Offical 08-09 Big Mountain Thread.

i haven't skied there since the beginning of january but they're not building the pipe this year are they? that was their plan at least.

I haven't the least idea where they are going to put the step up, but they definitely need either steeper landings on the jumps they have or a bigger/new jump. But they are definitely blowing snow in the halfpipe area (where the hips are planned for). A large step up would rock my world.

Flat down rail is fun, you can hit it from just below the kink off of an urbanish lip they have there.

However, none of this matters right now, because it snowed all day up there, and it's dumping in Kalispell now. If tonight goes as I hope, I won't be anywhere near the park tomorrow.

A 'troller told me that we haven't had snow since the 11th. Which seems right.

But the 8" today felt like more, even though it was super light and fluffy. I had a great time, and strongly suggest that any and all NSers in the area get up there and get some powpow.

Top jump in the park is now up, and it is a gap to butterbox (out of snow) gap to landing. Looks cool, but I didn't care about it today.

thats sick!!!!!

Heres some pics of the jumpline and you can barely see a couple of the rails after that.

Heres the first jump (this was on a competition day fyi)

Heres the second and third jump and then some jibs after that if you can see them

the second one could be a lot bigger than it actually is right now, too bad the landing isnt longer cause it would make a sick jump. I overshot it twice in a row the other day...sigh...it was sick before the comp but it seems like they made it shorter.

Yea they have pushed a landing for a bigger jump of some kind, hopefully be up by this weekend.

Here is some info about the rail jam on February 7th, which is Saturday. It is one of the "nightrider" series which are usually a good time, Im pretty sure I will be there.

3:30 – 4:30pm Registration-old info center deck outside village ski shop, t-shirts for first 60 to register

4:30 – 5:15pm Mandatory Inspection

5:30 - 6:40pm Rail Jam Competition-above Ed and Mully's

6:45 - 7:00pm Dash For Cash- a fun obstacle course race open to everyone to win $100

7:00 Torchlight Parade and Fireworks

After Fireworks, - Awards @ Ed & Mully’s

Heres the plan for the park, got this in an email, its legit. Its pretty cool how they are widening out the park and using two different runs for park features. Interesting to see how it turns out.

well i suck at snowskating and i think i would rather participate in a rail jam than watch one... you ever thought about that one gay-lex?

Have fun hitting boxes and being mis-judged. Hopefully they have the shark fin set up because that was really worth it for them to build, so much fun.

i heard the yeti snowskate jam's going to be better than ever! It would definitely be a good idea to be ther and not at the rail jam because you will have to pay to do that and hike a lot and get tired. And you will miss out on the yeti.

We all know you got robbed completly but id rather hit rails and have fun with friends then freeze my ass off watching the snowskate jam.

Haha yeah. I just happen to be involved with the YETI jam, so I'm advocating that. I have had fun at the rail jams up at the mountain, but I have had distinct disagreements with the judging, not just this year, but in years past as well. I'm just throwin this out there: nothing against the riders whatsoever, but it seems like if you are on the big mtn freestyle team you automatically get bonus points.
So, I'll try and take what I've learned from being a rider and direct it in a positive fashion to being a judge at YETI.
All that being said, why not enter YETI? And to those not entering, it should be a good show.

there's kindof a website but you can only access it if you have the exact url because somehow its hidden from google. And i dont know that url.

Alex has been getting robbed for as long as I've known him. Judging has been wack, and the kid is ridiculous on on a pair of skis.

I talked to Josh (head of events)about judging next year, and he was cool with me doing that, so I'll save my body and freeze my ass off and hopefully the results will be more focused on technicality with style instead of hucking if I have anything to say about it.

The YETI Jam was sick.
I skied big mtn today, and it was super fun. It was blue bird, and Jib-spo was goin off.
The park was...... interesting. The three jumps felt ok. They are fun size for a medium park, but the second two lips are really skinny for some reason. So, the jumps are decent, and then come the rails.
I couldn't get speed for the wall ride, but it might be fun if you could. Then the flat shotgun and down rail are ok. Then the flat box and flat rail are ok, but then it gets weird. You can choose between the shark fin garbage pile or the new rollercoaster of death. I haven't been happy with either one, but try it yourself and who knows, maybe you will like them. Then, lastly, there is the 35 footer or box option. Both of these are set up as down rails/boxes. I think they need to make up their mind and make something urban style or make something jump on from the front style, because mixing the two is not that sweet.
They are movin snow for the hips and the big table. Those might actually be really nice if they make the lips good.
Oh and with no disrespect, was the rail jam on the one flat bar and the one box (with the small stall at the end)? If it was, that's weaksauce on big mtn's part.

the rail jam setup wasnt great but still kinda fun. The shark rail is defiantly to short last time i did it i pretty much tapped both parts and the rollercoaster of death it seems its setup going down then up and the 2nd and 3rd jump need to be wider and bigger.

i would be much happier if they stopped trying to make all this fancy shit that was gay set up badly and a "medium" jump line consisting of three 15-20 foot tables. and just set up a couple solid rails and one nice, big table. they could still have the beginner park

heya so i dont know a lot of you. i know shae and david though for those who know him. i live in washington but im gonna be out to the fish this weekend with my friend. feel free to say what up if you see us. im riding anthems w/ saga suit (birthday present lol) and hes got pipe cleaners w/ oakley jacket

peace

Jesus the hip there setting up is huge. The stepover looks nice though. Major complaint is that the urban setups are about a ft wide on each side.

the jump is going to be a beast. it looks fucking sick. i hope its open today.the hips are real big too, but the landing isnt quite steep enough, but someone told me they were going to work on that last night. the rails are set up reeally shitty and the whoopdedo and sharkrail are the bigggest waists of money and effort ever.

The step-over looks fine and should open by the weekend, but the hips have a very flat landing so there fixing them.

yea that shits pretty gnar, i havent hit those hips yet, but the rest of the park is pretty dang fun right now. They look good though. Yea landings may be a bit flat, but shit, just be ready for it haha, prob wont be fixed anytime soon.

The rest of the mountain is pretty dang good right now too though.

I was out there not too long ago with my friend. Here are some photos from the one day off the backside, a little off bounds.

Yep, new booter is up and running. Its a gigantic cheese wedge and it seems like you have to mock into it. I have not hit it yet, maybe today. Ill get some pics of it too and post em up later.

Park is pretty good, nobody is really even hitting the new hips for good reasons (i.e. rocks in the landings and just kinda hard to get to etc.) The rails are setup the same for the most part. Flat box in the big rail park is now a flat down box. They need to change some shit up in the rail park, its getting stale imo. Wallride, I have not hit it yet, but looks alright.

Powder: Was ridiculous a couple days ago and is mostly tracked out now. Yesterday was a bluebird day so yea, alot of people out there tracking it up.
