I can't believe you missed the point on my hate towards that ESPN article so much. Really?

I mean I could give two shits if we're the SECOND (because I got it wrong in my first post) best humor site on the internet for skiing. What pissed me off was that they gave no recognition to COMMUNITY sites - I clearly stated both TGR and EpicSki as well. Sure NS fits into that, and its my area of expertise, but I 100% was mad about the community aspect more than anything else.

Its about journalistic integrity. Site like ESPN claims to be a major media source, employing solid journalists, and they come up with shoddy facts like missing the most major segment of websites in an entire sport when judging websites in an entire sport? Laughable.

Me supporting these boys in this endeavour as well has nothing to do with the opinion of Newschoolers. If you just got on the site in the last 6 months you might think that, but if you've been here for longer I've been pretty dormant over the last two or so years. I've been in the background dealing with the business of NS, and most importantly letting the community speak their mind.

We've always been about listening to the community, and we've always been about letting the community's opinion guide us. On this point its no different - I'm not locking this thread, I'm not closing it down, and I'm not pulling any industry tricks... I'm just stating my opinion on the matter. My opinion is mine, and the beauty of Newschoolers is it doesn't influence anyone else. Sure you could argue that some people listen to me, but usually that is because I make well-researched and generally well-thought out points.

The absolute best part of Newschoolers is no one person can ever have the only opinion. Its one long endless debate about who is right, and that is the absolute best part of it.

Please get it right though, I was merely discussing on TGR stating the same opinion here and arguing with facts. Unofficial I was just trolling because the comments there are probably the most childish place I've ever encountered on the internet.

I like a good debate about something. I believe in certain things, and I stand for them. Just like you do. What is really fucking rad is that we have a place like this where we can voice those opinions and duke it out. Much better than the old days where a company could pitch the same image, buy a print ad in a magazine that was a bunch of filter papers and not have anyone say anything.

Newschoolers is the best place in the world because the people in an industry truly have an opinion.

I'm deeply saddened that you would try to make a post accosting me for sharing my beliefs, even if they may be counter to popular opinion, or even the opinion of our business. Believe me, supporting this is not a safe business move.

How could you possibly sit there from your chair and berate me for giving a god honest opinion of the situation, and engaging in real conversation with real people who ski?

I also will finally say, if its such a joke, please leave. PLEASE. We're doing just fine here at Newschoolers, and we don't need people that hate it. If it sucks, there are many other totally awesome places on the internet to go.

You didn't like what I was saying on TGR but this point I completely agree with you on. BUT, there's a difference between not conforming and just acting like idiots. Expressing yourself in your own way and not giving a fuck what other people think is legit, but acting like you are something you aren't isn't any better than conforming. You can "do your own thing" and "not conform" and not be a douche wannabe thug. Honestly, this goes more for all white people wannabe gangsters as a whole more than just the guys in this video. Def a funny ass edit overall til they started shooting out street signs out of the car (which is actually not even that bad compared to the random shooting into foggy ass fields). If they had pulled up in a BMW, actually done some legit drifting, and pulled a couple AKs out of the trunk and maybe shot at some explosives or some shit, people would think its a little more legit and not just thinking they are morons...

TGR is fucking rad and they hate the shit out of this. YOu belong there, and its a really, really, really awesome site.

This site isn't about me anyway. I'm just one person in a massive community, and my voice means nothing more than the rest of you. I've gone through painstaking measures over years to make sure this site is never about only one person.

I can see you took my last post very personally. I don't believe I ever insulted you for anything you have ever posted on this site. I was just saying that as a man with such power, what you say carries more weight than just about any other member who could post in this thread or in any other skiing forum. Your name is synonymous with NS and so, often ,when you express your opinion, it is written off as the opinion of all NSers.

I thank you for all you have done for this website and the atmosphere that you have promoted of free speech. I agree with everything you said about NS. Never did I talk badly about this community in my posts. I never said NS was a joke, ever. I said the NS community is sometimes looked at as a joke by others in the online skiing community. I could not disagree with this belief more.

The reason I disagree with you about the video is the same point that everyone is getting so worked up about. That point is, is that not all voices carry the same strength, especially online where things can travel very fast and reach a large number of people. If I were to make a post in a TGR forum or make this video, it would not get seen/read by as many people as if you were to post or FD wear were to make a video. For this reason, when a person with more power shares their opinion, it is looked at much more critically and is often applied to a greater audience. Just as if this video reached an old ski patrol member, their opinion of park skiers may be changed or when you post on TGR or Unofficial, that opinion may be viewed by some who read it as a shared view by all NSers. I know this is not your intention or the intention of those at FD wear, but that is the way it is.

Please do not beg me to leave Newschoolers though, I like it too much here and you can ban me if you really want me to leave (but I know you will not because of the beliefs you hold about free speech, especially those in your last post...part of why I love this place.)

I do not know how you can truely believe your voice has the same power as every other member of this website. That is what really gets me.
 
I support free speech. I don't think anybody is arguing for censorship or against free speech. At all. To even bring free speech into it has nothing to do with it. Its just as simple as they think they are cool, some other people do too, and most people seem to think they are idiots.

I don't make enough money per post to make a difference. As well, supporting first drop is not going to make NS rich. If I was arguing about The North Face or Vitamin Water, then hell yes, sure we're makin' fat bank.

However, this opinion is 100% mine. I'm very much risking the public opinion of the company, as most people can't differentiate my opinion from that of Newschoolers.

If your'e someone that enjoys an intelligent conversation, then you should drop the rage and read between the lines of what I post. I'm not a stupid person in any way, and hold intelligence in the absolute highest regard. I also like Newschoolers because there is a very real community here, which for some odd reason is very unlike any other. When you can see through the bullshit, you can get an incredible amount of insightful conversation going.

You and I differ in views on this issue for sure, but if you like smart people you can't possibly want everyone to share your same opinion. Debate is the spice of life, and I'm doing my best to spit debate topics with responses like 'you are probably just doing this to make money...'

You know what? lets go hard facts on this one.

Newschoolers sells ads on a CPM basis. This means "Cost per Thousand" impressions. IMpressions are ad units. We're here in the forums, and we're rocking one 728x90 and one 160x600 ad unit at the top and right of these posts.

This year, those ads sold out at say an average of about $3 CPM per spot. We don't have much of a fill rate right now, as its later in the season, so lets say even on the high side that we're running $2 CPM per spot.

Two spots on a page means that every 1,000 times this thread is viewed, Newschoolers makes $4.

At a current 7350 views on this thread, we have grossed a whopping $29.40.

Since it has taken me the better part of two days to argue this issue, it would be considered not only bad business to be doing this, but totally insane.

So really - I'm just passionate about my opinion.

 
There is a difference between supporting the idea of free speech, and getting behind an idiot opening his mouth.

Just because the constitution protects your right to say something stupid, does not make you any less of an idiot for doing so.

I was there to defend the originality of our sport, but you where there to defend your "friends". 4bi9 wrecks shit when they get drunk and ski like bosses... its funny (probably not to you). GBP is a bunch of delinquent douches who wreck shit when they are drunk and are alright at snowborading, but its not funny because they are actually serious (you probably think this is a funny "joke" edit). If the reres over at GBP have enough sense to shoot their guns in the BC and not on public roads in Breck, what does that tell you about the intelligence of FD? I do agree with you that the sport is better when we are original, but when FD is too caught up in your fantasy world to be funny, that is when you have lost touch with the main reason why we all ski.

Notice how 4bi9's edit did not cause such a ruckas, thats because it was quality. There was no need to defend the shit they did because they were all "joking" (notice how I quote it because my definition of "joking" is not the same as yours). There was not quality in this fake piece of shit edit and that is why you are trying so hard to justify it against the rest of us. It is unfortunate that your skewed perception of your friends is so overpowering, but if you can join the rest of NS and see that this is not funny, we are willing to reaccept you.

I don't care if NS accepts me. Hell if NS chews me up, spits me out and pisses on me, then I will defend its decision of that to the death. I'll keep this place alive and hammering, built off of the opinions of the people that make it up. If they do not wish to agree with me, then fuck it disagree with me. The 4bi9 shit is rad, I fully agree. That is why its an NSTV production and we're supporting it fully.

I'm never, ever, ever saying one thing is better than all else, I'm defending variety, individuality and the right of every skier to represent themselves however the fuck they want.

As well, don't think that my perception of friends has anything to do with this. I'm a professional through and through, and yes I know the FD Wear crew, but my relationship with them in this thread is simply because I know they aren't doing reckless things (because I checked) and frankly I think everyone is really, really, really over-reacting.

If you weren't over-reacting to something fanatical, I could have dropped this thread a bazillion years ago.

That was mostly irrelevant to this discussion, but bringing up the 4bi9 edit made me think of it.

I guess I also don't really understand why people find watching others get drunk entertaining either. I found the 4bi9 pretty boring once the skiing ended.

It would probably make it a whole lot easier to laugh at it, if it was actually funny.

I am not saying that begin crude and irresponsible can not be funny, hell look at how the Unofficial crowd started, but the FD video was just dumb, did not laugh once, just shook my head at their stupidity, and the amount of cloths FD failed to sell this last year.

but his skiing is great.

I think we all can agree that the skiing in that movie was pretty damn entertaining.

hell even the half naked girl the grillz and the plane are all cool, the crazy drifting was slightly over the top but i wouldnt have bitched about that.

what gets me is the guns, and the horrible misuse of them. it is just sad to see that these assholes think that doing such is "cool".
