No poles= more style?

So I noticed lately that allot of the guys with some of the best style are skiing with out poles. Check out Keiran McVeigh in R2R and pretty much all of the guys in B&E Be Yourself episode.

Not saying that dudes with poles dont have style because that would be a straight up lie. Clayton Vila killed it in the creep. Just seems like lately the dudes not rocking pointy sticks are making it look easier than those who are. Anybody have any idea why?

someone stole my poles this year so im going no poles. and so far it feels a lot more free, and you can be a lot more creative once u get used to not being able to pole yourself to rails and stuff

Not trying to repost, and definitely not look for advice on the subject. Just wondering if people noticed that all the guys really crushin it lately werent using poles.

A few guys can pull it off, but for the most part i think you look way better with poles than without

it isnt really about looking good, for me its about functionality. I can ski way better without them, but i dont know if i can "pull them off"

Maybe Free your hands, free your soul.

I dropped poles a few years for a gag and I just can't stand to pick them up again.

Havn't used them once this season and not going back. I'll keep them fro when I'm shredding all mountain, but honostly it feels so much better skiing park without poles. Also, if you can't ski without poles without flailing your arms around, you are relying too much on your poles to ski. For me there was literally no adjustment for skiing without poles other than lift lines. Regardless, I suggest everyone try it. It's definitely not for every skiier, but you wont know until you at least try.

I would really like to see video of some of you who claim to have gone no poles. It's not that I don't believe you do it, but to see if you can actually pull it off without looking like shit. Most people can't.

if you can ski with poles, it's the exact same thing as long as you don't flail around. that being said, i flail like a motherfucker but it's just as bad with poles

thanks, that was my second day without poles so i dont feel totally stable without them. and my filmer fucking sucks dick, and cut out my good shots on the DFD and a few off the canted up rail. but the dictator is the shit

YES, this video is one of my favorites, and it's been a huge influence for me . Watching it during the summer years ago and getting me pumped for the season. Also, the song is so chill. Just an overall great edit, thanks for the post.

Skiing with no poles is like getting head from a dude. It feels cool, until you look down and realize you're gay.

That's cool, but that edit didn't have any footage of you actually skiing, unless you count snowplowing.

For me, it's no poles + heart = more style (so it's all about what you replace your poles with that determines whether the outcome is better or worse)

A lot of people look and ski better with poles. Nothing to be ashamed of, but I think long-term it's a relic of a bygone era.. at least if I can make my statement)

Maybe it's a matter of getting your music right.

Not using poles increases your balance a lot, so it makes it a lot easier to focus on style. That doesn't mean you can just drop your poles and be flowing with style though, takes some getting used to (as in figuring out wtf to do with your hands most of the time)

You've nailed it. If you can increase flow without poles then it's all the better.

I think the newschool progression (dare I say it) has gone from steeze to stoke at this point, but the real benefits are when speed is introduced. That's why I've called my skis speedboards, and to get big speed, you need a straight back, not a computer back, and to get that you need good style.

Now that ive gotten used to the look of no poles (since it seems to be having a resurgance) I like the look alot better than poles in general. However style is style, and if you have bad style it doesnt matter if you have poles or not.

Ehh I don't think poles are part of a bygone era. For tight compact rail hits in some places they are really the only way to get good speed, no way you can skate everything in. Super essential for any form of touring as well.

Not necessary everywhere though, that's forsure.

Little flipper boards are not going to let you ski faster, there's a reason downhill skiers rides 245 cm long skis and 145s for slalom. Your points are invalidate and heartcarving is dumb

id say that having some dope park poles could be more steezy than no poles, it shouldnt really matter, who gives a fuck if you have poles or not, its skiing

I like skiing without poles from time to time but for some reason I just feel like edits without poles just look so much less clean. Nothing against guys who ride without poles it's just I get the rollerblades on snow vibe. Not that there's anything wrong with that either.

I don't know I'm weird.

Yeah I agree, just my opinion but skiing without poles makes ur hands look out of place, hard to explain
