Newschoolers vs. ReJib

this. the more its recognized, the better. its a sick site truthfully, both rejib and newschoolers have something to them that the other doesnt. Im definitely using both

I already waste enough of my time on NS, how could people possibly have the desire or time to be on both websites. If NS has it all for me in one place I don't need to add another social site to my list just because I can.

The only feature I like better than NS is the B/S/T feature. It's perfectly organized and actually formatted for Buying and Selling. I really like the picture idea, instead of many capitalized words and stars screaming Jiberish! Saga! LDC! If you ate looking for a specific item it can take a while to find it. Plus the message system is sort of janky. I'm not sure if this post made any sense, but whatever.

Yeah I'm going to go ahead and admit that their B/S/T thing is the shit. Could be a real win out of what they built here. Hell, I'm not going to pretend that I think our product is in the least bit better than this.

Hell yeah they can. Lots of people have tried this - there even used to be tonnes of other ski websites.

Remember freeskiing.com?

Freeskier tried community.freeskier.com too.

I've always said to people - NS is 150% about working with others. It just makes a huge amount of sense for us to work on different areas so we can all improve the media landscape in skiing. Fighting doesn't make sense.

i used freeskiing.com religiously before switching to ns after about a year and a half

NS won out because of the community, more people, better people, better feel, just makes it a more fun place to be

Do you recall what you liked about it better?

Do you remember if there was a specific moment/reason you decided to switch to NS?

You can see this a lot of the time on the internet. For the most part, people will put up with a little bit of crappy interface issues to side with the big community. Of course, this requires constantly rolling out new things to make sure people know you're trying to keep everything as fixed as you can.

Of course, you can also look at MySpace vs. Facebook or Digg vs. Reddit. Those were two situations where a massive migration happened fairly quickly from one site to another. MySpace screwed up becuase FB built a far superior and simpler product. Digg screwed up because they really blew it with a massive update.

I have never doubted in the slightest that we're going to start seeing people crop up to do battle with us. That is certainly one of the reasons we've started doing all of our major back-end stuff under ultra secrecy. We don't want anyone to be able to guess which of our weaknesses we're already working on fixing, and which ones we've chosen to leave unguarded for a little while longer.

I'm trying to decide if they are actually trying to attack newschoolers at its very core. 'Freeskiing's new scene' really seems like it.

I really like the site. I'd love to hear other's feedback as you guys have been using it for a few days. As well, I'd be curious to hear how you can see this fitting in as complimentary to what happens here.

There would be almost no reason for things to ever get to that. I'm a team player, and I love what they're doing. Just need to see how they want it to fit in with what we're doing and blammo we can create a wicked team.

Our whole mantra here at NS is to push the web space in skiing forward, not backward. That is why we're pushing so hard to work with others who are doing internet things - we want to grow as a group, not waste time battling each other.

Its like how it would be insane for us to put out a magazine. WHy would we bother duking it out in a space with heavy hitters like Freeskier, Powder, Ski Journal, SBC, etc? Unless we were bringing something to the market which had never been done before, and none of those other mags did... we'd be fucking idiots. We have no capacity to fight against a business that has been doing something very well for 10 years. 40 years in the case of powder.

I live by the Art of War by Sun Tzu. We don't fight in places where there's already power players by these passages:

" 9. If equally matched, we can offer battle;

if slightly inferior in numbers, we can avoid the enemy;

if quite unequal in every way, we can flee from him.

10. Hence, though an obstinate fight may be made

by a small force, in the end it must be captured

by the larger force."

-Sun Tzu

Yeah I know it's not what you're about, it would just b awesome. I could see a graphic novel being made about it

That's the point Willy. It's like saying the newsfeed of facebook is all cluttered. It's just what's goin' on.

YOU CAN'T STOP WHAT'S GOIN' ON.

They have an ad on Facebook. Wayy to mainstream. I bet noobs are gonna start making accounts there. Lets let them have their place while the real skiers (and theabortionator) stick to newschoolers.

It looks cool, and whatnot, but it's really not that groundbreaking. I suppose it's less of a forum site, as it is a profile site. Kinda like a skiing-centric version of tumblr, perhaps? I'll try it out. They should have got ads up on the site before they even went live... Losing out there.

also, I'm with Bishop. That tagline doesn't really seem welcoming, but whatever. I really don't see any serious threat to NS... It just doesn't keep my interest for long enough.

i just made a ReJib account and i kinda like how it has things popped up on the homepage. I am forever a NS user and it will always be on the top! i just kinda like that feature, except i could see how it could blow up and be obnoxious, i also think that's why their site may be slower. i no nothing about webpage designing or whatnot but oh well

i think this has potential, but the organization is absolutely horrible. the front page just looks like a cluster fuck, i'm obviously not expecting it to be as good as NS right off the bat. But i it will be interesting to see how it develops

Interesting to see Rejib come out (around Oct 16th) and get really hot feedback on their layout, then boom around 14 days later NS version 4 which has the same layout?

What do you think NS?

did you just discover Rejib?

also yes it was admitted by rednames that they copied Rejib's layout for the homepage. It inspired them so much that they made their "own" in just 96 hours
