Official Holiday Valley / Kissing Bridge Thread

Calm down. Did you read their Facebook update? I'm assuming you did, but click here if you didn't:

There wasn't enough snow to set stuff up properly.

It was NOVEMBER. Cut 'em some slack. Holiday Valley didn't even open till about mid December last year. And dude, Whiteface has one of the best park crews in the east in my opinion, and they were just really starting to get features up this weekend. They had like one box and one rail last weekend. And mind you that's a way bigger mountain, in a much colder area.

Anyway, in regards to HV's vibe, i've never seen a problem with it, and I'm impressed with what they do with the park for such a small mountain.

I've gotten bad attitude so many times I can't count. This ranges from parking lot guys, food service, lifties, park crew many times, and even multiple managers regarding an overcharge they got me for. It went all the up to the third highest manager over like $30. It doesn't help the parks locations are horrible. I've been saying for years morning star area should be the park lift. Never knew it was at one point. If you've never been to peek you can't compare the vibes. So much more chill and less serious at peek. Valley everyone thinks they're on some pro shit. At least the main crew.

Yeah, they had a separate park set up on snoozer last year, but it's not as long of a run and they can't fit as much in. But I'd be fine with it moving most other places than Foxfire. The Rail Park is alright though if you just skate to the features when hiking.

I can agree with you on that one. Not so much with the lifties but with some of the ski instructors. There are some instructors who have this sense of entitlement. They act as their shit doesn't stink, but that is just a small portion of the instructors that work at HV. And from previous experience, most of the instructors are great people. The instructors that are asses and just asses and you have to deal with it. But hey, no matter where you go you will always run it to people like that, and you just got to ignore those kind of people.

I haven't skied at HV in almost a year so I feel some what disconnected to the scene. But in the less congested areas, I felt a better vibe. That may be me, because I don't like to feel crowded when I ski but I don't know.

But at the end of the day HV is running a business and they want to make money.

And as I read this over for the sixth time, I don't really know where I'm going with this and I don't think I answered your question either. I think I just added my two cents in. But I still do agree with your statement but not for every employee.

Oh yeah no doubt I have met many cool ass people at valley and working at valley. It's just at peek I have never had any type of run-in or ego maniacs.

The fact that HV doesn't even allow inverts should tell you that the park scene/crew is a fucking joke. Not to mention their persistence on putting the park on foxfire after numerous people suggest moving it to a run with a reasonable slope.(moonshadow) I came up for the Traveling Circus tour last year and i could have made a better set up. It was pathetic. However, I am excited to ski PknPk when I come home!

the no inverts thing is just for insurance purposes. Its odd, but i won't lock them for it. Not to mention, no one is going to stop you.

I showed up that traveling circus day, it was laughable that they didn't set up the rails until the morning of (which was around 10/11 pm if i remember correct). sorry to be so negative, but thats pretty sad. Im not expecting big things from the valley, but some really simple fixes would go a very long way

Yeah I mean it doesn't take too much to make a mediocre park into something great. Look at 7 springs. Similar elevation. Completely different product. It starts from the top though. HV is heavy family orientated and forever will be unless management changes

I feel as in Holiday Valley isn't really too concerned with the park/freestyle scene. They are really concerned with just plain old skiing and lodge stuff. People from all over come to ski at HV. They get a lot of money out of the people that travel long distances because HV is pretty good at accommodating their needs. Where as with people like us who, most of the time try to ski for as cheap as possible. So HV would rather tend the needs of not us but the people that are going to spend the most money.

And I not trying to sort people in any sort of category or say that everyone is the same. All I'm saying is that skiers like us are out numbered by the type of skiers that HV likes to accommodate. HV believes they can get more money out of those kind of people.

This time around I do actually feel like this is true, and I guess that is how it is until someone comes around that can change. But I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

What I remember with snoozer was that if you hit the last feature you would have to skate your ass through the flats on the way back to the lift...and if it was a slushtacular spring day you would end up walking.

Morning star though, hell yeah

haha thanks for refreshing my memory about that... i was 11,12,and 13 when i skid the snoozer park (now 22). Maybe its just because it was so long ago, but the jumps were a decent size tho right? and usually a triple set

Hell yeah! Me and my buds are real cool and friendly. We may look like thugs but all it takes is a few words and we'll all be shredding and lapping together!

Sounds sick man! I'm in the park a decent amount, not really the greatest park skier though. But it would be dope to meet you and your bros!

To add to the topic of HV's parks, I feel like they should put way more effort into snoozer and add a tow rope or something in it to not make sunrise congested from all the park people. Even a tow bar in the Mardi Gras park wouldn't be a bad call. I would love rails and bigger kickers in Moon shadow as well, those slight hills are a waste of a good park.

Can any locals confirm the conditions,as far as amount of snow,at HV? Willing to make the 2+ hour drive up tomorrow if its as good it looks. plus I hear they're expecting more as well?!?

Kissing bridge getting over three feet?? With finals and heading home I wont be able to hit any of that, but damn.

Holiday valley has gotten 12+ inches since tuesday, as well as what ever snow they have been making. This weekend should be sick! and Nick, bummer man I'm only there on weekends

Anyone know when kb is going to put in more features or add a jump? The park is turning to Crap. 2 of the 3 features they had today were pretty much unhitable after like 6 because they were so sticky.

Why are you in the park right now? God has given you soooo much pow!! Go enjoy some of that, the park will be there, powder like this in ny is a gift.

Ye man, they have about 8 features in foxfire! not too bad at all. and @Bsully, it fucking poured the whole time, they lost a ton of snow.

will be down january 4-6 with about 10 guys for my 21st, hit me up on here if you want to shred or party with us

They set up some stuff on foxfire. But got damn. The park crew sets up the stupidest shit. I saw them setting up this donkey dick at the top of foxfire on like a knuckle of a jump, not sure what you'd call it. Except they put a sort of spike in the snow at the end of the rail. Kind of so that it goes up at the same point as the donk. But there's absolutely no purpose for it.

I guess spike probably gives a different image than what I'm trying to describe. But its hard to describe because it's a ridiculous addition to the park that doesn't have a name because no one else uses it.

Valley really like to screw up the simplest features. Anyways they pulled all features off foxfire and are rebuilding Thursday

Holy shit. I went to Holiday Valley yesterday and that has to be the worst park I have ever skied. Granted it is still December and it rained the other week, but wow it was bad. Rail features were just stupid, jump was terrible(and they closed it after some joey decided to swan dive onto the knuckle), and the lips onto rails were laughable. After this disappointing experience I decided to stop at peek n' peak on my way home.... They have 4 jumps and 9 rail features up in the 3 park.(bottom 2 jumps are $$$) Going back up there tomorrow.

Peeks set up right now is so sick. Went to valley tonight and it sucked ass compared to peek. The biggest jump at peek was decent. 25-30 if you sent it. I was laying out backies but 7s would be doable
