ok, i am a pretty good skier, but i want to learn how to do rails, i've heard that the best thing to do is build my own small rail and practice in my backyard. if anyone has any ideas on building a rail, or points for getting started, please help me!

commit.. turn 90 degrees, keep your bases flat and your weight forward, focus on the end of the rail, stay balanced, don't move unless it is necessary, don't get scared, and commit, commit.. and uhh commit.. that should help.. the main thing is just going out there and charging it, even if you eat shit, just get up and try it again and learn from how you died last time

Smoking pot leads to uhh... I forget.

What time is it... saturday?

find a PVC pipe and set it in the snow, wear wrist guards(I hurt my wrist bad falling off a rail)

^ Definately Jump and turn 90 IN THE AIR- I've just learned the rails in the last 2 years or so, but they are definately easier if you Pop really big on tho them, and, this might just be for me, but i find, the faster you are going, the easier. -- Oh yah- keep looking at the end- don't get distracted

the thing i think that helps people is first try sliding small rails on the ground, slick benches,or even plastic ski lodge benches first, with SKI BOOTS ON. I did this my first time on a small rail i ran up 2 it and slid it and got the hang of what turning 90 and grinding stuff, how to keep weight 'slightly' foward, (ull know what i mean) and then tried it on skis. have confidence when you jump.

My brothers already had several rails, but they built a small one or so feet high one so that i could learn, and that they could learn more stuff on rails. It is a wood frame.. and PVC is the best slippy thing for rails. Just commit, turn the full 90 degrees, dont drag your back ski, keep your weight distributed equally to each leg... and about everything that the first poster said. (I dont feel like repeating him) I just learned too, so it can be done. Just have fun, and dont do anything stupid... because then you hurt yourself.

Don't try to slow down on the rail. your edges won't grab and your skis will just slide out from under you. also, it is def. easier to start on like a 4' flat rail or a double round or something
