My view on God

I don't really want to answer this post because its completely idiotic and i hope it's a joke, But yeah...plates shift and hit together and create mountains, powder is frozen water that falls from the sky...science can explain mostly anything.......

..........

...............

...................really hope that post wasn't a joke kinda.

I don't know why I can't qupte your message but,

If your view is based on the notion that "we are equal to God" and that prayers are "favors" than I think you slept through all the religious education you have ever had. Where the fuck did you come up with that shit? After I read those two things your whole idea is garbage in my opinion.

And now for my view on religion, and God...

Like many others in this thread, I'm a hardcore atheist, and I can't bring myself to believe in a single god. For one thing, the whole single god thing is relatively new in human history, because until Jewish and Muslim times, people believed in MANY gods (Greeks/Romans, Pagans, etc.), So why would there be a single god suddenly? What sparked the single-god mania? Also like somebody said earlier, all the contradictions of the Bible and stuff really don't help God's case.

On the other hand, the lifestyles promoted by most religions of good-will and leading a good life are totally legit, but the basis upon which they are set is just an easy way out of rational thinking. If people would take a step back, take their minds out of the parentally and societaly programmed religious mindset, they would realize the almost definate impossibility of a perfect, all knowing, clairvoyant god.

I completely agree with the guy who says people who believe in god are lesser human beings. also, what's the point in telling god you went to the subway? if he's god he already knows. infact what's the point in praying at all, if he's god he knows what you want!

reciprorcal altruism, or just altruism, on a cellular level, and amongst human beings(you scratch my back, i scratch yours, for those who dono what altruism is) in the long run creates a need for religion. because religion cerates morality, and wihout morality what we consider society does not exist. so though i am not a part of organized religion, i do believe we need it. and politicians need it for control.

how does altruism create a need for religion? The way I see it, it makes religion obsolete.

And, come on. in the educated west today religion is hardly a great tool for controlling the people.

Who says God fixes the bad? In my opinion, he doesn't interfere with everyday life. And he definitely doesn't send down pigeons to tell us how to sort out a love situation.

Millions of people around the world. Thats one of the reasons why I see it as so fucked. People who claim to have true devotion to "their lord" really couldn't give two shits about him. They just use religion to get out of sketchy situations. Whether it works are not is debatable.

Millions of people say "pray for change" or something along those lines. They can't expect a supernatural being to fix flaw and say they are 0% critical at the same time. That is simply a contridiction.

But he is "God" isn't he? When juxtapositioned to a mortal, God apparently can do anything no questions asked. I got the same kind of answer from desiplinary parenting when I was young. Seems religion is just some bullshit to keep people in line. Something to say "if we don't catch you, you know who will, hint hint"

Of course many people attain religious expression and personal rightiousness for thier own state of mind, for a peaceful place in their world. I have nothing against this, for it is based on control and spite.

And while many family and friends of mine take part in organized religion, I would like to state that they are not bad people. I do not dislike a person just because of their religious belief (as long as its a sane one. otherwise, I will make fun of them). I do not believe a person who attends church is a bad person. They have their own reasons and its their right as a human being to make that decision.

to believe in the big bang requires "faith" just like religion does. both theories depend on the existence of an uncaused cause. what caused the big bang? It just happened. what caused god? He's just there.

The only rational belief is agnosticism- there may or may not be a god; but, we can't know either way.

i agree with some of that but god doesnt show emotions like we do, he likes to have us talk to him through prayer, sort of the same with your friends, imagine spending a whole day with your friends without talkin at all....prayer can be asking for things but it is also used to give thanks, trust me if he had the power to create us he wont get annoyed by things we ask for

Normally I don't have a problem with other people's beliefs, but you are seriously a fucking moron. MAYBE the thread creator is wrong, but how the fuck do you know? Back up your bullshit with maybe some reasoning and logic, then we'll take you seriously.

How is a belief based on rational understanding wrong? There might have been a god, we'll never prove it, end of story. How is that a wrong belief?

That was stupid. They're wrong because they don't "commit" to a side? Because one kind of agnosticism is the belief that it cannot be proved, thus rendering the entire idea proposterous?

That doesnt make any sense. His only reasoning for this is a dumb analogy to "disprove there is a flying teapot in the galaxy"

i guess i need to read that chapter again. i thought he did a great job on showing why being agnostic is silly. i read that goddamn book a year ago though.

for all I know I could've misinterperated it. But it just seemed he was using the "Does a bear shit in the woods?" defense to prove a point.

I think agnosticism is the most rational one. Its just the belief that its stupid to get so upset over it, or try to prove one side versus another. We can't prove anyhing, so theres no point in trying.

But to say God created mountains and snow and all that is total bullshit. Science has proved every occurence on earth and many in space, its just a question of where it all came from.

alright, so here is how i see shit.

god might not of created snow and mountains, science okay i accept that. but what about mass and planets? big bang theory, okay i can accept that as well. but that little ball of energy that was used in the big bang theory...what created that? where did all of that energy come from to create mass and space? to my knowledge, nobody has ever explained that. i think that is what god created. but then, what created god? the questions can go on forever and noone will ever know. maybe you will when you die, or maybe you wont....

The Bible is a fucking joke, i believe in a God, but no in the way that the Bible describes Him, as well as Jesus, etc....

it's not meant to be taken literally. And it was written by humans a long time after Jesus, so there is bound to be some mistakes or exaggerations.

Are you serious? Everyone that i know that considers them self a true Christian is in love with the Bible and believes every story in it to be true. I can't even discuss it with my girlfriend, she gets so upset that i don't believe the Genesis and other parts of the Bible

I'd also like to add that i STRONGLY dislike the Missionaries and such that travel to spread the Christian faith, for many reasons.

This thread automatically proves that god in fact does not exist because if he did he would smite all the nay sayers and sentence them to an eternity in a hell where ski-bladers and gapers rule all.

Don't blame the positive message of religion. Blame the stupid assholes who blow it out of proportion and use it to their advantage. These people give religion a bad name. While I am in no way religious, I do not disrespect the concept. So what, even if they PROVE religion is bullshit, that wont matter. Religion reigns in the heart of the people who support it. As long as they believe in its teachings and have better lives because of it, who gives a shit of its real?

Some people only choose to take examples from proven events or facts, and some choose to take examples from moralist fables and faiths. Either way, the soul intensions are for good (with the exception of the manipulating bastard higher-ups; see example above) and thats all that matters.

i think that god wants you to talk to him like a friend. god wants you to act the same way around everyone therefore not being a hipocrit because you should talk to your friends the same way you would your parents. I dont think god gets annoyed by peoples prayers thouhg because it says in the bible that you should always pray because that is the talent that every human being is given.
