NS 0708 site suggestions!

under "my threads", it's pretty worthless for me to know what threads I posted in when there are now 5 pages and I'd have to sift through all of them to see if anyone "replied" to my post. You guys should see if you could get it to highlight the things you actually posted.
 
maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I think you are.. I mean, It's not very helpful knowing that I posted in a thread called, say, "I LIKE SKIS" when that thread is 5 pages long. However, if it highlighted each thing I posted, you could see how people responded to your particular question or whatever instead of searching through each page to see if someone answered your question
 
make he search bar more exact... like search the word in a thread or the thread title only.

kids should be able to delelte their own threads. that way if they make two on accident one can be deleted right away. also if they have a ? when they get and answer they can delete it and everything will be a lot less clutered.
 
If I were running NS I'd change the cosmetics of the site each season to keep excitement and interest up. Synch it up with the ski companies that repackage essentially the same shit year after year.
 
put a title or somehting that says "did u check the searchbar?" above the textbox when u create a thread, that way people may use it more often before making like 400 x games threads
 
I think it would be sick to have a section just for professional edits by major or near major companies or event video's that people could post and could be managed so that there are no reposts and instead of people posting video's that are not theirs in the video section
 
have a locked forum of past threads like boning a girl while dancing and other classics like "how i fingered a girl" so that we can view them but no one can post.
 
Haha, ya like you have to pass a simple quiz before it lets you create a screename.

The searchbar could use some work, I have trouble getting good results a lot of times.
 
i know it would make it somewhat myspaceey but i think a good idea would be to notify users when they have new picture or video comments. i like to see what people say but i hate having to click on myself on my friends list then looking through and seeing which pictures and videos have new comments. just an idea, i guess it could be a section of my threads, or maybe just integrate a new page that tells you about new threads, pictures comments and video comments.
 
Have a place where we can see last years terrain park updates aswell as this years, its cool to see how a park has progressed over time...

cults...change the order, maybe organize them by type?
 
Maybe do some of the improvements all the mods have been trying to get you to do for the past 2-3 years..? THAT might be somewhere to start.
 
it's a small thing, but maybe try facebook style pic browsing where you just click the picture to go the the next one? i always do that out of habit and end up with the enlarged version. i think itd be smoother than having to go back up to the top to click next pic, maybe you could swap the functions and put an 'enlarge pic' button up top
 
only problem with that is alot of cults arent active enough to use that feature and doin that would probably take up alot of unneaded space...
 
mabey then just for big cults that get alot of use like ladys men or soemthing like theres a qualification thing to get it
 
I hate to turn this into facebook but for the cults I think we should have the option to make the cult open so anyone can visit the forums. Allow embedded videos in the blogs.

Almost all the ideas in this thread are great, but out of all of them I think that making a search bar for cults is one of the biggest priorities. I also think seans idea about clicking on your home town or home mountain and a list showing of people from your home mountain or town would be baller.
 
Maybe something like G-mail's feature of "starring" things. So like you could star threads you wanted to. Something like a filtered my threads.

I was going to say having thread pic posting instuctions on the page that you type your post on, but they are already there, i just noticed that today
 
i haven't really fully thought of this idea but my idea is when you make a title for a thread it scans the searchbar for threads close to that name... basically it justs make you searchbar before you create a thread.
 
I want one of my profiles name to be white so that nobody knows who made a thread or posted a comment, like ghost riding the whip, but it would more be like ghost writing a bit...

(1) Allow cult owners to add the functionality to "open up" their cults to anybody who wants to join. I have a cult that i rarely go into (Snowmaking Cult) yet I get a ton of people always asking to be in. It would be nice if this cult was open to the public.

(2) Somebody mentioned facebook... I think facebook has AMAZING community features that could be brought into NS. You guys have the skills and the data do do this stuff. You just need to bust out some SQL. I like the way that everything (almost) in facebook can be clicked on to bring up "like" items. It will show you everybody who has also entered this item in their profile and stuff. This is super easy to do, but it really adds community appeal. See if you can't implement some more of facebook's amazing functionality.

(3) AJAX - cause it's pretty.

(4) Make the search bar SMALLER.. uggh hurts my eyes so ugly.

 
You could do this with AJAX. This is a very good idea. It could be slow though... to do a live search each time you you make a title. However, i guess the page sits there idling while you are composing the message anyways... This is a SLICK idea.

 
i'm not familiar with AJAX but think i'm guessing it is a lot like Spotlight on macs. spotlight is...

i think that would look good. but it'd have to be different enough for apple not to lawsuit NS....and instead of like mail have most replys, most viewed. most relevant,

also if we could rate threads by a simple up/down i think it would be good.

Yeah AJAX is a language for the web which will allow you to make live queries without reloading the page. You could use it to accomplish similar things to the functionality of spotlight.
