Well, the season hasn't even ended for some lucky few out in CO and UT, but DPS has already teased us with a picture of a new pair of skis. Looks VERY different than what they normally produce.

I didn't see anything like that at SIA, so I'm pretty sure it's not being sold next year.

As of right now (May 19, 2016), most brands should have fairly dialed products for 17/18.

Here's generally why: if a brand wants to launch a new product at SIA/ISPO 2017 for fall 2017 delivery, they have to have final samples done in December 2016/January 2017. That means all performance testing, durability testing, production line, etc done for at least one size by December 2016. That means early samples (protos with proper colors & graphics) should be done by about now. First raw/skiable prototypes should be skied during winter 2016. First product ideas summer of 2015. Timelines for specific products will for sure vary, meaning skis (especially for smaller companies) don't take nearly as long as boots or bindings for example.

Long story short, when you see a hardgood product at SIA/ISPO, it was first thought about and conceptualized about 1.5-2 years before that, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer.

This makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the input!

It's nearly December, any news? Salomon NFX has been the only ski I've seen from 2018. Same kind of graphics as this year, just black.

Most brands have there product previews in whistler this week. Im actually off to the K2 factory on Sunday for product meetings regarding all the new gear for next season and should be on the new skis and boots by next week. Still does seem kind of crazy that we are already dealing with next season even though the current season only started a week ago.

Brody Leven's Instagram story today had some new Salomon Skis.

Had "S-Lab" on them, so I'm guessing they'll be for the ultralight skimo market.

4FRNT is bringing back the MSP for their 15 year anniversary..

Supposed to be like 99mm waist, >20m radius.

I wonder if it must be all new MTN Lab stuff. The QST line is a full carryover for next year (not even graphic changes). Rocker2 100 is gone :(

Does not surprise me. Rossignol proved it's possible to carry over graphics for two and even three seasons. And I'm certain the peeps at Salomon had a design brief that basically called for a Soul7 with a Salomon badge on it.

Yeah, its def becoming a trend these days to do full carry overs. its better for the industry I think, maybe not quite as good for the consumer. It means ski shops don't have to cut into their margins as much with blow out discounts. If it doesn't sell, they can roll it into next seasons inventory. This cuts down on shipping (smaller orders the next year, possibly; better for enviro a little...), it keeps brick and mortar stores relevant and means that people that buy this year won't be on 'dated' product come next year..

The brands that are doing this (so far) have been:

Rossi

K2

Salomon

Volkl (mainly VWerks line)

Wait, do people actually worry about this? Skiers with beat up gear and duct tape on their gloves are usually core as fuck.

Yes but that is a small percentage of the market. And it might not be as important as the other sides of this trend for manufacturers to carry over ski, but it doesn't hurt

ZeroG 115?

Good call, and tecnica...

Tecnica re-did their entire boot line this year with the Cochise and ZeroG.

It's stupid IMO to launch new boots every year. Not to mention costly.

yeah this years stuff looks great. and I agree, very expensive to launch new product...

Yeah, as far as I know Tecnica/Blizzard will continue with heavier revamps of 'families' from their line up every few seasons rather than tweaks every year. E.G. carving line up completely revamped this year with the bullrider freeride skis carried over and so on.

Seems like a smarter way of managing inventory and making more substantive changes as technologies change rather than just smaller tweaks every season.

finally some nice news! Maybe I ll have saved enough for it till next winter. Sounds really promising and 10 times better than the king pin.

How much should they be? How are they so much better than king pins? What dins are available?

They look nice for sureseys. I want a touring ski next year to get pitted in the BC.

Not sold on the fact it is a lot of plastic...

but glad to see there are more options like that.

As much as an established customer base Smith has, they need to release a super easy lens change option quick or they're going to fall behind. I've already seen it in the shop I work at, why get an I/O for 180 when a Dragon NFX2 is the same price but you get so much more?

return of the arg?

Looks like it, and if it is, I might actually pick it up. I have been wanting a reverse sidecut ski for some time now. An updated CRJ would be ideal.

This graphics are so fresh as well.

What am I missing here? CRJs weren't reverse sidecut were they

Not full on, but they had that shape. It was kind of like taper/sidecut, so they were amazing in pow, but could handle some harder snow as well.

hmm okay i must have them mistaken in my mind for an entirely different ski, maybe the s3... in my mind i was thinking of a sorta symmetrical, hooky sky. hm

13766828:.[sanhedrin said:

In his post he answers someone's question about the shape calling it a revival of the ARG but they are trying to find a way to make it manageable on hardpack on your way back from stashes. I thought that what was the Bubba was supposed to be but it would appear that the Bubba must not have sold as well as they were hoping. Hence the redesign.

If it is an improvement of the old ARG I would love to have one in my quiver for the best of days.
