Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

I would say well played canucks if they played well... but in actuality boston just didn't play that great. I will say that the goal the canucks scored was well played and thomas still almost saved it....back to boston for some more canuck crushin!!!!

i'm not trying to take away from the fact that he scored, but any dickless, blind fucker could have scored that goal. Lapierre is a bitch and i hope someone fucking guts him bare-handed on the ice.

I am pretty sure that was exactly what happened in Boston for Vancouver, the only difference is Thomas was still good whereas Luongo was awful in Boston.

I'm amazed the nucks pulled that one off. 2 games to take the goddamn cup. I hadn't even considered this as an option. That was fun to watch.
But holy shit so many hockey fans are assholes. Bunches of stories from vancouver fans in boston getting spit on, beers thrown at them, called different racial slurs when it applies, etc. And today, biking home from my friend's place in an unfortunately black/yellow jiberish crewneck, some redneck leaned out of his window and yelled at me. Something about smelling like piss. Good one bud. Why can't fans just respect that the other team's fans are the equivalent of them, and just get stoked on hockey and the city they live in?

yeah its assholish, but its boston, what does one expect. look at boston in the 70s; fuckin hardest city out there, of course if you wander the streets wearing a canucks jersey shits going to happen

Downtown was absolutely ridiculous immediately after the game. Shut the fuck down. I have never seen that, not even gold medal win.

completly insane!! i have never, ever seen anywhere so packed and loud and happy! i think i got over 100 high fives tonight, so much fun

lappiere is actually a giant fucking bitch. but hey, props on the opportunistic goal. i could have scored that one. right place at the right time, sort of deal, and it was mishandled by thomas. props though. nice to see luongo not choke like he fucking always does..

I was most impressed by Lapierre's cele tonight. It was Gretzky-esque.

And downtown was unreal! I'm not much of a Canucks fan but it was impossible not to get into it. Thousands of people, all ecstatic for the same reason, it was special to be there. I'm still reeling from the thought that the Canucks are only one win away from the cup.

Haha yeah right, skillful win in Boston my ass, shitty ice and a few lucky bounces developing into a blowout? Get out.

And to all the haters on the diving-- both teams are doing it so you can get the fuck out too.

haha always an excuse I guess. And the Canucks dive 90% more than Boston so chill out. Great game and props to Lapierre though, that goal was nice i wouldn't take anything away from that. See you in Boston!

wait, what? is luongo really telling tim thomas how to play goalie after getting outscored 12-1 at Boston. C'mon now, Roberto, that's a little silly. i'm really sick of vancouver bitching about Tim Thomas playing aggressive

what i want to know is why the fuck we chilled on the hitting, the cancucks came out hitting and we just sort of took it the whole game, props to the cancucks for that

that said i still say game 6 goes bruins. game 5 was a pretty lame showing by the b's, it just wasn't all there. we had a few opportunities, but luongo played great and shut us down. theyll switch it around for game 6 no doubt.

and they should have played seguin more after it became clear they werent going to hit

post game press conference.

there was also an article about Vanc.'s coach bitching to the NHL about Tim Thomas coming out of the crease an initiating contact with Nucks players. he was also bitching about him hitting Sedin when Sedin was int he mother fucking crease.

yeah what is that? Tim Thomas is one of the most well-spoken, classy players in the NHL when it comes to interviews. I haven't seen one interview where he bashes another player and isn't smiling for god's sake.

i respect that Luongo is an olympic gold-medalist and Vezzina trophy candidate, but after getting pounded in Boston how can you come back and criticize Tim Thomas for one goal? I'm almost certain the Bruins scored more goals in game three than Tim Thomas has let up all series. C'mon now Mr. Luongo, get your head out of your ass.

he's probably trying to convince himself that he's better in order not to make an ass out of himself in boston. in any case, you don't say that shit to tim thomas, one of the nicest and most skilled dudes out there. just one less reason to like the canucks as a whole haha

it's not LuOCHO's place to give Tim goaltending advice hahaha. if Tim Thomas doesn't win the Vezzina Trophy than i have no faith in the NHL.

and to the kid who also quoted me, i took that video straight from barstool haha. so much hate on there, i love it.

there is no goalie more spectacular and fascinating to watch than tim thomas. you could say his aggression and getting deep outside the crease leads to all the insane saves because he puts himself in shit situations, but even when he's in the net he makes ridiculous saves. Tim Thomas is god.

It's up to 27 GM's to vote for it. I say 27 because obviously peter chirelli, the vancouver gm, and that other guy are going to vote for their goalie.

I'm ready for game 6. Couple of my friends nabbed some tix i'm super jealous right now... i might go into boston on monday just for the afterparty - assuming they win, and the parade - assuming we get that far. Still have faith in my team.

Your Icon: most dominant sports team to ever play? I think so! but never forget America's 1980 olympic team, thats a fantastic story of kids my age. Bostonians and Minnesotans playing together to defeat the Soviet Machine.

i'm not bitching. i'm so incredibly impressed with Tim Thomas' play, the guy's unbelievable. The Bruins need to score first, or at least have Vancouver score first early. When the first goal of the game comes in the 3rd period, you only have so much time to win the game. I look forward to tomorrow's game, it's going to be wild.

i dont know why you guys are going crazy over what luongo said. he wasnt really bashing on the guy, he was just saying it like it is. he just acknowledged that thomas is super aggressive and even though that style is the reason why hes one of the best goalies in the league it does have some cons (ex not being able to make that specific save)

best team ever of all time. EVER

i would bet to say if you gave them skates they would some how win.....

Yeah I have to say, national teams and all star teams shouldn't really count. In hockey, the 95-96 Red Wings have to be a contender, even though they didn't win the cup until the next year. That team was insane.

it's not so much what he said, more how he said it. it came of really snide and arrogant like, "if you sat back in the net like me, you would have made that save. i wouldn't let that shot go in."

It's just annoying that both games he's pitched a shutout in the series, the media has almost immediately asked him about Tim Thomas. It's like "I'm 200 feet away from the guy, you were in a better position to analyze that than me."

I dunno about condescending, I doubt anyone can honestly think Luongo is deluded and somehow believes he's outplayed Thomas in this series, and everything he said is correct. It sounded more to me like an answer to a question that was really stupid and annoying for a player who just first-starred in a game. I can get why you'd be frustrated after responding to ridiculous pressure with a fucking 1-0 shutout only to have to hear everyone yet again go "how about that Timmy Thomas again, hey?""Can you please explain to everyone why that goal wasn't Timmy's fault?" "Roberto, no one was stopping that puck, right? It was just bad luck?" Fuck off, how about we talk about stuff that they guy you're asking the question of was actually involved in.

Second, it's a dumb question because it's "from a goaltender's perspective, talk about this thing". Well, fuck, obvioulsy it depends on the goaltender, they're not all the same. Tim Thomas is nothing like Roberto Luongo. They play totally differently. How is his perspective relevant? From this particular goaltender's perspective that's an easily stoppable puck. Several of the other 24 that Thomas stopped certainly would not have been easily stoppable and he might have let a couple of those in. Because Thomas's style is what it is he stopped all of those 24, just like this one went in because his style is what it is. But if you ask a dumb question...
