So... upgrading from the Rancilio to the Bezzera has been amazing. The HX system makes things so much easier and consistent than life with the Silvia.

That said, time for another upgrade. I entered a giveaway earlier this month and ended up winning, so I'm going to be getting a Profitec Pro 500 espresso machine, a Mazzer Mini E Type A grinder, a bunch of accessories, cups and some beans. Needless to say, I'm beyond stoked. Also, means I'm going to gift my current set-up to my best friend and his wife (who are huge coffee geeks as well, but don't currently have an espresso set-up).

Christmas for everyone! Ha ha

haha fucking hell nice work dude! the mazzer is bomber too! literally unbreakable! i looked into getting one before going with the E65

merry chrismas indeed

ps nice extraction in the later post ;)

Anybody ever tried Bulletproof coffee?

You talking their beans or the recipe? I haven't tried either but honestly the recipe probably tastes good considering you are loading coffee with fat and drinking it.

That being said don't be a sheep and buy into the whole nutritious breakfast replacement they market it as because really it's just a bunch of fat. You're much better off drinking a cup of black coffee with a veggie omelette and some toast.

Yea I was mostly concerned about the beans. I've tried the butter in coffee and that's pretty good but then he goes and adds this oil to the coffee and I have no idea wtf that's about. I was just curious as to the quality of the roast over other brands. Speaking of which if anybody has any brand recommendations I'm all ears.

I just always try to find a local roaster and either try some of their brews or just grab a bag and go for it. Where do you live? It seems like most areas these days have a few unique roasters that are pretty quality.

Maine. We do have a few local shops so I'll do some searching.

You press for 30 seconds? Shit. At that point I want my damn coffee and just press the shit out of it.

I do upside down

1 grinder full of beans (Hario mini almost full)

20 second bloom

Shake/stir

1.75 minute brew

Quick press

Water 45 seconds post boil

my press has back-pressure and I get fucking mad sometimes.

other than that, that's literally how I make coffee except it's a braun grinder lol

Got an Aeropress and some Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso beans for Christmas. Intelligentsia is super hard to find up here in Canada, so I'm pretty darn stoked. It's been a pretty ridiculous christmas (coffee wise) this year and I couldn't be happier!

New set-up ready for action.

Profitec Pro 500

Mazzer Mini E - Type A

Nice.

Still using the Rocket evo with the Mine E here, such a solid setup.

Yes, it was cold by the time I finished setting up and taking the shot.

Got a new grinder for Christmas to round out the "I'm really poor" setup, AKA Hario Skerton and Aeropress. Thankfully one of my friends works at a really good roaster here in Seattle, so I get the hook up.

I still use a Hario Mini for pour-over and aero press. My Mazzer would work fine, but it's too much work to dial in espresso setting to also play with pour-over as well.

well i guess im poor too. i'm on that same setup

I might be slow on this but for anyone with a Hario Mini or I guess the Skerton would work too, use a drill to make grinding faster. I just realized this over the holiday while talking to my sisters boyfriend who hates his Mini because it's a pain in the ass to grind enough for his French press.

If anyone goes to Tempe, AZ or literally just wants some of the best coffee ever (and I have had the coffee in Seattle and Europe) go to Infusion Coffee. Their owner is known worldwide (Patrick O'Malley) in the coffee industry and has the highest quality baristas in the business. He is a coffee and tea sommelier SCAE Authorized Trainer and diploma holder, and Roast Master. He also created the IBCA to educate people that wanna know more about the coffee they drink and educate baristas to make actually good coffee. They are extremely ethical as well.

I've had a keggerator for beer

Thats tight I was thinking about installing something actually in the counter of course it would be a lot smaller than a full keg, but I could do a 3 row.

My only advice would be to buy nice parts, new. A janky setup is the biggest pain in the ass. Air getting into the lines = foamy pours = ripping your hair out.

I can imagine that coffee would be way easier than beer though.

Lol I am playing it out in my head before I look into how much work it would be, but like I said a 3+ row would be cool, I could have cold brew, beer and kombucha.

That would be cool.

In my far far away dream home I'd love to have a multi-tap setup. I love the bar setups that have taps run through old pipes and stuff rather than boring silver towers.

Or you can go ghetto and turn a chest freezers into a keezer

Yeah it would be a pleaser in a house for sure.

ran out of coffee and I'm sad about it so I'm bumping this thread

Oh no! My biggest fear and that's why I'm going to brave Costco after work to pick up another 6lbs of that Roger's Family Organic coffee.

Just bought a cup of black coffee from Starbucks and it's ass, definitely need to go pick some up tomorrow. I spend way too much at my local roaster but that shit is SO GOOD so it's worth it. The way I talk about coffee makes me feel like a crack addict but it's just coffee so..

Yeah, only good thing about Starbucks is the caffeine content. I hate having to buy a cup but end up doing it out of convenience all the time. The local high school has a stand on the campus where I work and they have beans donated from a good local roaster and only charge a buck. Only open for a couple hours a day though so mostly end up having to pay twice as much for crap.

I haven't read through all fourteen pages of this thread but are any of you folks roasting your own beans?

I purchased a little diy roaster off craigslist for $100, it looks like a toaster oven but has a basket installed on a rotisserie thing. I'm trying to dial in temperature and timing. First go, actual fire, second go I yanked them out to early I think (nervous after the fire) and it brewed up pretty well except there's a very heavy earthy aftertaste, like dirt bite heavy. I'll probably fire it up again this weekend.

Yeah nice.

Never roasted my own beans. I go to the local coffee shop and the bloke there sources different beans from around the planet and gets different ones in every month. He makes me a coffee, if I like it then i'll buy a months worth and so on.

It's not too hard to find quality beans, it maybe outside of many metropolitan areas, but finding a decent coffee shop/cafe can be, tons of starbucks and peets with their burnt up crap.

I usually get my beans at costco, Rogers Family/San Francisco Bay Coffee Cmpany mentioned previously in the thread, because the value cannot be beat and we drink a fair bit of coffee.

I got hooked up with 4kg of green beans from a friend whose family has a coffee plantation in Guatemala. I've been interested in diy roasting for a while but you usually have to either spend a lot of money or convert a popcorn popper yourself.

I'll update my progress after my next roasting session. Pretty fun so far.

This would be cool but pretty expensive. You'd need a dual regulator for the beer and kombucha and then a dedicated line for nitro.

Oh for sure would only go in one or two of my million dollar mansions. For real tho never going to happen I still with the cases and cans chilling in the snow.

you can buy a dedicated standalone keggerator that fits three tanks for about $1500- one tank for coffee, one for kombucha- although kombucha on draft is a huge pain in the ass.

Costa Rica baby. They are recognized as having some of the best if not the best coffee in the world. I'm not talking that blend shit with a bunch of different beans in a pack bought at the grocery store. I'm talking buying straight from the farm. Shits good.

Do you roast it yourself? I need to get back to playing with the roaster and am curious about other's experiences.

at the moment I've drawn the line at roasting my own beans. there's loads of good shops/roaster near me so i leave it up to them. i try and mix it up get a different bean every month used to be every week but the time you've dialed in the grind and extraction time i would of wasted a fair big of coffee and not had much time to enjoy it.

No that's too much work. But I did tour a coffee plantation down there and they had the option of buying whole roasted beans or just dried ones.

I definitely recommend grinding your own beans. Or see them ground in front of you. Otherwise no telling how long ago they were ground.

need a good grinder. what should I get. potentially get manual if anyone has any good recs. I'd spring for a corded model if I though it would last though. just for french press coffee brewing
