Obesity America

don't worry so much, if the fat people want to continue eating truckloads of fast food, let them. it's their life and they are responsible for their own actions. i however prefer to eat healthy and get regular doses of strenuous activity and i don't eat fast food or fried foods. if they're killing themselves why does it bother all of you? personally i wouldn't mind a little more elbow room when i'm walking down the street.

not all obese people can control their weight with eating right and excersizing daily. although i'm sure 85% of them can.

i also eat healthy on a regular basis. there are small things you can do to change. like eat whole grain bread rather than white. instead of buying fruit juice, buy fruit. etc.

very true, i know of a few people personally that have gotten the gastric bypass surgery to better their lives. i am all for people taking control of their life if they are unhappy with their situation or better yet, have a life threatening situation which obesity surely can be.

except that when i am old enough to be living on my own im going to have to be paying taxes to support the unemployed obese people who can't hold a job and need medical treatment because they have diabetes or heart problems.

This is a good thread. I would have to say that almost all obeise people are like that because of there parents. Their parents let them eat what they want and sit in front of the tv all day. And like what other people said diet pills and that stuff is a bunch of shit, go walk, swim, ride a bike, go to your local Y, you could even go to the mall and just browse through the stores. Holy shit how hard is it really to maintain a decent weight. And does anybody know the percent of obiese people in the U.S.

personally, i dont worry about other people. if they don't have the sense or stay healthy im not going to lose sleep over it.

and plus i have a very fast metabolism so ill never have a weight issue. haha suckers.

BULLSHIT, IT IS THEIR FAULT. They should realize to stop eatting the food they are eatting when they start to get chubby, but no the just keep piling it on. I do not feel bad for them at all.

i saw a lady in shaws who was giant, she had the entire bottom thing filled with soda, mad frozen burritos, hot pockets, and easily 10 bags of chips.

goddamn

I agree with you on this point. I have made sure that my children are eating healthy, and are getting the nutrients they need. I choose fruits over cookies. I choose 100% juice over HI-C. I choose whole grain bread over white bread. These are all tiny things that parents can do to better their childrens lives. Yet they choose to take the easy road of junk food.

all of those are good ideas. the best idea...don't give your kids that crap! for the first 13 years of my life pretzels were a huge treat for me. my household never had candy. i couldn't eat a thing after 3:00 until dinner 5:30. and if i didn't eat my dinner i didn't have dessert. simple as that

but jedis.say.jea is hittin it right on the money, an overwhelming amount of obese people are in a low income tax bracket, many unable to afford insurance. but since they are american citizens, they still get taken care of for the most part. meaning people who can take care of themselves have to care for everyone else

i am fine with paying my taxes that go to pay for people who have health issues that can't pay for medical expenses. as long as the medical problem isn't the persons own damn fault for treating their bodies like shit for 20 years. i feel the same way about smokers and drug addicts. you need to take responsibility for your life and the lives under your watch.

p.s. thanks to everyone who posted meaningful thoughts. it just goes to show that there are still intelligent posts on newschoolers

ya but if the parents didnt grow up with healthy food in their household chances are they will probally do the same for their kids as their parents did for them.

yeah sometimes i just want to be like

you don't need this food and direct them to the produce department

Yes, but it's absolutley NO excuse for them to do that to THEIR children. Who says just because they grew up on crap food means their kids have to? If you're a good parent, you do what's best for you kid. Being lazy and giving them junk food because then the child doesn't fuss, is just no excuse. It's not hard to eat healthy.

as an adult you should be able to realize whats good and bad. and as something as talked about as fatty foods, they should realize they should feed their kids healthy foods. if they feed some crap like "its what my parents did, its all i konw" then i truly feel sorry for not having a mind of their own

Ya i agree with you 100% but some people are just lazy and really dont give a shit which is really pathetic and disapointing.

we play a game at buffets- who can find the fattest/worst looking person- we went to a buffet once and actually counted 68 peole who would be considered fat- there was only around 100-110 people in there

Yea I was buying pants for work over the summer...I had soo much trouble finding a 30 waist 32 length...I went through 6 stores...Every one of them had a size 50 waist 32 length or something similar...It's fuckin rediculous how fat America is...

im way too busy to read through all of this right now, but I work at ShopKo fulltime in the summer (similar to a Target if you haven't heard of it) and when I work the cash register every once in awhile I'm amazed at just how overweight nearly every customer is. It's just disgusting.

ii was in walmart the other day and i was walking around getting some food for laer and these two fatass 40 year old twins are riding around in those electric cart things and each one of them was also towing a cart too. the carts were filled to the brim with all sorrts of fucking junk food like bacon and pringles and shit like that. no wonder your a fat ass. look at the shit your buying

my girlfriend was checking out some of the on demand shit on our digital cable box and she found something about a 1200 pound man, now we started the show up to see exactly what a 1200 pound man looked like, it was fucking frightening. i will leave it at that, i wanted to cut out my eyes and flush them in the toilet it was that bad.

Yah there was a clip on this show I was watching of a guy getting lifted out of his house (mind you the cut apart the front door to make it huge for his fatass to fit through) in one of these..

because it was the only thing that could support him. And yes, that's a fucking full sized whale.

Yes diet is a big part of staying healthy, but excersise is far more important.

All of the kids I used to play sports with all the time from childhood to highschool were in good shape, because they excersised a lot. It's easy to tell when some kids don't excersise at all, and that's a huge reason people are fat.

oh god. so i went to the beach yesterday. i go fairly frequently but i had this thread on my mind so i was more aware of the fat people, and boy were there allot. i don't understand why girls who are overweight don't just wear one pieces

and thats exactly why people think they are fat because of genetics. blaming it on genetics is just looking for excuses of why they have an addiction to food. its your family's overall lifestyle which inflicts on your body composition. what also pisses me off though, is that there are so many people blaming it on fatty foods or high calorie foods. its actually the opposite. the low calorie artificial sugar substituted food is what making fat people even fatter.

sucralose and aspertame are found in all diet products, and they are considered to be carcinogens (cancerous), and lower metabolism. people like to blame mc donalds for their greasy chicken and burgers. when they are wrong, they shouldnt be blaming the greasy chicken/beef, its the litre of pop and stack of fries they wash their food down with.

in the movie supersize me, the person who has the world record for eating the most big macs is suprisingly not obese. what's his secret? he said he's never eaten a fry...

because when they wear one pieces all their fat gets pushed up and it all comes out the top of their back.. and ultimate back fat can sometimes be worse then a big belly hanging out the front

i don't know why but I really dislike obese people. As much as a I like junk food I don't think it's that hard to eat healthy. I mean, look at twinkies. Yellow sponge-cake with unidentifiable goo in the middle. That's probably not healthy. I just think a little bit of common sense and some discipline would go a long way for this country.

I was contemplating this the other day as well. I saw this very overweight couple with their incredibly overweight kid. The kid was literally 100 lbs, at least, and couldn't have been older than 10. They, in the time I was around them, both complained the stairs that they had trouble getting up. They, obviously, have a more difficult life because of their extreme obesity and clearly realize that it's because of their weight. Why, in such a case, do parents fail to realize that they did something wrong when it comes to their weight and transfer these terrible habits, trips to fast food restaurants, etc, to their kids. Do they not realize that their lives suck, to a certain extent, because they're fat, and that it won't be any different for their kids? I understand that they, evidently, lack an understanding of proper eating habits and such, but what prevents them from thinking to themselves, "we are overweight, it makes life difficult, let's change something so that our kid doesn't have live a similarly shitty life."

i work at shaws supermarket and i cannot believe the amount of fat people riding around in those carts with them filled to the brim with complete junk. It makes me mad when I see them get to the register, pay, then get off their asses and start walking with no problem at all. those carts are for people with disabilities, not laziness. I mean shit, if your gonna buy all that junk, the least you could do is walk around a damn supermarket for 15 mins and get some fuckin excersize. jeez

Some parents just don't care. They don't realize that they need to teach their children the right lifestyle. It goes the same with screaming out of control children in restaurants and what not. Their parents just don't care to teach them what is right. It's terrible, and I can't stand it. That is why I make the extra effort to show my children what is right. And I've been so proud to take my children out to eat and watch them behave as they should, and eat everything on their plate. Which I order. Because I know what's good for them.

I think I said it before, but this thread is so productive. I love it.

well, yes. It was more of a rhetorical question that I posed in my mini-rant, but I appreciate your addition to the point.

it shocks me all the time when i see people that just don't care. just the other day i was watching doctor phil (you'll watch anything with an injury) but it was this mother crying out for help becuase her son was immensely overweight. the dad would go in to his room at night and give the obese kid like 10 oreos and said his kid wasn't fat. then on top of it the father and mother could both be classified as morbidly obese. they wonder why their kid is fat. sometimes parents need to realize that if they've already screwed up their lives by being that fat, they shouldn't drag their kids down with them. like snwbrdmlf said i think, they need to simply be responsible parents.

Well, it's true. I feel it's extremely rare to find a parent who actually cares. I know that sounds bad...but the girls who live around me (a VERY small town) - all have gotten knocked up a few times, and just sit home. Letting their kids do what they want. I babysat for a friend the other day, and she says "I packed Spagetti-o's for lunch" - I just looked at her and said, "Yeah, my kids don't eat that shit." Made them PB&J (on whole grain bread!)with an apple. GO ME! I'm sorry, I'm just so proud to be a good mom.

wow, where do you live?

I have to strongly disagree with that point. In my experience, I'm yet to KNOW a truly irresponsible parent who does not care about their kids. Albeit I don't have any unwed teenage mothers who are friends and live in a town that's higher on the socio-economic scale, but still, I find it hard to believe that it's extremely rare for kid to have parents who care.

You meant parents who don't care, right? And you're right for calling me out. The town I live in is less than 600 people. And these people are going no where with their lives, and fast. But my statement does apply to where I live. I just didn't take the time to think about the rest of the world. So, whoops on me.
