NS why do you like OBAMA?......No Canadians allowed.

You are so right. The only people waterboarding ever killed were the Japanese, who were executed for doing it to American soldiers in WWII. If we still gave out Golden Wheelchairs...

tjskiguy who got really really aggro at me above: chill, I really could not care less what you think about Obama or pretty much anything else, but you can't say "ONLY CERTAIN PEOPLE CAN POST IN HERE" in the public forums. Anyone can post in the public forums in any thread they want, except for the people NS says can't. And since NS is Canadian, we're not likely to put a moratorium on Canadian posts. It was a funny and ludicrous thing to say on your part, so I was having fun with it. And then you had to go and get all angry because the internet is serious business I guess... take a deep breath and have a beer or something.

"They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Ben Franklin

A great quote I agree, but isn't that a little bit utopian, I mean can any country really completely comply with a policy like that. I think it is something definatley worth striving for, but do you think it is something actually achievable in real world practice? And technically our rights only apply to U.S. citizens. I'm not in disagreement that it is wrong, but it may be necessary sometimes.

im not saying we should hand them a tuna sandwich and ask them where their pals are (gregolian, insert your mercury poisoning joke here). but really, i dont think its Utopian to say we wont torture. in fact its pretty simple. we dont torture. in my opinion, torture is never "necessary". regardless of the consequences of not doing it, in my eyes, if we torture were no better than they are.

I just want to bring up one thing that has happened recently. Obama's plane flying 1000ft above ground zero. And none of the New York citizens were notified. The police were and one person in the mayors office, but not the mayor himself. So hundreds of people panicked and ran out of the skyscrapers they worked in in fear that it was another terrorist attack. And 45 minutes after everything had happened the people found out it was Obama's plane doing a "photo shoot". Obama said he "didn't know about this" and he also said he "found out when the people did".

Im calling bullshit! How do you not know about your plane taking off (and it is THE PLANE, Air Force One, but it technically isn't called Air Force One unless the President is on it, but it was still the Presidential Plane). And if Obama isn't lying about it, which i doubt, thats even a bigger deal! That just shows you how easy it would be for someone to hijack the Presidential Jet.

This is also a huge deal with me because we are in the middle of an economic crisis and Obama has his plane flying around taking photo's around American monuments. The plane was also scheduled to fly over the grand canyon and the golden gate bridge. But the others were immediately cancelled after the New York photo shoot. I cant even imagine the cost for one of the most secure planes in the world to take off and fly around on a little joy ride. This is our taxpayer dollars at its best ladies and gentlemen.

Am i the only one that thinks this is bullshit?

mercury poisoning? wha? when did i ever bring that up?

but dont bad mouth fishing son.... im japanese, DONT DISS THE FUCKING FISH!!!! ARGH!!!!! and sorry, i was sparring about 20 minutes ago with a professional UFC fighter... the aggro is STARTING to work its way out.

Well is anybody really better than anybody in the first place? I mean we label them as some evil fanatics, but on the opposite end, they think the same about us and what they do is justifiable to them. Everybody is evil according to at least one person or group. I don't think we are necessariy better than them, we just have completely different views influenced by centuries of different cultures. I do think religion is for a vastly large part to blame, and I don't subscribe to a specific book. (agnostic, cuz I cant wrap my mind around how anything became, yet don't believe man could ever really know for themselves... but thats for another day). I don't know where I am going with this, you make good points, but personally, I don't feel they can be fully achieved in current times, perhpas someday though. Nice actually getting some intelligent responses though instead of just saying fail or whatev.

uhh... what?

also if im not mistaken, the plane was a look alike/spare NOT airforce one, and a white house official (whose name is escaping me) claimed responsibility for the incident.

"White House officials said Obama was fuming mad and thinks Air Force One didn't need a new publicity photo anyway.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates "did not know in advance about this flying photo op," Morrell said. "Once he found out, suffice it to say he was surprised and not very pleased."'

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/sns-ap-us-low-flying-plane,0,4059971.story

it was a mistake by someone in his administration, but seriously, i fail to see the big deal. everyone makes mistakes. this wont be the last by him

You're definitely not, because cable news has made a huge deal out of it and they make their living making people care about things and get themselves worked up. However it is a completely unimportant story as to how your country is being run and government being managed. So if this is the kind of thing that is pissing you off about the administration, that's kind of sad... I can see people going "he should have just let auto manufacturers fail, the market would take care of the problem"; that's a legitimate perspective. I can see how people might think the stimulus was too much money thrown at an economic problem all at one time. But caring about one of the presidential planes flying around? That's only news because someone's telling you so. 'Course that's politics, but it's still pretty stupid.

Even if it was a look alike its still pretty messed up on how President Obama "didn't know about this." And btw thanks for pointing out it was a look alike, its the first i have herd about it because for some reason no one thought it was a big deal in the media, besides people like Michel Savage and such... So thanks for pointing that out. But all im saying is its pretty messed up and people do make mistakes but come on.

And to J.D. no this is not a major thing i don't like about what Obama is doing! There is plenty more. Like the reckless spending for one, the bailouts, and pretty much his whole economic plan.

i mean hes the president. he obviously has a TON on his plate. and cant possibly know about everything thats happening all the time. thats what he has a cabinet for. i guess what im trying to say is if this is the biggest faux pas the media can come up with, im fine with that hahaha.

True he does have a shit TON of stuff on his plate.. But i thought he might be at least the slightest bit informed about a look alike Air Force Once flying 1,000 feet above ground zero for a several thousand, if not hundreds of thousands, dollar expense.. Just my opinion.

i also read something about the FAA being the ones that mandated the secrecy, but i couldnt find any more on it/why they did. so it might have been THEIR fault people were shitting themselves in new york lol.

i dont like many of his policies, but the only thing i really want to talk about is his spending. he's spent way too much and will spend more than has been spent in the entire existence of this country. He's gonna start printing money cause even if he taxed the top earners 100% he still wouldnt get enough money. I thought Bush was a terrible spender, but things here are worse. Our children will be paying for this in a long time.

liberals hated on Bush just as much as the conservatives are hating on Obama now.... its just how shit goes down in this country.

people also didnt freak out about where air force one was every second of every day when bush was in office.

not the point. as jd said. it really wasnt that big of a deal, until the media decided to make it a big deal. every administration makes mistakes, little ones like this are NOT a big deal.

a couple points on this scare force one thing.

It's not merely a look alike. There are two of these planes, the modified 747s. The President goes in one, the other one is around. Air Force One is just the airplane that the president is on. Anyways, the purpose for the photo shoots is basically for marketing, especially for the companies making components for the aircraft. [man in office...points to airforce one over new york and says, "We make this for air force one"]

The "having a lot on his plate" excuse is just not good enough. These planes are booked and scheduled weeks in advance. Theres no way someone didnt come up to him saying, "what are you doing on this day, and are you planning on travelling?"

There was no one told about this because of security reasons. Surface to air missiles would kinda suck. They should have been told an hour or so before(less time for terrorists to prepare if they were trying). Bloombergs assistant was told but he forgot to tell Bloomberg, and he was pissed as well.

All in all its a stupid incident and there are far greater things to worry about in this country. The only thing it really tells us is that some people are starting to have a 9-10 mindset and thats not good.

do you really think people ask HIM about his schedule? he has people that plan that shit for him.

His economic plan won't work. He's merely spreading the money around not accumulating wealth. Oh and he's printing money which make our dollar weaker every day. Sorry guys I don't care if Obama could talk circles around McCain, Obama is fucking up and most americans voted Obama because it was cool.

I hope you're in a life or death situation and someone who has the information to save you is in custody and we can't get it out of him because we can't torture him and you die.

Which is why he has time to go on late night talk shows and make fun of the special olympics, oh and he is getting better at bowling. Yay!

And you don't think tons of money was printed under the Busch administration? Don't get me wrong, I am a conservative and I did vote for McCain... although it was tough cuz the thought of him dying and Palin being president scared the shit outta me, but it is not like this is something new. There are many aspects of his economic plan that I don't like, but really, we are in a very difficult situation. Regardless of party line, I think anybody, McCain or Obama would be doing everything they can to get us out of this mess. He did push back new taxes on capital gains and death taxes to 2011 instead of right now which does give some relief and was a huge issue for the GOP. What parts exactly is he fucking up? I'm not trying to patronize or anything, it just seems like a lot of conservatives are hating on Obama and not really saying why. Yeah there was pork in the stimulus bill, but can you find a bill passed in the last 50+ years without any? Its how politics work and how senators and congressmen get reelected, they bring money back home to their respective states. No one complains when it is coming there way. Also, most (almost all) of the pork added to bills comes once the bill goes to congress, the president either signs it or doesn't and if he really wants the bill to pass, then he more often than not has to take what he can get.

i totally agree with you. what people don't realize is that we are in the exact same position we were in at the beginning of the year.

It's just now people think the economy is getting better because Obama is in office..... really. seriously..... he passed a 700 billion dollar stimulus (pork) passage. out of that money like 17 billion is already in the economy and something like 80 percent of that went to healthcare costs. big stimulus if you ask me haha. other than that, nothing has changed.

oh for fucks sake. the special olympics line was no big deal. i dont even see how it was that offensive. and in order to get done what he wants to get done, he needs to reach out to the people. being on late night talk shows does that.

but please, go back to watching beck and hannity, because thats who you sound like

i mean KARL ROVE of all people had to talk down O'reilly the other night he was flying off the handle so bad. and hannity just changes the subject when people have a point, or cuts them off to talk about how he knows better. beck... idk what to even say about him. i might make him fake cry. if you find them entertaining thats fine, i find olbermann entertaining. but god they arent even remotely close to news.

well, ill give you Beck.... i hate Beck too... guy is annoying as fuck and all he does is scream... same as Hannity.

o'rielly i can handle most of the time. i can usually laugh at some of the stuff he says. but hannity and beck both make me want to kill bunnies and small children. seriously. they are so frustrating.

Its simulated drowning. I assure you, if the CIA were to target you and subject you to this, you would not be laughing at the end of the thrill ride.

In all seriousness, this matter has been way blown out of proportion. Yes, it was only done to three high level members of Al-Qaida, but as a matter of principle, I find it sickening that the country with the most massive military budget ever has to resort to something that can even be debated upon as torture in order to procure evidence. We should be better than this.

maybe we should inject them with dangerous drugs....i know its simulated drowning.. SIMULTATED unlike electrocution which is not simulated lol.

this
... also yeh im a canadian eh; but i have a keen intrest in american politics because they pretty much affect everyone
also i wanna move to cali one day

no no no. you sir are retarded. obama has done more in his first 100 days than bush did at all.

he didnt uh and ah for 20 mins like bush did. he knew exactly what he was going to say durring his speach. it was fluent and he explained exactly what he was doing. bush could hardly read. he dodged questions all of the time and made an idot of him self when ever he spoke.

obama answered every question with as much info as a person could handle. he actly knows whast going on in the world.

every thing he has done has been based on what is best for the people of this country.

you are pretty arrogant to assume that Obama has done more in his first 100 days than bush did at all. really? how old were you in 2001? 13? 14?

Both Obama and Bush did quite well during their first 100 days in office.

Bush passed his 1.6 trillion dollar tax cut, which despite popular belief, was not just for the wealthy. Bush passed the no-child-left- behind act. Rejected the Kyoto treaty. he passed faith based initiatives which focused solely on helping religious or "faith-based" groups obtain federal tax dollars and passed his budget for 2002.

Obama passed his stimulus package, expanded the State Children’s Health Insurance Plan to cover an additional 4 million children, passed his budget and is trying to get us out of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Did you know that after 100 days in office bush had an approval rating of 60%? Obama has a 69% approval rating. Pretty close.

The country always likes their president for the first 100 days, they would not have gotten elected if that was different. Our country is way way to short minded to remember what has happened only a few years ago.
