NPC behavior in terrain parks

High speed lift goes to the top of the hill. About 60 feet down slope is park entrance. Everyone and their brother side slips that entire area turning it into actual ice. Probably the highest trafficked part of the hill to boot.

Rip the meanest turns around the big metal gates or jump to the side of those weird metal things

preteens all hiking the same tiny tube that is so sticky I can barely straight slide it consistently, yet they are trying to learn tech tricks on it

NPCs that drop but hit their line super fucking slow so by the time I drop and I catch up to them and I have to either skip a feature or swap lines.

they sit on the rails. that’s it.

No frickin' way. I've never seen that in all my years, but if I did, I would have a nice talk with them.

Most very young children and parents. They just slide down randomly like in freeski the game

Yes, this is the worst. That's when I talk to the parents or parent. I tell them nicely, that if they don't want their kid to get seriously hurt, or killed, to take them to the Progression Park, or the Family Zone.

I tell them none of these folks want to hit a little grom, and they would feel horrible, so please don't ski them through here!

My resort is “upsidedown” so every visitor has to drive up a 1500 vert road to get here. Speed limit is 45 and people have legit gone 10 up it. And of course. Florida plates

The NPC’s on hill often have a malfunction where they’ll case a jump and take no fall damage, making them think it’s okay to do it every run.

this one hits close to home

Parents waiting with their kids on the roller next to the jump, then sending the kids to ski across the landing as soon as I’m midair. Basically acting as moving tail tap features

At killington, especially on weekend in the mouse run park, you can always count on someone (or multiple people) sitting or fallen on the landing of the jump in just a way you cannot see them until you hit the jump.

... with age comes wisdom...bow down, chilluns...

Who ever downed OldStoke for comping me, must not have read my above.

Some folks are 4 times older than a lot of you, and they like you all, and just want to help, so you don't have to learn the hard way.

Then again, we get it, some just have to learn from the school of hard knocks. Just hope not to get sued when it happens.

And yes, I said "everyone has to start from square one"

So take the person in question, and show them the ropes. Maybe take them to the beginner park. Show them a few things, and then go have a good day.

Bottom line is being nice as you can, and have a teaching moment. You might save a life, and change someone's life for the better.

we’ve got this guy we call the zombie turner. Old tell guy that rides with no poles and has hands glued to his hips. Honestly pretty steezy, never says a word and skis solo at all times

At timberline a few springs back there was this guy we called gandalf who skied around with a giant single pole like a wizard staff and would do pole plant 5s with it

This comment deserves more recognition.

"Do you get to the Big Park often? Oh what am I saying, of course you don't."

So spot on. Love watching this all day though

I just do not understand why people who have no intention of hitting any features decide to enter the gated area with the big sign that says terrain park. Opening day was so overcrowded with people not even trying to learn park. 60% were using the park as another groomed run, getting some pretty sweet carves in while weaving to avoid all the features

duck under that annoying rope thing (who put that there) to hit the sick jumps decorated with handrails you can jump over that park crew grooms up just for them

??

”I used to be a park rat like you, until I took a handrail to the knee”

This hits close to home. And if you wait for them to clear, someone will snake you while you’re waiting

bro last year some dude did the opposite and literally missed the entire landing the biggest jump in the line. Like landed to flat and the dude layed there for a second and we all thought he was hurt pretty fucking bad but he just gets up and skis off like it was nothing

That reminds me of an incident like 10 years ago at le Bowl where this old ass dude straight bombed the biggest jump in the park (when it was decent) and sent it straight to flat. He had to be airlifted to the hospital after that for obvious reasons.

If it was opening day I’m guessing there wasn’t much terrain open, therefore people might just be looking for a slightly different groomed run? Still sucks for us but makes sense.

sounds like crystal in Mi

The whole family stands at the park entrance to watch their little 6 year old Timmy hit a side hit for the 100th time that day, then proceed to follow him down through the park in train-fashion

Team of 20 young racers waiting next to the feature before the only jump in the park as their coach waits on the knuckle to watch the daffy train, like it’s a fucking field trip. One of them will certainly drop in much slower than you just before you come off the feature and head towards the jump.

Timmy is from Texas and his dad is definitely wearing jeans

The NPCs that hold their poles out in both hands, horizontally across their chest. Surely this means they’ve achieved ski mastery and are put there to inspire you to do better
