Official NFL 2011-2012 Thread

AND I HATE TO BLAME THE REFS, BUT THE ROUGHING THE PASSER CALL REALLY MADE A 4 point DIFFERENCE.

of course the eagles had other mistakes, you cannot have that call in that situation.

youre right about asomugha, but my point is that he is great when he knows he has to lock up that one guy and nothing else. he is not a good zone player, at least not a above-average one.

the playoff chance is still there, but it really depends on how the giants play. they still have to win their games, but they are really in control. the fluke-win against the pats (a game that should have been 6-6 or so in reality) could very well be the difference at the end.

and the giants have the 49ers, eagles, saints and packers up next.

so maybe not everything is lost and this division could very well be won by a 10-6 or even 9-7 team. i really do not see the giants go more than 1-3 over that stretch. and the eagles wont get to 11 wins as well, its just too much to ask. forget the redskins and forget the cowboys.

The Bears.

Bears looked excellent last night with the exception of that one drive (or lack thereof) late 2nd quarter. The offense looked good, Cutler was reasonably well protected, and its FANTASTIC having Bennet back. The defense looked good too, aside from the fact that Peppers is CLEARLY injured.

Also the postgame interview made it sound like Cutler basically blew off Martz's called play on the Bennet TD, and ran his own play from the line. Maybe this will finally teach the Bears to allow Cutler to call audibles/manage the game himself.

Wild beat calgary 3 - 0 tonight bakstrom with 41 saves....5th win in a row....wild are on a tear 8 - 3 - 3....hoping this goes the whole season.

they are fast AND strong. tough combo even as an eagles supporter.

but be happy that peppers isnt already on IR. that looked awful at the first replay.

Yeah. Thats the second time hes done that this year too. Same thing happened against the Lions a few weeks ago. I think its insane that hes still getting the pressure and sacks he is despite the injury.

I really wish whoever created this named it something A LITTLE different, and not have the only difference be theres an F instead of an H...

I have had to check myself on occasion and make sure i'm in the right thread ha.

repeating is so tough, especially with this one-game playoff format

you know its so tough to win in december/january without a solid run game. and the D is not made for close games (evidenced by the saints and chargers), they are sort of like the colts D the last decade. come after the passer, because the other team is already down 2 TDs.

the saints didnt win the super bowl in the year brees was about to break marinos record, but they had a above-average run game to go with it the year after. the pats, colts and chargers had so great passing offenses the last years, but in december and january, this is not working.

and to me, the packers run game is worse than last year.

All they need is one team that manages to get pressure on Rodgers, and exploits their flawed defense and they are done. Wouldnt surprise me if they were a victim of an unexpected playoff upset. Then again, wouldnt surprise me if Rodgers just scored 40+pts a game all the way to the superbowl.

so they chose to give the chargers two TDs within 1 minute? get your head out of your ass. and the onside kick? NO ACCIDENT you are saying?

and a goal line stand to win the game? so they let them come all the way to the goal line just to stop them there?

i hate how everything the packers do is sooooo intentional. nobody talks about luck for them.

yes they play great football, no question, but they are not king midas.

its such a game of inches, its not even funny, and to say that all of that is "talent" is bullshit. you look at the eagles. idk how many games they lost through one fumble. small events turn games and you can not tell me that its all about pure class.

especially in the playoffs. the packers were BY FAR not the best team in the league coming into the playoffs. already forgot that? the giants were NOT the better team than the pats in 07. its just that this one game playoff format (which is great) is designed for upsets because of what one little swing can do. how does it say something about the packers talent when david akers misses FGs?

fans of the packers right now need to cool down a little, because even the vikings game should have been a loss. just take the panthers-packers game. BAD red zone offense from the panthers was the only thing that kept this thing from being a blowout (NOT good red zone defense, there is a difference), the panthers struggle there everyday.

NOT TO CONFUSE ANYTHING: THE PACKERS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE. BUT THEY DO NOT KEEP GAMES CLOSE "ON PURPOSE" AND THEY DO NOT GO 3 & OUT THREE TIMES IN THE 4TH QUARTER AGAINST THE CHARGERS "ON PURPOSE".

i know, the only thing that counts is W or L. but good teams are always overhyped and bad teams are always thrown under the bus when even the rams can beat the saints.

by intentionally i mean the whole "chew up the clock, prevent thing". the commentators complimented them 100 times throughout the fourth quarter for how they made the chargers complete underneath passes and held them to time costly drives. yeah, pretty much, two TD drives that took like 4 minutes altogether is really killing the clock.

the pats do the same, although they dont buckle down in the redzone as much, they are still way better. they are dead last in yds but only give 0.6 more points up per game than the packers. but the pats are an "awful" defense and the pack is awesome

this is gonna be awful. dielman, mcneill and now vasquez out. even with the great TD right now... tough game.

come on chargers. lets go, dont pull a colts just because some players are injured

gilchrist, spikes on D out

then in effect only two starters left on oline, and clary is probably the worst of the five anyways. game took a serious hit when mcneill went out, after that, we never recovered.

in the afc west, youre never out of the mix until you have 9 losses, so its still a long season. the second half adjustments were great, but the hole was just too deep.

i have never seen a QB play that great with that pressure. i bet he was touched on 95% of the passes, knocked down on at least the half and sacked 5-6 times. thats just too bad to win.

fun game though and thats the most important thing. all of the teams i have the slightest sympathy for are going through a funk/out of the race, so yeah, fuck this year (chargers, pats, eagles, panthers)

and VJAX? what WAS THAT? seriously?

AND EXTREMELY FAIR PLAY BY THE CHARGERS. AFTER THE INJURY TIMEOUT, THEY TOOK THEIR LAST REMAINING TIMEOUT FOR LITERALLY NO REASON THAN FAIRNESS. GREAT.

Could the Raiders possibly have any more injuries? But that doesn't matter when Palmer and Bush go off and put the Chargers down.Try and argue that Palmer is washed up or not the same quarterback he was now. Who said the Chargers were gonna win the West? Phillip Rivers is the most overrated quarterback in the league. He faces any sort of pass rush and he throws the ball away or throws a horrible pass.

Raiders had two active corners, the starting safety injured, starting left end on IR, McClain and Seymour are on bad ankles, McFadden is out, Ford went down, Janikowski has a bad hammy, and Satele the center was out.

Even before the three injuries to the chargers line the Raiders were killing the Chargers O line.

Rivers was throwing the ball at the ground half the time with any pressure

And the timeout. How the fuck is that fair play? Why would they possibly call that timeout out of fair play? They took a move from the Hoody's playbook. They called the timeout after the injury timeout before the clock started for the extra rest on defense

any sort of pass rush? he couldnt get time for a 10 yd dig all day with only 4 man pressure to top it off.

to say rivers lost this game is not very accurate.

granted sandy eggo's O-line was shitting the bed for large parts of the game...

but agreed! so bummed to see jacoby go down, and having mcfadden gone is shitty. however, michael bush went the fuck off tonight, and palmer was hitting d moore deep all game. it's sick to see that he still has it.

i'm fuckin stoked to see how well the raiders do with the combo attack of mcfadden/bush/jones/reece and the improved carson palmer passing.

I didn't say Rivers lost the game. I said he is overrated and was missing swing passes and check downs because he was jumpy as shit. The Chargers lost the game as a team but Rivers didn't help

its the NFL man, the Chiefs who arent even a great team to begin with lost a probowl running back, a probowl safety and their starting TE before week 2 was over and they're still neck and neck with the amazing Raiders.

Rivers is going thru a season long metdown and they're still in it. The Broncos are starting a TE at QB and are still in it, the divison sucks.

if i remember correctly, it was a first down play by the raiders with around 3 mins left. now the injury-timeout.

so in no way would you call that timeout for "rest on defense".

i actually wasnt aware of the timing rules in this particular situation. sorry for that. still "resting the defense" is bullshit.

i operate the game clock from time to time when the 1s play in the austrian football league and they have the NCAA rules, and there, you actually gain 15 seconds from an injury timeout.

Resting the defense/stopping the clock. Did you not know that the clock restarts after the ref sets the ball? Hoody did the same thing. Wait until after the injury timeout, before the clock starts again, and call your timeout. That way the clock stops and you get the extra rest.

i now get your point. but when the whistle is blown, the play clock is at 25, or? so technically, faking an injury to a substitutable player could save you 15 seconds per snap down at the end.

Who cares how bad it is... whoever wins it is still going to the playoffs, and has a chance (and don't tell me no team out of the AFC west has a chance in the playoffs... shit happens.

Is it bad that, as a Ravens fan, I'm more nervous for this game today against Seattle than I was about the game last week against the Steelers?

Who's Chad Johnson? Its all about Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson (2 best receivers in the league ATM)

Chad was good until he changed his name

so thats it for the eagles.

so many missed plays in this game, especially on offense. most games were lost because someone fucked up.

they need to rebuild a little. o-line (really peters is awesome, but the other 4 are bad/mediocre) needs a little rebuilding, a taller receiver, someone to spell mccoy and they need one or two better linebackers. that D looked good in phases and with a whole offseason, they will be better next year. really, why wasnt asomugha on fitzgerald on that long catch before the TD? and hanson looked better than DRC, he is not a slot defender.

vick still has "it". he can rush for 50 yds any day and he got way better with audibling and all that stuff, so i am excited for next year. this year was just fucked when brown and maclin fumbled the 49ers game away, tipped picks and avant gift-wrapped the bills their win, they lost in the most unmotivated manner to the falcons and now the cards on that second-to-last drive make two completions on tipped passes. really, you cannot win like that. and with the talent they have, it shouldnt come down to these plays.

bad that the season is already over, but what the heck? for 31 teams, it ends too early, so it might as well end now.

so chargers and pats are my last straws.

had 2 free tickets and free parking pass to the Chiefs game today, thank god I didn't go hahaha.

also, that first slate of games fucking SUUUUUCKED

this is a must watch, his commentary is hilarious, 'I wanna be in beast mode, I wanna be in beast mode'. 'uh-oh, could be trouble' (about 5x). 'beast mode, thats what it truely is...'

yea stafford deserved worse, it doesnt matter if you're the qb, you're still a football player and if you grab another football player by the face mask he's gonna come at you

Hes lucky he didnt stand all the way up or he woulda gotten hit way harder. He was too low to get hit at full strength. Moore kinda went over him.
