My view on God

in all seriousness, some people actually live their lives based on the teachings and morals of it. Some newer copies of the book include an extensive foreword by Chuck about his findings and the people hes met who have been influenced by that book. They have actually done a lot of the shit in that book. People can live by whatever they want, Im not suprised on bit.

And I am bummed how people take the bible literally. Of course it was written back when the average person was smarter than a scented candle, so naturally they made the assumption that people would reasonably understand its metaphorical morals and teachings. Once again, mankind's decreasing intelligence has caused war, famine, and distress all because of a fucking book.

In 400 years people are going to be worshipping the new Harry Potter book. Count on it.
 
haha i saw like 200 hobbits at walmart the other night waiting for midnight. but the catholic churches greed caused famine, war, and distress. not the book itself. if christian ever followed the book then those wars would have never happened. Jesus wanted peace for humanity.
 
what reason do we have to trust in anything? why not jump off a hundred foot cliff and see if you survive? if you use induction to formulate an argument (as in, it has happened in the past, therefore it will happen in the future) you cannot say that chance is the meaning behind everything that happens. This argument is circular. Its like saying, "you can trust me because I don't tell lies".
 
bahahah. mountains were created when the supercontinents of laurasia and gondwana were shifting (as well as tectonic plates) and colliding over time. when they gradually collided the earth's crust was forced up=mountains. you learn that stuff when you're in 5th grade.

powder, aka, snow, is a form of precipitation: weather. weather doesn't evolve from anything.

you can't lean on the bible as an explanation for something that can be proved scientifically.
 
how the heck were those created then. and you cant say the big bang because that hasnt been proved ther is still a lot to figure out for that to be true

Its a fucking movie man, The Bible is perfect in every sense, it never contradicted itself even though it was written by over 40 different authors, which is a miracle itself... and so god created us so he is not annoyed if we pray to him, he wants us to communicate with him and let him know how we are feeling
 
What.

The bible is filled with contradictions, and besides, the fact that what maybe hundreds of people wrote and contributed to a document doesnt give it holy reverence because of its lack of errors. It just had many many editors, and many many versions to have errors corrected.

do u even know why you get ur prayers answered? because you think that the whole asking just once in a while shit works. so you believe in it a lot and really rely on it and it happen. god isnt some holy figure that we worship and ask. its just another name for a force that attracts things that we deeply want.

Here's what i think... I think that some organized religion is corrupted. However, the media does a very good job of only showing the Christian denominations/churches that are.

Also, religious life isn't just about the morals. They're more like products of the religious life.

 
Take church for example. People think they have to kiss god's ass, sing about him, tell stories about him, all just to be accepted by him. Obviously theres people who go because they truly love him but some just go out of fear.

"If I dont go to church, I'll go to hell." Thats the sort of thing Im talking about. Church donations? give me a break. yeah you can ask for donations, but they make you feel guilty as if you were turning your back on god if you didnt give those guys money.

Organized religion takes advantage of your guilt and fear of spending eternity in sufferage.

Its the same kind of think your older brother tells you to mess with your head. He makes up some crazy character, a consequence for the disobedient, and it is all targeted to benefit him. Religion was created to keep people in line. Even people thousands of years ago distorded its laws for beneficial reasons.

And now this whole organized religion thing is just a manifestation of it. Most people who regularly attend church don't even know why. They only go because they were raised to go. They never stopped to think "what the fuck does sitting on my ass in this place have to do with me living a life of self righteousness?"

I rest my case.
 
These are just a few thoughts on ur points of belief:

1. People that go to Church just to be good are fakes. God is chill but those are ppl who want to be accepted in society-some are fake tho which is sad.

2.Church donations is how the pastor gets paid. No church donations= no money. Its your own conscience, and some pay more than others, but you are really only supposed to give 10% of your income a year.

3. I sort of agree with this point.

5. It isnt your outward appearance- in going to church and all that crap- it is what you believe inside, who you accept as god, and who is in control. If youve seen left behind, youd see in the rapture (in the movie) that the pastor wasnt taken: a good guy, humble, looked like a christian, but didnt accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

This is just what I believe (christianity obviously) . I am totally not smashing on you or this, as different people believe in different things. I am just showin you my thoughts on some of em. I am totally not hating on that post either. I think its interesting on what different people think
 
god is chill? how do you even know that. read the book of job. and god only listens to your prayers if you're in church? how do you reconcile that
 
dude thats exactly what Im saying. Theres nothing wrong with believing in religion, Christianity especially. If it brings you some peace of mind then I say go for it! I'm talking about the whole organized religion thing (church, donations, blah blah)

and the pastor does use that to get paid, but that doesnt change the fact that he's guilt tripping you into paying his wage. Like I said, I will not be scared or intimidated into a belief. I do not need religion to bring peace of mind to my life. I have no need for any religion whatsoever.

yea i get mad about all the posers who claim they are christians- sometimes even be hypocritical- but not have God in their heart.

Yea it takes a good pastor to not guilt-trip you into paying. I mean, that is how he gets paid so he is totally depending on God to provide him the money. SOme pastors are gay about that and they usually end up having to shut down the church
 
wait...god gives him the money? i always thought that it was the preacher giving monthly sermons on if you don't give your 10% you aren't a good christian, and the silly people trying to buy a nonexistant gods love

 
no when I say God provides the money, I mean like thru the congregation. And no thats false. The preacher doesnt tell the ocngregation to pay him. It is all on your own will. 10% really isnt that much, and to tell you the truch, i only pay once a month, and so do my parents. no you arent a bad christian if you dont give offering, but like if your a true real christian thats not dirt poor, you will naturally give 10% so that your church doesnt shut down...
 
you just contradicted the bible. unlike most rational thinkers i've read the bible. it says more or less, pay your tithes, if you don't its a sin. and since when is 10 grand not that much money. thats what my fuckass parents gave to the church last year.

and your church must be one of the few but most churches i've gone to don't say "give the church money" they just give sermons about how giving is a good christian thing
 
This thread is great and has made me think about my life and my relationship with god alot. Im gonna be thinking about this for a while.
 
show me some contradictions, and dont give me that shit from that website taking words out of context and saying they contradict each other.....and do you know how much time it would take to take each verse and break it down piece by piece....and one more thing, the bible is the oldest book known to man, for the bible not to be lost/forgotten/or eliminated is crazy

just to throw this out there too, have you ever gone skiing and when your at the top of the mountain just said to yourself, wow this is astonishing, i just think it is ludacris how anyone can think there is no god who is all powerful who created the earth, same goes with the grand canyon, the grand canyon is a miracle in itself too.....and for the last thing, us and our bodies still leaves man puzzled, if you dont believe me, go to bodyworld i think that is what it is called, its a place where they show you the insides of our bodies and how complex everything is whether it is the heart/nerves/eyes etc....its some pretty amazing stuff
 
If I have a message for anyone who's deeply thinking about some of the issues that have been raised in this thread, I think that I would ask them to really spend a good long while thinking about this and what you truly believe. No matter what you decide upon believing, just be sure of your convictions and confident in your reasoning for thinking so.
 
no. i haven't thought about that. The mountains were made by tectonic plates coliding together. the grand canyon was formed by erosion, not a miracle. let me say that again. EROSION. Water is a very powerful thing. and our bodies are so complex because we have evolved that way over hundreds of thousands of years. i think in that amount of time we might be able to develop some crazy physical characteristics. People need to think a little bit more for themselves rather than relying on a single book to get all of their answers and calling everyone wrong (not that you were personally) for not believing so.
 
okay let me put it this way

scientists think that the universe just appeared out of nowhere (no the big bang is not proved)

and religious people believe something along these lines: except with variations depending on religion

but god created the earth in 7 days and then made adam and eve to fornicate together.

both are wrong and both are right. its not really important whether its wrong or right, but whether it benefits your life in some way to believe either a. there is some scientific explanation for existence, or b. there is some god explanation for existence. in more simple words: whatever floats your boat..
 
read what else i've said. i read what he said, and it hasn't changed anything i believe. i haven't believed in god since i was in middle school, and going to a catholic college hasn't changed this.
 
there are some long winded responses here. My only questions is...what do you have to lose? I mean, if all the christians are wrong...then you don't lose anything. If they are right, you have everything to gain.

But seriously, I think there is a lot to lose. If you believe in something just because of the possible consequences if you dont... would that be real faith anyways?

Reality Check: Earth is heaven. You are living in the only heaven you are going to ever see. Im not going to waste my whole life worshipping something that is not even there. Until God comes out of the sky and says hello to me, Im not believing in him. If you think spirits exist, how come you never see ghosts? Did you not catch the big Pastor scandal last week where they were all caught fucking kids in the ass and had to pay some 600 K(which is fucking nothing at all really) to save their credibility ? So would god forgive a pastor for that? bhahahah
 
i dono, i believe some of that, but its pretty fucking shady how one kid came out and was like. a priest molested me, and then suddenly ike thousands of people were like.. yea, priests molested me too!!
