the mega ramp with a rail on it its pretty boring because of how hard the rail is almost all of the skaters are doing 50-50s i know its mad hard but it just doesnt look that entertaining

that sounds retarded. bob burnquist did it three years ago into the grand canyon. you cant really top it. unless someone does a front board 270 indy im not planning on being impressed

dude....x-games RALLY, have you seen this shit. Its miniture auto cross, and its nothing compared to real rally. They are just running out of ideas.

It really has become an absolute fucking joke.
You know what...maybe it always was (They DID decide to name them the Extreme Games after all...that's pretty much lame personified), but I was too young to see through the nonsense.
But, if nothing else, for years the "Extreme Games" was the only sort of attention that "Action Sports" really got. Remember, back in 95-96 (when I was 13ish and at the height of my interest in inline skating) there was no youtube, or any other means of really watching people compete in these types of sports.
Sooo...even though so much of the pageantry is cringe worthy and oh so corny, and the level of ridiculousness in terms of some of the events is constantly growing (I can't for the life of me understand the popularity of freestlye moto x...I get it....everyone does backflips...I'm over it), they have gotten some things right, and it's overall enjoyable to watch. For example, I looooove the decision to make street events a jam format, as opposed to the oldschool "run" format. The jam sessions really do capture the essence of skating and riding in terms of the whole one up manship. Annnnnnd, to totally contradict myself, the megaramp issss pretty fucking sick. I just watched Dave Mira throw a dub front.....wow. Theeeen I watched it in "MEGA-MO" and I was reminded of how lame the whole affair really is.
However, I would reeeeaaaally love to see rolling come back. I would love to see haffey, farmer, shima, and co. throw down on a jam style street course. I think the general public would be willing to ease off the relentless teasing if nothing else, as the level of riding is incredibly high.

rollerbladers would do some cool stuff in that street park, I know i would. they don't want us anymore, i don't even know what really made them take it out, granted it was only half pipe, i don't remember if there was street or not. But even the pipe was pretty cool to watch.

Yea man, long before Eito and Takeshi (I'm sure I mangled the spelling(s)) dominated vert ala the Williams sisters, Inline Street was on and popping cuuuuuuz. Have to mention a few other vert legends: Chris Edwards (THE OG), Taig Chris (sp), Fabia Da Silva (sp), and pretty much a bunch of other Brazilians.
Randy Roadhouse Spizer, Arlo Eisenberg....Jon Julio......they were some of my favs and they shredded.
There was also some kid named Louie, or Luis something or other who was like the up and coming young gun who was the truth. He was Latino...maybe Puerto Rican, I can't remember.

I generally agree....I really do—trust me, I'm not a "spin to win" guy—but in this case, it really was damn impressive.
Of course, I am a "gaper" when it comes to BMX, so for all I know true BMXers think it's lame. I guess it's a good thing there's no text voting, right?

haha, the reason i don't remember street was cause i was born in 1992. i know that louie guy i can't remember his last name either. I started skating in 2002.

Do you know the real reason they got rid of blading.

hahaha....yea.....I'm only 11 years older than you, hahahaha. Man, I'm fucking old!
As far as the "whys", I think it was pure economics. Rolling was officially "uncool", and it wasn't garnering the attention or the praise that the other sports were, so they dumped it in favor of adding what seems like 34 new Moto X events, and the obnoxiously stupid and totally out of place rally car shit, in order to boost ratings and guarantee advertising support.
Ask asian_allen, he knows his rolling history. He posted a documentary on the rise and fall of rollerblading a while ago in NSG I'm pretty sure that touched on the whole issue. Arlo Eisenberg gives an interview about it, and he talks about when it went to just vert, and then I believe to just an exhibition, to finally being scratched. I can't remember the name of the flick.....Barely Dead or something?

yeah they had street it was my favorite part of X back in the day. Watching the street blading comp. anyone know why it was removed?

.....because high jump with dirt bikes is?.......skating is sick number one and for two it wasnt the same thing over and over but an inch higher for a half hour...

i think they took it slightly too far with the amputee supercross. I mean its sick what these guys are doing but they made it like a kiddie event these guys could definately keep up on a full size supercross track it looked to me that they were on a downsized motocross track.

Only when they add a slopstyle mtb course to the mix will i be happy, for now, im not watching. And serious, moto x best whip, wtf is that shit?! Surfing and wakeboarding need to come back, exiting and people will watch!

I'm really growing tired of the bitching over x games. This is NOT an event designed to cater to the core action sports communities such as the one we are all a part of. This is an event designed to get the general public into said sports. That public doesn't want to see some no name skater do some tech tricks on a hand rail, They want to see that ass hat in gardening gloves finally land a double back in MEGA MO, with Sal Masekela on the mic, set to some butt rock band. If you are trying to see the former, watch the dew tour, if that's still to mainstream, shut the fuck up.

someones gonna die in FMX soon because of the retard course designers at x. i mean its a fucking 300 lb bike and you give them like a 30 by 30 foot square to stop in.... why the fuck does that seem like a good idea?

but for people bitching about how much of a shit show it is, recall back 10 years, it was a thousand times worse. extreme shovel racing, speed climbing, all sorts of random irrelevant shit. the street courses used to be virtually unskateable, designed by idiots who wanted shit that looked good on tv, not that actually was fun or cool to ride.

and for rollerbladers, i mean honestly, just be glad you arent involved in this shit lol.

on a side note, i follow eric koston on twitter, and hes been referring to it as the x gaymes all weekend, while immature, i lol every time i read it.

big ups to danny way holy shit talk about balls going into that event with a fucked up ankle and fully blown mcl doesn't even make sense you gotta be so comfortable on your board to pull that off

im not going to lie moto x is pretty gnarly but high jump and stuff like that is dumb best trick and the run style one are atleast fun to watch and mad hard to do on a bike. rollerbladeing would be sick but the general public wouldnt like it meaning not enough money in it. so x games is just another way for a few people to get crazy rich.

haha yeah man it already is with all those gay ass rollerblading grinds that kids are trying to do. that shit needs to stop.

I heard that bob burbquist let carlos pianouski on his mega ramp, he fakie backfliped it and wasnt aloud back. id love to the yasatokos and haffey and aragon hit a mega ramp, i mean the bmxers already make skateboarding look lame imagin what the bladers could do!the guy called louies second name is zamora btw, louie zamora.

This is why the X-games are lame...

You're absolutely spot on...though it pains me to say so.
I think the reason that people feel the need to bitch and moan year after year (myself included) is because it's soooo close to satiating that craving for a "big deal" showcase for the sports we all love, yet we're ultimately just left feeling dirty after watching. Kind of like a high dollar prostitute.
What's so frustrating about the whole affair is that ESPN wastes countless hours devoting coverage to all sorts of niche, fringe sports (billiards, darts, bowling....I mean, c'mon), that it seems perfectly reasonable to expect to see a few days of legitimate action sports coverage.
I understand that ultimately Middle-America and the largely uninitiated general viewership has to be attracted and catered to, thus the MEGA MO, and the abundance of moto events, but god damn....there has to be some sort of middle ground, no?
If nothing else, why not offer EXTENSIVE on-line coverage of the events that ESPN deems less viewer friendly? I would absolutely love to see an hour of skateboard street coverage; including practice and qualifiers. On-line would also be the perfect venue to showcase inline and/or other sports that have been cut like surfing and wakeboarding...think about it:
For essentially negligible cost (same features, no additional course building—for rolling anyways), they could invite a dozen rollers to jam the street course, and broadcast it on-line. Why not? There could be regular commercial breaks, or they could make you sit a long-style ad before it started; we're talking about increasing ad revenue...why the flip not? grrr. Also, there's definitely a sizable audience interested in summer watersports...why shun those people for another fucking moto event? I just don't get it.

Xgames is stupid but it doesn't single handedly(spellchek) ruin sports. Big air ski was the biggest joke I have ever seen but we all still ski and enjoy it. Where do people get these crazy ideas that a sport is going to be ruined?

not in x, but jeremy lusk died in some event in mexico(?) i think, trying his Hart Attack lookback indian air backflip. there used to be youtube clips of it, but i cant find them anymore, i think they took them all down

I agree...in no way do these silly events "ruin" the sport, but for me, they do represent an exploitation, and worse still, a squandered opportunity to put on a dope showcase for the sport.

the freestyle moto best trick was a joke this year..

The same guy won with the same trick he did last year. Someone did a fucking 360 no handed some shit and it was never seen before and he didn't win

Zamora! Yeeessss....that kid had dirty mid/late nineties style. Thank you, not being able to think of his name was irking the shit out of me.

It's absolutely fucking retarded! I mean, holy shit, who cares?

But moto x best trick could have been impressive if everybody didn't crash. Pastrana is still a bad ass.

Megaramp skateboarding is getting lame. All those old guys do is 360 to 540 on the QP. they've been doing that shit since the beginning and its getting old. When is somebody gonna sack up and try something good?

They should get rollerblading back and have them do mega ramp. I think that would be sick to watch. Its funny that they removed blading later on added such a lame competition as biggest whip of highest jump. ITS THE SAME TRICK OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!

except the facts that you're an idiot, it got minimum coverage, rollerblading was removed because little people watched it and whips are the sickest things ever on a dirt bike....

funny how so many people call x-games gay but are pissed that rollerblading isn't in it...

so watching grown men whip their moneymakers repeatedly in the same motion over and over again until you are satisfied isnt gay?

excuze me for wanting some variety!

rollerblading isn't in because it's lame when compared to motocross and skating. No offense to bladers, some of the stuff they do is hard but they are going to do the events that will help make the most money in the long run. Motocross and skateboarding have a huge industry with the most money to throw around. Easy as that. Rollerblading's industry isn't nearly as big.

Hardly... one guy tried a 7 and crashed, that kid adam taylor was trying a pretty cool cork/flip but couldn't seem to land it, and as for switch stuff, bob burnquist did a switch 180 every single one of his runs. I'm sure that its incredibly hard, but its just not that fun to watch 360 to 180 or 5 in the quarter pipe practically every single run.

i agree that xgames has been getting pretty boring lately and the whole factor of doubles is impressive and is a step we had to take but now i just think its getting kinda lame. but i have to give props to bmx that shit surprises me alll the time especially that new cash roll or wat not. also, dh and mountain biking should be in xgames those guys can seriously throw down.
