word to this, i love rolling j's and l's for the same reason, it's fun. it's an art, and it's always cool to compare rolling styles with others'

Its like the simplest shit in the world. A diffuser is just a downstem with additional little hole on the sides, it "diffuses" the smoke through these smaller holes to catch more gunk. A percolator is just another little water chamber that the smoke passes through, its just there to catch more gunk as well and make the smoke slightly smoother.
In all honestly I've been around all this stuff for a long time. All those high end name brand bongs are a huge waste of money. I have a bong very similar to the one pictured and we rarely ever use it anymore, its such a hassle to clean, fill up with the right amount of water, and it gets dirty so quick that its more a hassle than its worth. That coupled with the fact that I get much stronger hits just out of my single tube bong, makes it that I regret buying the higher end one.
So yea, don't be dragged in by all the glassware hype, I was a couple of years ago and I'm $450 poorer as a result. Just get a decent single tube with a diffuser downstem and you're solid. Don't spend more than $100.
 
This kid is interested in high end glass. If you only want to spend 80-100 on heady glass youll get a slide.
 
Pro tip: fill it with very warm water instead of cold water and ice. emphasis on warm, you don't wanna crack your bong by throwing in boiling water. Hits super smooth, and soothes your lungs way more than that freezing air
 
Impressionable? Its not like I'm basing that on just what I hear people say, and I'm not some young kid. Like I said, I have used high end glass, and I've also used everything from $80 glass to $15 acrylics. I wouldn't call it naivety either. Yes, I lack technical knowledge, but my experiences don't lie. Like I said, I wouldn't have believed it before I tried it. Its called preference. It tends to vary from person to person.
Anyway, It seems like the basic concept of that stuff is actually pretty simple, it just seems like there lots of different types of the same things that would presumably function slightly differently. When I say intimidating, I mean that if I was to go into a head shop for example, I would just feel uncomfortable/out of place looking at that stuff because I just wouldn't really know enough to actually know what I was looking for. Might be kinda dumb but whatever.

Maybe I've just gotten so used to smoking that I don't really care that much anymore. I understand the novelty of smoking out of an expensive piece, watching the smoke bubbles pass through the percs and all that. Makes it more of a social thing and its a way to impress your homies, I've been there. One thing to keep in mind though if you do buy a piece with percs, do not buy a bong with domed percs (aka PHX), make sure you get the tree percs. You'll know the difference because tree percs usually have three separate downward pointing "branches" that the smoke passes through.
 
I definitely appreciate the effort, thanks man. Different strokes I guess. As for the percs, good to know, thats exactly the kind of thing I was talking about. I would have had no idea. I take it the tree percs must function better. Is that just as a result of the obvious design differences?
 
My Illadelph died this weekend - And I'm heartbroken. She was a beaker bottom straight shooter, no percs.

I'm now looking for a replacement piece, under $260. I was thinking about getting a WeedStar Smellchecker and putting on a showerhead A/C if I can find a good one. Also considering HiSi (company I'd never heard of before this weekend), they've got some really crazy looking percs and look pretty nice. Suggestions please
 
That looks so yummy. Some of my most amazing highs have been a couple hits from a bong its such a fun high. My buddy and i have a small bong that we stash in our sometimes when we go skiing. I really hope we don't get pulled over...
 
That first snap destroyed me. Thats my dorm room and to remove (some) of the smell we exhale thru a sploof. I toasted a full fatty and when i cleared it realized the sploof was not in reaching distance, held it in looking for it and by the time i found it i was baked hahaha.
 
so me and my roomates had this sick bong... ill upload pics later. basically it was about 22 inches tall, 6 arm perc, 6 mm glass, beaker base. also a toro snap bowl and diffuser ash catcher piece. all in all it was close to 300 bucks split between 5 people so it was an investment for sure. some drunk bitch broke the bottom of it on saturday night after a little over 2 months of use, i have been crying ever since. fuck bitches

this is exactly what i was worried about. i was thinking of buying a nice bong but was worried that it wouldnt be worth all that cash, so ya i didnt end up buying it. now, hearing someone else say this im just relieved i didnt buy anything ahaha.

and honestly, now, i'd rather just smoke a spliff than hit a bong. i find it so much more chill cus i actually enjoy the whole routine with rolling it and going out for a walk or just smoking it while watching tv and shit. and i find i actually enjoy the high i get from a joint more than the one i get from hitting a bong

Need some advice, really don't know much about decent glass, I've never hit anything super nice before. I'm looking at getting a bong/bubbler/something to add on to my vaporizer as an attachment and also be good to use for just smoking to. I came across this guy online and he seems like a good guy and is just running everything out of his house so I figured I'd support him rather than one of the shops around here(Denver). So, he has this ice catcher guy in stock right now, and I was wondering if this is a decent price? If it isn't, any recommendations for what I can add on to my Silver Surfer?

No way dude that's shitty china glass for that amount of money you could get a fantastic sg or some other similar high end glass. Dint be fooled by cheap percs, they're just draggy gimmicks. Checkout aqualabtechnologies.com for the goods.

most of all, do not be fooled by cheap chinese percs. everyones initial thought when they get their first glass is that they want as many percs/a/c's/gimmics as they can get, but chinese stuff will be poorly constructed and draggy. youre better off with a non diffused straight tube from a reputable american blower, than that 4 foot green tinted quad perc with 2 ashcatchers youve been eyeing up at the local headshop.
 
This for sure. Honestly unless its a quality euro or north american blower than percs are not even worth it. Not to mention youll break your china piece way faster. My illadelph straight tube rips way smoother than my china piece with a 9 arm.

Anybody ever used an i-olite? I just picked one up 2 days ago. Its pretty nuts for a portable vape.
 
hahha i bought a bong that was 5 inches tall... in my defence i was high when i bought it, and i thought it would be funny. its pretty much a deformed bubbler.
 
does anybody have a good way to clear all the shit out of a bowl? ive scrubbed it and soaked it in rubbing alch and salt water and all that but its still not as clear as i hoped itd be
