Nick Zoricic dies after an horrible crash

Anyone have any idea why all three landed so far to skiers right? I saw a lot of discussion in the youtube comments but didn't feel like reading them. Maybe someone who has some experience in skiercross have an explanation for this?

Crazy shit. I am at my friends house right now who grew up skiing at the same club as Nic. We were skiing there all week but I am glad I wasnt there today because it will be a very somber mood.

watched this on live tv earlier today. later, i was listening to radio while skiing, and it was pretty fucked up hearing that i actually died.

RIP

damn thats horrible, just so crazy its becoming so more prevalent in our sport now, I know technology and the limits are getting pushed to their limits, but in events like pipe and skier cross its just hard to believe

That was brutal to even watch. I can't imagine in person. So fast, just to hit something and stop. R.I.P.

RIP. with the utmost respect, the crash didn't look like a neck breaker. it was a bad crash but I didn't think he would have died. seemed kind of freak accident to me.

I respect your opinion. But we couldn't see up close what happened when he hit. You could see how fast he was going, and how fast he slowed down upon impact. With that impact, the fence could have screwed up his upper body/neck real bad if it twisted in it.

I know a guy whose mom died from whiplash while waiting for the lights to change; a car came a bit too fast from behind, probably only going 20km/h at time of impact, and her neck broke.

So to me, Zoridic's crash definitely looked like a breaker. Pretty brutal to watch.

Backcountry avalanche deaths, halfpipe deaths, and a racing death all in one year. Combined with the absolute lack of snow this year this is the worst season I think I've had. Vibes to Nick's family and friends, absolutely tragic.

Also, I think it may have been partly the courses fault. Notice how all 3 skiers landed to the right of the blue line. None were even close to the center of the landing. Does that show something is wrong?I apologize if I am wrong, I am not an expert on ski-cross.

The uploader of the video has the cheek to advertise a dating website in the description...

RIP. The saddest thing to me is that this looked like it would have been preventable by better course designing.

this is really horrible. stuff like this shouldn't happen. something must have been wrong with the course and why did they put a safety net there? there wasn't anything behind it for him to hit. RIP.

if you weren't born yesterday, you'd know that they do this pretty frequently and not just TSN but other networks and shows as well. it's nothing new and i personally don't have a problem with it because it was a live televised event, shit happens and honestly everyone has a bit of morbid curiosity with it (including everyone in this thread). remember the picture widely circulated of the luge racer mid-air before striking the cement pole? it happens and no one's forcing anyone to watch it.

FIS needs to inspect this and take this into consideration when planning courses, that fence should not have been there

well they kind of are forcing me to watch it when I am watching the six o clock news and they show it. I really dont need to see it and feel like they should respect both him and his family.

for those of you wondering what vid looks like: its not that bad. really surprising someone died from it. and hes moving around so its not like your looking at a dead body

I'm almost afraid of the way our sport is going. There have been soo many deaths this year, such a tragic winter for the skiing community. RIP.

man this sucks, too many skiers lost this year, totally agree about the line painting, might just be the camera angle but it looks seriously off

Whoever placed that fence there should be at fault. There needs to be FIS regulations about how far a fence must be from a landing ramp and to kind of angle it should be at to minimize damage should an accident occur
