OFFICIAL Election Thread

In all seriousness, 24/7 news networks are the worst shit to ever come along for this country. Theres never enough news (except in elections or crises) and they revert to mindless speculation that nobody in their right minds would ever consider. They create issues, not report them.

And dont get me started on "iReport". Come on.

Each of the states in the US have their own constitutions that were not written 200 years ago and that are much easier to amend. This is an issue that should be left up to the states and not the federal government.

And you cannot deny the rest of what my post said.

I didn't. I just don't care that it was "teh blacks" who voted yes. You're really preoccupied with race... it's like you're a South American Lou Dobbs.

obama needs to stick to when he said....."i’m a democrat. I’m considered a progressive democrat. but if a republican or a conservative or a libertarian or a free-marketer has a

better idea, i am happy to steal ideas from anybody and in that sense i’m agnostic." because following this would really help him unite and lead country.

obama needs to focus on uniting america on common ground over

division on culture war issues (and neutralize them). he needs to stress that these issues are basically distractions from the long-term challenges america has been avoiding for the

past twenty years. he needs to bring a halt to our focus on differences that divide us, and bring focus on beliefs that unite us as americans.

and remember, if you pass someone on the street today, there's only a 53% chance that they voted for obama. but i would bet that there's more mccain voters "okay" that obama won, than there would be obama voters "okay" that mccain had won.

and also remember, obama is the child of a dark-skinned man born in kenya and a light-skinned woman born in kansas.....he's not black. stop all this race bullshit that denies his maternal chromosomes. if he was born in america, then he's an american. its time for america to finally become colorblind.

Id just like to congratulate and say thanks to the people that worked in both campaigns. They all worked really hard.. But im really pissed today cause my sister worked for the McCain campaign in Colorado but also helped out other candidates like Schaffer and Musgrave, and she came home crying cause a bucnh of Obama supporters laughed at her all day...Come on people McCain and Bush had class act speeches and I think the GOP needs some respect from the left..

Now he will get assasinated or there will be several attempts, and America will look more racist than ever before after the 60's. Hate to say it but America is definetly not colorblind.

i don't think, for bush at least, that giving one speech atones for the 8 years of shit the dems put up with

The economy that doesn't all fall on Bush i do seem to recall that the congress is controlled by who..... the Dems and they make about half of the decisions regarding the economy

The rest of the world has always hated us sorry but its true.

the only reason we are where we are today is because of Bush's tax cuts.... so he made a positive change.

world hate, related to the war.

we disagree on Guantanamo. but thats not the point of this thread.

the rest of the world loved us during clinton. alot more than now

and it was started by the democratic congress

but bush actually took steps to PREVENT regulation that could have prevented the wall street implosion. so it falls on him too

Hold on you just did not make sense...........If he took steps to deregulate (which is the right way to go most of the time) then congress could veto it so again not all bush's fault

well the bastards in al qaeda hated us enough bomb us, and start the wheels turning on another attack.

this was a failure of government, NOT capitalism. (according to the french president, but hey, anyone can be right ;)

no, i cant find the article but i wanna say it was new york. someones legislature tried to prevent the predatory lending that was going on. bush whipped out some ridiculous law and blocked them from doing it. therefore encouraging the crumble

the Bush administration employed a little-used 1863 law to annul

all state antipredatory-lending laws and, if that wasn't enough, to block states from enforcing their own consumer protection laws in suits against national banks. Thus, when Spitzer tried to open an investigation into discriminatory mortgage lending in New York, the administration actually filed a federal lawsuit to block it. These interventions were so extreme and so unprecedented that the attorneys general and the banking superintendents of all fifty states came together to oppose the rulings unanimously. But to no avail.

i have no way to post the article because its a pda on my computer. but there you go

Bush can't just "whip out" a law. Did you ever take a civics class? And your story sounds shaky by the way ah somones legislature and an article story's shaky man

know wahts scary?
the fact that obama said this term is about "service and sacrifice" to the government
and even more so "the country is not a collection of individuals"

are you guys honestly not worried?

by besides the 'war' do you mean the on in Iraq or the one in Afghanistan?

Does that mean we can't count that he still hasn't gotten Osama Bin Laden? Does that mean Gitmo is off limits? What about torture, is that still under the context of the war?

uhm, what about that storm in Louisiana, i think that was a bit of a dropped ball, and it doesn't have anything to do with the war... ok so thats ONE, hmm

Can we count patriot act, i mean that one sorta is worth more than one, it's got everything from getting rid of that pesky concept of Habeas Corpus, and then there was the telecom thing where we were spying on americans, but i supose that might be part of the war.

What about no child left behind, that was really shitty, bad policy may not really be 'screwing up' but i'll throw it up htere.

What about walter reed hospital, thats sorta like taking care of veterans after the war?

OH i got another one, there was that scandle with the whole US attorneys being fired, but that kinda was Karl Rove more so than Bush, er what do we do with this one?

Scooter Libby-- purgery?

Not dealing with Iran or South Korea at all, atleast not until after they built up more weapons, tested a few rockets, or built a bit more uranium enricnment labs.

How about Halliburton, or Blackwater, i know you said the war was off limits, but come on KBR cost-plus totally fucked us over.

What about Jack Abermof, Tom Delay, Mark Folley, i'm sure there are others i'm forgetting now

And wasn't there something about him Stacking supreeme court Justices? Alberto Gonzalas bullshit?

Karl Rove has already been mentioned in part with the firng of the Atourney Generals, but I'd like to say him again just in general.

The overal lack of suport in the scientific community -- stemcell, aids, global warming

When he finaly did get around to telling us about the timing of firing Rumsfeild

Pissing off the russians with the Missile deffense shield program

Constitutional Amendment against gay mariage

and on top of all this, he is the president who has taken the MOST vacation time, 879 days down on the ranch - which, if you're into arithmetic, works out to around 30 percent of eight years.

Hmmm i really don't know if i can think of any thing that might have gone wrong over the last 8 years...

i'll tell you the highlight though, was probably when Cheney shot a guy in the face, and the guy appologized to Dick. Ha, good times.

yes, clearly im terrified. now that obama is president im going to lose my individuality.... no

fuck were fucked unless he gets assasinated cuz in my mind the best candidate for president is now the new VP(biden) but the dems didnt think he could get more votes than mccain so they had to put up a woman or a black guy for the shock factor then hope they win. but honestly im more happy with obama then i would have been with hillay we woud have really been fucked then well were still fucked. also the real questionn is will barrack even be president before an attempt on his life is tried

you know, i think it was more along the lines that most of the dems didn't agree with you and they legitimately thought Obama was the better candidate in general.

now the real question is, why do you want anyone assassinated, even before they've done anything in office? Maybe you should give other people's opinions a shot, it might not be half bad.

Not exactly, I'm just refuting bullshit arguments blaming "bible-thumping white conservatives" for the fact that 8 passed. I'm reiterating with some facts so those people that are so quick to bash white "conservafags" (as written in the other thread) for Prop 8 passing finally shut the hell up.

Who the hell are you quoting? It certainly isn't me. I would say that the anti-gay alliance is one comprised not only of bible thumping religious zealots, but also those of below average intelligence, who are always prone to intolerance, and social conservatives who fear what they don't understand. Black voters can fall into any or all three categories, as can white voters.

... I'm about halfway being a prick for no reason with the above statement, and halfway serious... I mean, there are all kinds of groups who hold the anti-gay "perspective" (read: bigotry), but if you think gay people should be tolerated, but not accepted, that it's an immoral lifestyle, or any of the other catchphrases that have been tossed around for so many years, you're intolerant (to use "tolerate" in this context is an equivocation) and, playing the odds, probably pretty stupid.

Question for ya guys.
Since now officially we have the first african family up in the white house, how would you guys feel about maybe a Hispanic president and his family in there? An Asian family? How about a middle Eastern president? Thoughts?

Well his wife is going to be the First African-American First Lady of the United States.
Either way he isnt white and its definitely going to open a push for different different races to run for president.

You mean like really REALLY crazy races?

Seriously, why does it matter? I mean, there's no question that it unfortunately does to many people, but it certainly shouldn't.

Dude hop off your jumping to conclusions mat. I never said that it did matter, i was just wondering how some people felt bout that.
