After getting a pour over set up I realized it blows french press coffee out of the water.

13490804:Aaaron. said:it takes a long time to go through that much coffee
13490826:OregonDead said:I guess it just depends on how many bags you buy. I go through a 3lb bag in just a couple weeks. The limit you to just 3 bags but that is per visit so I'll probably buy 3 bags the first day of the sale and then 3 more when the sale ends October 5th.

13491436:OregonDead said:That sounds delicious. I don't have time for that though. Also I'm a coffee addict so I have to make some compromises to keep down the cost. Right now I'm drinking cold french press coffee that I brewed 6 hours ago.

My palate is a lot better so I can taste things other than the overwhelming bitter flavor.
I've also made a couple cold press coffee beers that I have really enjoyed. The best one I have made was indonesian coffee with oak in an ESB. yummy.
I finally bit the bullet and bought a grinder and a press. We've got a great coffee roaster in town called Duluth Coffee Company. I'm digging some of the Indonesian and African coffees they roast. nice and fruity.
I'm only doing cold press for now. I'm not a big hot drink kind of guy. Should be an interesting hobby for me to go along with the brewing.

That 4+ hour waiting time before realising you fucked up the grind is nice.
13499499:SupremeDeity said:Can anyone recommend me some good coffee beans I can get online? I have a mini French press in my dorm room that needs to see more use, and I don't really want to invest in a grinder. Or would a pour over setup be better?

Any tips or tricks you've found to be useful in brewing a good cup with french presses??

Is anyone using a Breville smart pro or dose control? I'm mainly brewing espresso, some press. Both are on sale for 30% off on Amazon. Seems like the same burr system, so I'm not sure if the price/features is worth it for the Pro?

Unfortunately, I'm very limited as far as space goes due to the fact that I'm in a dorm, but once I move off campus next year I'll have a lot more space to upgrade. Any suggestions on affordable espresso machines? I have a hario grinder that I'm content with for the time being.
13543790:OregonDead said:Do you like French Press? A Bodum is pretty inexpensive and IMO it brews a pretty great cup of the San Francisco Bay Rogers Family Organic Rain Forest coffee. I actually prefer french press to espresso. If you go the french press route a dedicated hot water kettle is nice to have too but not necessary.

8 years ago it would have gotten you a new one but the hype is real.
Also set money aside for a proper grinder.

The water is at 200 degrees, and the grind was somewhere between medium to fine, never asked. But after tasting that coffee I've been looking into getting a Chemex, an electronic kettle so I can get to 200 degrees every time, and a grinder that doesn't suck dick.
13622887:SupremeDeity said:I just started roasting my own coffee, which was the best decision ever. I roast enough for the week on Sunday, and the coffee it makes is some of the best I've ever had. Even using the shitty water in my dorm and $25 hand grinder, it's terrific. Anyone else do this?

Just thought i'd share that, try it.
13682375:Wood_Wizard said:That's a fucking gnarly grinder. Guy was saying it has like 1700rpm at 60 Hz which absolutely fucked for a coffee grinder.
I picked up a Yama vacpot the other day. Mostly to show how sophisticated I am as well as to impress the Danish girls.
