And that's the end of that rather uninteresting season. On to the fall where things will be great. I'm predicting Edmonton might do well if they make the right trades for defence. Toronto might also surprise.

Discuss.

Go Sens.

Hahahahaha. This prediction never gets old

I think I've said this in every one of these threads for the past few years. I'm going to say the main reason it's not happening is shit management that doesn't do the big trades they need

Is that actually the name of the arena??? Hahahaha that's awesome if it is

Its the little caesars arena but the internet has been coming up with some gr8 alternatives though.

GO PENS! Sean's all butthurt on fb calling me bandwagon, but i'm pretty sure i've posted the same damn go pens shit in every nhl thread here since I've been a member.

Then don't act like some typical bandwagon fan and go to Facebook to razz somebody, duh.

Who wants Datsyuck? he's either gonna play in the KHL or sign some sort of 1/2-year deal elsewhere.

1-2 deal, not a half one lol

hes old as shit so idk if hes worth a whole lot either.

Go Pens! Back to back

YEAAAA!!!!! We have such a solid team now, so many incredible players. If we can keep playing like we did this year, we have a very good chance.

I think they're only going to get better for the next few years. The young guns like Sheary are stepping up and contributing. It's nice to see Sid and Geno surrounded by help. That's what the difference was this year. They're usually expected to do everything themselves. Jim Rutherford made all the right moves acquiring the players he did. Hagelin for Perron and Daley for Scuderi was a steal.

if by better you mean worse, then sure.

They're currently way over the cap space and up and coming player who know they can make money definitely aren't going to stick around.

Then all the 3-5 million dollar players like Hagelin and Kunitz and Hornqvist are definitely not all going to be around very long. Going to have to clean up space soon. Either that or get rid of a big name like Malkin or Kessel. Kessel is a good bet.

I can see them letting Kunitz and fleury walk. Apparently fleury's agent is pissed about his playoff playing time. I don't think they'll sign Bennett or Schultz back either. I can't see them letting go of Geno or Hagelin. I just looked how much Kessel gets paid. Didn't realize he makes that much a year.

Are you fucking kidding me. Apparently Las Vegas has just officially been picked for the next expansion. Fucking Las Vegas beats out Quebec, a city with a FAR larger fan base and brand new arena. Not to mention any other city that would be a way better choice, like Portland or Hamilton or Seattle.

Just angers me that they choose yet another soon to be failed southern franchise over the most blaringly obvious choice. I get that Bettman hates Canada, but what a fucking turd.

I thought Seattle was the next city in line to get an expansion?

This is fucked? Why on earth would Las Vegas get an NHL team?

Las Vegas is Sin City, it's an entertainment tourist hub. The city itself has no pride or culture other than gambling, drinking, and debauchery.

No fucking professional league can operate in Las Vegas, there are no home-town fans. The place has zero sense of community and would not support a team. People come in and out of the place, and its nothing more than a port city for alcoholics and overweight people.

The potential owners in Quebec didn't want to pay the ~$500 million expansion fee. It's a much better option for a relocation of say a Carolina Hurricanes team for ~$200 million

I'm stoked to be able to do trips to Vegas and watch my team for cheap while I'm there.

I've been an Edmonton fan for ages and have never been convinced they were going anywhere besides the basement for years.

However... this year will be the year there is some promising move up the standings, I'm not saying contender, but I expect they'll be competing for a playoff spot at the end of the season providing the team remains somewhat healthy (connor and talbot). Chia is going to finally get rid of a few of the kids and pick up some defensive depth.

hopefully I'm not going to be called an idiot in February haha

Because money. Bettman needs to make a couple more million to go along with his gazillions hes got stashed away.

Can't wait for sponsor logos on the jerseys, too. What a time to be alive, boys.

The Blues seem to look better every year. There are rumors Vladamir Sebotka might come back from the KHL though and I'm super stoked to see if that happens.

You... you do understand that Gary Bettman does not OWN the National Hockey League?

He's a salaried employee. He makes the same amount of money whether there's a team in Los Angeles or Quebec or no expansion team at all.

But does he get bonuses or kickbacks or other financial incentive that wouldn't necessarily be part of his salary?

Not really sure where this is coming from. They could be way over cap if they resign Lovejoy, Schultz, and Cullen but likely Lovejoy will head to another team for some big bucks and idk about the other two. Do the Pens really need to resign any of those guys? Maybe Schultz considering Pouliot is a nightmare. But that is possible with some movement. The pens are currently 1.2 mil under the cap. Kunitz will likely be gone after next year and they could likely move him to gain some cap space, he's getting old and slowing down. Plus the young bucks like Sheary, Rust, Kuhnhackl, Wilson, and Sundqvist will all be around for another couple of years for mad cheap.

Also Malkin will not be traded. He has a no movement clause and seems to really like Pittsburgh so I doubt we will see him elsewhere anytime soon. Where else is he going to get the chance to shit on Ovechkin every season? He loves beating the piss out of his fellow comrade.

Trading Fluery could greatly help in the future, however this season proved that having two or even three solid goalies is necessary.

Bennett really needs to be let go. His injuries have plagued his career.

And Jayrich keep in mind the pens cap hit on Kessels salary is partially taken by Toronto still. He may make upwards of 10 mil but only about 7 goes towards the pens cap.

What I'm really getting at is the pens likely will not lose much this year. The following year will be a different story.

Yea I don't expect them to clean house this summer, but they certainly are going to have to free up salary soon. It would not surprise me in the slightest if Kessel is moved this summer if the right deal is offered.

But the point was I think they've peaked and it's only downhill from here.

I loved watching Cullen center the fourth line this year. He was a huge help for the team, which was exactly what Rutherford signed him for. He's an all around class act. The young guys on the team are so much fun to watch. Sheary and Rust especially. I think they show a lot of potential and are only going to get better if they're on lines with Geno and Sid. I agree with pretty much all that you're saying, Auschie. Schultz seems so hit or miss though. I'm trusting that Rutherford will work his magic the next few years.

I can see why you might think they peaked, but I would have to disagree. I think their young guys are going to continue to step up for the next couple years and only get better. I mean I am a little biased being from Pittsburgh and living here my whole life, but I still think they're going to be top contenders for at least the next few years.

Lets go Canes! They just got Teravainen and Bickell from the hawks which is a step in the right direction, hopefully they can generate some more offense, should be interesting to see what which younger players can step up

holland is really just an idiot for pressuring Datsyuck into that deal when he really only wanted to play for like 2 more years. now they gotta dump off a contract + either jurco or pulkinnen to some sorry suckers to try and not get fucked by that cap hit. homer fans need to wake up realize this dudes a buffoon, the same guy who insisted on trying to re-sign an worn-out horse like dan cleary. Pavel's gonna go and win a championship in the KHL because he knows for damn sure this team is not going anywhere and it aint worth wasting the last decent years of your playing career on a sinking 1st-round exit ship.

Subban for Weber. What what what. I'd say Montreal got a good trade if they don't have to take on Webers.

entire salary

Also Larsson for Hall.

Subban has to be thanking the gods for that trade. I don't know what the salary deals are with that trade but I'd say Nashville acquired a more dangerous player.

The Hall for Larsson trade makes no sense to me. Maybe the Oilers thought their offense was too dangerous and just need to upgrade their defense? They are going to miss Hall. I mean with their logic the Pens could have traded Schultz back to the Oilers for Hall.

Interesting stuff either way I just believe this proves why Edmonton is always at the bottom of the league and the Canadiens can't put together a solid cup run (last season was simply because of Price's injury).

Subban is more dangerous for both teams. Weber is arguably the better defenceman (definitely better defensively) and apparently costs less. I'd say Montreal got a good deal.

I think Edmonton could have got a better deal for Hall.

The oilers are absolutely desperate for defense to the point that they traded one of the top producing guys in the league for a guy who, while good, isn't a particularly 1st line kinda talent...

I don't know what Edmonton is doing here, but I can't see it turning out well for them. If you're going to trade Hall, you need to get a serious SERIOUS return, what with his offensive production (he produces in the top 25 of the league for crying out loud). New Jersey actually has somebody who can make that team interesting ever since they lost Parise and Kovalchuk. Good trade for NJ. Stupid for Edmonton..

As for PK for Shea. What? Left field there... I'd like to call it a wash here... but I feel like PK Subban is the more dangerous player on ice while Weber is the more traditional D-guy. I don't really understand it entirely.

Stamkos remaining in Tampa Bay is pretty huge too... I figured he'd probably stick around, but I had an idea that one of the big market eastern teams with tons of cap space - Boston, Detroit, or NJD would be able to woo him enough to tempt Free Agency.

As for the Las Vegas team...

They should just name it the Nordiques... so when they realize what a stupid idea it was to put a team in vegas was, they can finally just move the team to a deserving market and not have to change the name or do anything.

People don't even go to vegas to BET on hockey much less watch it. Fucking nonsense.

Subbans apparently going to save a million and some change down in Nashville, too. Its like a 30-35% income tax rate compared to something like over 50 he was apparently paying in montreal. Thats a lot of extra money laying around.

Lol if you were thinking that the Oil wouldn't get completely fleeced on a deal with a dman going their way... you're dreaming. The whole league knows how desperate they are and who would want any of their golden boys after having that losing culture ingrained in them? Oilers have practically zero negotiating power when it comes to trading a forward for a dman.

Hope they sign Lucic so that by the time McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nurse need extensions they're way over the cap and have to rebuild again.

Really sad to see Subban go. The show must go on.

Alexander Radulov signed a one year term with the Habs. Pretty excited for this player, although he seems to be a basket case, the offensive potential is definitely there.

I also have the feeling he matured a lot since his time in Nashville, hopefully he learned from his mistakes and is ready to commit to the team.

Hockey fans are from the places that people like to travel to. Division rivals closeby just as much as Toronto or Edmonton fans.

YOu got any clue how expensive the Toronto@Vegas game every year will be if its on a weekend? Probably 300+ for the cheapest ticket.

If the team wins before the novelty wears off local support will be pretty good.

Quebec City couldn't even sell out a Beiber show at that new arena and it was on a Saturday. Very small market and just not as loyal as Winnipeg lots of Habs fans in Quebec and the Nordiques have been gone over 20 years.

Love the Backes signing for the Bruins. Perfect fit just add a legit D man and the team should be one of the top sides in the east.
