What the hell could Canada do anyways?

Here you go Bush, some of my finest sling shoters should do the trick..and if that doesn't work we're pretty good at taunting the enemy, so here's a couple of our first class taunters.

bush is a fucking moron, why declare war when you dont know who your fighting against?

'if you look at a chick and the first thing that comes to mind is an animal, that is not good.' -etom

bush only decided to attack Iraq cos he had no luck in getting rid of bin laden - fuck, they dont even know where he is. plus bush wouldn't know what to do as president, so hes having a couple of wars to get people distracted from the fact that hes actually done fuck all to benefit the US in anyway at all

Thats not right, Canadians support the US's proposal of invading Iraq by 52%. This is more than any other ally, including Great Britain, Spain and Italy!

What is the colour of a mirror?

as soon as the attacks of 9/11 happened, bush declared war. with who, you ask? the terrorists! but we dont know who or where they are! god bless america.

'if you look at a chick and the first thing that comes to mind is an animal, that is not good.' -etom

Hmm that's interesting I remember there being like a long period before we actually committed any strikes.

And if you read your news war hasn't even been declared by the US, Bush is still making his case to the Senate and looking for their support, I'd like to see this pre-war crap drag on for a while to scare Saddam and hopefully we won't have to fight.

actually what we are doing is trying to get out of this recession. FDR got into WW2 to help get out of the depression and bush is trying to do the same only with iraq. i am against going to war with iraq mostly because we sold them most of the items used to create the chemical weapons. we gave them to iraq to help get rid of the shah in iran in the 80's and now we are saying they shouldnt use them. we are being fucking hypocrites

wooaaah....easy there fellas...you gotta look at it from all sides.

Ok, first off, canada HAS NOT SAID that it 'will not go to war against iraq' They've only said that they 'cannot support an attack unless there is PROOF that saddam is a real threat'. Read it in the news this morning. Chretien and most other leaders who are uncertain are waiting for Bush's speach to the United Nations on Thursday. This is where he will put forth any evidence they have, and probably most countries and the UN will decide what they want to do.

Ok, first off, EVERYONE knows that saddam is a crazy fucker. We KNOW that he has used biological warfare against his OWN people, so would it matter to him if he used it on Washington DC?? Probably not. For god sakes he even tried to assasinate his own son because he was worried he was going to try and over-throw him. Uday Hussein is now paralized.

Now if saddam isn't doing anything wrong, if he doesn't have any weapons of mass destruction, then why won't he let the weapons inspectors in to have a look around? If he's innocent..then why is he acting so guilty??

We should all blaim Bush Sr. for not getting rid of saddam when he had the chance at the end of the gulf war. Now, if saddam does have weapons of mass destruction do you want his finger on the button?? What about if/when he gets nuclear weapons? Do you really think any country is going to want to face off agains a guy who will have his own kid shot to stay in power once he's got nukes? No. Basically what the US is trying to do is avert what could become a global disaster. I personally would MUCH rather have Saddam out of power then just sit back and watch his power grow. I just wish that there was a way to do it without harming innocent iraqis. Though after seeing video of thousands of iraqis cheering and celebrating in the streets after the World Trade towers collapsed, I'm not sure how much i care.

Im glad you someone said it first so it saved me time.

I dont think WW2 as far as the US's perspective had anything to do with Pearl Harbour. Ya, for sure not.

hah..i should have proof read that mess.

I'm not saying sadamms a good guy by any means, but what gives the US the right to decide who is a threat to the world. put it this way. if the police came to your door and demanded that they search your house. You would probably say no if they didn't have any proof of any wrong doing. The only reason the US attacked Iraq(in the 90s, the gulf war) was for Quwaits oil in the first place. It had nothing to do with human rights. quwait had oil. USA wants oil. Iraq takes oil. US takes it back. women are still second class citizens there. whatever helps the USA goes, it seems. The USA spends over a billion dollars a day to keep the army running. not fighting, just operating. Biggest waste of money ever. thats just the way I see it. take it for what you may

isn't the US annual military spending somewhere over 300 billion a year since 9/11?

in todays paper, they do mention that they have proof that the iraquis(sp?) are building weapons of mass destruction, so what more can you say? if the US knows this they are obviously gonna stick their nose in and investigate. they also will try to drag other countries down with them

yah, they're waiting for the meeting with the UN on thursday to reveal their proof. They're making a big deal out of this 'proof' that they have, so i assume it must be pretty good. I doubt they'd give this much build up if they didn't really have anything.

haha, whoever said that America entered WW2 to get out of a depression is quite messed up. The worst thing you could possibly do in a depression is join a war. What are you talking about? Wars cost absolute buttloads of money and requires the sending of the country's young men off to foreign soil to die, yeah, that'll get you out of a depression won't it. And of course that whole Pearl Harbour thing, yeah, that was just a bluff, just an excuse right? yeah, that wouldn't have had anything to do with it at all, nope, not a thing. fucken hell.

sorry about the billion dollars a day thing. Someone told me that yesterday and I havn't checked up on it. I'm not possitive on that fact, but I wouldn't doubt it either. but I know it is a hole lotta money that could be better spent. I know that anytime the sr-71 blackbird flies it costs 200 000 dollars per hour of flight time. and the b-2 spirit stealth cost $570 million to make. cool toys, but damn expensive

And so far Bush hasn't proven anything about saddam. he might have some info, but until he shares it with the rest of the world, I couldn't care less. If he hasd proof he woulod have told Chretien and he would have agreed to help the US. but he didn't, so I am not convinced

and war does stimulate the economy. It costs money, but the money is spent, meaning someone makes money.

Actually, PhattTim, the psychological effect of being in a wartime state is what kicked the U.S.'s ass into gear and really turned us into the industrial and economic giant today. The war effort mobilized a huge workforce and started new research on all kinds of crazy stuff... frozen concentrated orange juice being one of them. It's amazing how much the U.S. did in four years to snap out of the Depression and into the 1950's of suburban America and the American Dream.

Anyway, about attacking Iraq... I'll begin with a little wit... so, we spend 1 billion a day just to maintain our military? Well shit then, can't just leave the fucker sitting around now can we? ;)

I'm a pretty peaceful guy myself, but there are times for peace and times for war. One time for war is when it's necessary to preserve national integrity and security. At the most basic scale, let's just say that the U.S. is operating purely in its own self-interest: we want to knock off Saddam, install a democratic government that will be U.S.-controlled, so we can minimize a terrorist threat and secure oil supplies. We were just assholes, went and conquered a country. So, what did we go wrong? We freed a country from a dictator, brought its industry into a huge market, industrialized a nation, eliminated the threat of nuclear or biochemical weapons, appeased the will of other nations in the area, and overall, made the world a better place. Sure, the U.S. was arrogant and overbearing and powerful- but we did what was best. That's a hard decision to make sometimes... take the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Then face the facts.

We ruthlessly slaughtered 120,000 civilians and military personnel- but we ended the war. We had broken the Japanese military code- and anyone who knows about Japanese culture knows what that means: with very few exceptions, the war would not be over until nearly every last Japanese soldier and civilian was dead or captured. So, by killing 120,000 we saved the lives of some 400,000 American POWs (who were to be slaughtered if we invaded), at least 500,000 Americans who would be killed if we hit the beaches, and at least three times as many Japanese who would die. Net gain- about 2 million lives saved.

Now I know a comparison of the current situation to WWII is totally irrational, but the maxim still applies: Sometimes, you gotta drop the bomb.

so.... who decides what is best. I thought all of the people in Iraq were dancing in the streets when the towers were hit. and a US controlled gov't is going to be put in place??? sounds like a well thought out plan to me. Put the gov't of a country that they hate in control. I'm sure the people will all be dancing in the streets.

and if it is US controlled, how can it be a democracy? who is in control? Bush? or the people of Iraq?

USA and national integrity used in the same sentance? ok, sure, I'm not even going to touch that one

yes. Exactly. More people need to realize these things. You can't always have win-win. Sometimes bad things have to be done for the greater good.

Someone also said that bush would have told chretien if they had proof, and he did tell him. He said 'i have proof, wait for my speech to the UN'.

Let me clarify- integrity speaking in a physical sense, i.e., the integrity of our government and borders against attack.

Perhaps controlled was a bit of a harsh term. What I meant was 'influenced.' Although the government will be a democracy, it will be one in pure American form... once again using Japan as an example, the way we governed the nation post-World War II, providing for the creation of a very American-style Constitution and an economy that was invariably tied to us. Economic dependence = political dependence. So a country will get a government and the U.S. will get money, which hopefully if we straighten up and get a Green or a Dem in the Presidency and full control of the Senate, we'll make good use of. The Clinton administration did wonders with the economy and debt.

Lol... dude the SR-71 has been decomissioned for over a decade.

I'm not sure what happened to one of my posts, but I posted how in the initial setup in the financial status of America by Alexander was to have a national debt. I don't have all my history papers and notes w/ me down here in school, but there is a practical reason to having a debt.

And people dancing in the streets... geez do you think those news stations over there aren't toys of the government. It is pure propaganda! To an extent the US's news is propaganda, but it isn't state controlled like middle eastern news. And when we intervened and setup the government in japan we were also their sovereign protectors.

And here's the science to the national debt, I actually posted this on the other post similar to this.

Alexander Hamilton actually proposed that the nation’s debts be funded at par, meaning completely paid. The debt was categorized into types: the national debt, the states’ debt, and the domestic debt. Congress agreed that the debts to foreign countries had to be paid off in order to establish good federal credit

('National Debt'). This in fact helped lead the US to eventually become the leading creditor in the world.

Time for quotes straight from the source. The domestic debt was not fully paid because Hamilton believed that if the government owed its citizens money, the citizens would work hard to make sure that the government was prosperous. This is a quote from Hamilton, 'A national debt, if it is not excessive (our debt may seem excessive even in relation to inflation over the time period of Hamilton, but it hasn't caused hyperinflation, this is key in understanding it's not excessive), will be to us a national blessing.' His debt reduction plan fulfilled his goal to '..restore the faith in the government and public credit, attract foreign capital to the United States, and increase the effective stock of money, thereby stimulating the economy.'

I hope I've made my point.

Yo Kami, I'm not saying that's not true, just that the major reason for the USA entering the war was the prompt of the attack at Pearl. And yah, the war in many ways did bring modern America to what it is.

What do you guys all think about the dropping of the A-bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?? I've noticed some pretty mixed feelings about that.

somebody said that american news isn't state controlled, while this is somewhat true, u still have to realize that the news is still controlled; not by government, but by heads of corporation. most notably ted turner. the 2 largest cable news channels are owned by aol/time warner.. and i would defy anybody to tell me that since 9/11, the channels haven't been flooded with propaganda. america isn't as different from the middle eastern countries we despise so much as many of us would like to believe.

Yea I acknowledged that propaganda does flow from our news stations, I don't even watch cable news, The 3 major public networks have to compete for news, and since people get repelled from bullshit propaganda eventually, those 3 nations have to vie for competition while having a broad spectrum of views. You have to realize how limited those countries have to outside exposure out there, all the newspapers and television is state censored, even in more modern places like china, the entire internet w/in that country is 'surrounded' w/ a huge firewall, and the government even controls their cyberspace.

kinda off topic, but to continue about the 'Great Firewall of China' recently a site was developeed that actually breaks this firewall, it displays text backwards in order to fool censors. Its aptly called Egloog. (Google backwards) I believe the article is on Slashdot.org

There's actually a website you can go to that tests to see if the page can be displayed under the chinese firewall, it's being used to compile a list on what is actually being blocked out.

You people who talk shit about America suck...I dont care if you are canadian or american or who ever. Trust me if you go to any other place on earth no one has it as good as we do. As for having an expensive military...ya well what would you do if we didnt have one and someone attacked us? And our army does a lot more good than you will ever realize.
