I like the fact that his foreign policy is moving away from the arrogance we have exhibited in the past. Hes not opposed to actually TALKING to people.

I like his tax plan.

I like his healthcare plan.

I think/HOPE that his solution to the economic problem will work, but time will tell. However it is similar to FDR's which worked quite well.

I DONT like

The fact that he keeps waffling around on the prosecution of the people who ordered the torture. They tortured, they should suffer the consequences.

I would also have liked to see some more liberal appointments to some of his cabinet positions, but some of that was also the fact that conservatives flipped a shit when he tried to (See Freeman and how he got denied)

oh yeah, and hes black. :P jokes

thats actually debatable on the usefulness of the info they got. yes it did no real damage, they got lucky. but its no walk in the park. its not "simulated drowning" any more than holding someone under water is "simulated drowning". if you waterboard someone long enough, they can drown. and it can have other effects that can continue after they stop pouring the water. theres a reason they have doctors around.

and personally, i dont care how useful the info was. the united states does not torture. were supposed to be the epitome of protection of human rights, and waterboarding is anything but that.

i have to say one thing though Ben... ultimately, no matter what i want to believe or no matter how much i dont like it... he is my president and i have to live with that... i hope he manages to get this country going in the right direction again.. BUT, i HATE... absolutely HATE the way he gives speeches... if he has the teleprompter it sounds like he is already campaigning for his second term and talking down to us "common" folk... its annoying. AND, if he doesnt have the teleprompter he sounds like this "um.. ah...... (some reasonable words).. ah, uh... umm..." seriously. also, get a new cultural advisor obama... seriously man... whoever you have right now is a bit of an idiot.

i seriously dont hear the talking down. i really dont. in fact the worst "talking down" ive seen in a while was jindals response to that other speech obama gave. jindal sounded like he was adressing kindergartners the whole time. and the teleprompter. does he use it a lot? yes. but i think the ums and uhs are almost a GOOD thing. it means hes not just spitting pre-written responses at you, he might actually be thinking about what he wants to say. thats my 2 cents.

how is that the dumbest thing you have ever heard.... pouring water on someones face is a little different than jolting their body with 10k volts or holding them under water so they actually cant get air into their body.
 
technically dude... what the guys in the UFC do with submissions... if they were trying to get information is considered torture... if i was a cop and had you in an interrogation room and grabbed your ear and kept pulling really hard and you were in ANY sort of discomfort that is considered torture....

you clearly need to go back and look at what waterboarding is, because you have no clue. its not "pouring water on someones face" it goes up their nose, and their mouth is covered. they CANNOT BREATHE. your throat muscles seize up. in fact they can continue to seize up after they stop pouring the water, SO THEY STILL CANNOT BREATHE. thats no different than holding someone under water. none at all.
 
In any economics class dont they teach that FDR's plan actaully kept us in a recession longer than we should have been...
By the way I also hate his tax plan... go ahead run more business out of the country.. Texas has already mention succession (they have close to the best and most stable economy in the country right now) wonder what it will take for them to really do it...
 
i know what water boarding is. if it killed people they wouldnt do it, if it really harmed someones life they wouldnt do it. its like getting splashed in your face a bunch of times by a bucket ya it sucks and would yell stop but its not really going to hurt you. it gives and effect and doesnt do any harm, that is a known fact. go ahead and read you liberal reports on what water boarding is. my grandfather served in wwii, they water boarded then also he saw it happen to people said all it did was scare people shitless but they were fine as soon as the water was done falling.
 
they teach both sides. well, not in econ, but in history classes. i really dont agree with the side that says it extended the depression (yes depression not recession). saying that makes HUGE assumptions about things that you really cant assume. was the new deal perfect? absolutely not. but to say it prolonged the depression is ignoring the facts.
 
While I agree with you that the waterboarding was wrong, I can see why Obama would be hesitant to prosecute the perpatrators. I'm sure a lot more stuff like that goes on that we just don't know about. We all love to think and say how free we are, but we rarley really want to know what is being done to keep us that way. Now I'm not saying that torture is the answer, but I'm sure there are exceptions to this case as there are to most anything. I don't know, I am kinda indifferent to the whole subject and when it comes down to, I really have no idea on what the best way to maintain the saftey of an entire nation that is hated by much of the world, but I would guess that some less than respectable procedures are carried out. Just my 2 cents on the issue.

Other than that, I have been presently suprised by a few of Obama's moves. Coming from a conservative, I am happy that he pushed back his proposed new capital gains taxes back to 2011 instead of immidietly (I can't fucking spell that word) along with the death tax and a few income based taxes. I think it will allow people to make the most of what they have left to help spending increase a bit and not totally drain the wallets of the people while at the same time still implimenting some new tax policies to help balance the budget. It's also nice to see the head representative of our country not making an ass of himself infront of other foreign leaders and pursing diplomacy a little more seriously. I really have no complaints thus far to be honest, it is not reasonable (conservative or liberal) to expect him to resolve this whole mess within his first couple years let alone the first 100 days. Healthcare on the other hand, I am still skeptic. I understand that yes, education, fire dept, police depts. and many other aspects of our system are socialized, but as far as healthcare, I feel that it will just create a multi-tiered system in which all of the worst Dr.s will end up in the socialized system and the good dr.s will end up in a seperate private sector that will cost even more than today. I think the real things to blame for the healthcare mess, and yes I do agree it is in a mess, is the lawyers and insurance companies. Something does need to be done however, perhaps if there was a law against private healthcare, but I really dont think thats feasable and could prevent potentially great dr's from ever entering the field due to the high prices of med school and much less income in return. Im sure it is not the worst thing in the world by any means, I just think there is probably a better solution.
