My theory of why SOPA won't pass.

What do politicians want most out of people? Votes. What's gonna get people to vote for them? Doing what the people want. What do the people want? Not SOPA.

Bing bang boom internets still cool.

Stupid thread, I know. But lets discuss anyways.

and sopa and pipa provide millions in lobby money to said politicians which is why these bills are even in congress in the first place

Not that hard to understand really. Music and media industries support politicians through campaign donations, in return, ludicrous bills like SOPA are brought to the floor.

Why do you think this bill is in congress right now? Because congress thought it would be a good idea? Every bill and law has financial backing from lobbyists. The main people behind sopa are big movie companies who are some of the greediest people in the world. They make millions of dollars on every movie these studios pump out and now they want to eliminate the 1% of the audience for receiving the movie via pirating. They can't shut down torrents, they can't shut down piracy, so they're deciding to take away our freedom so that they can make more money. It's fucking ridiculous. These huge studios are pumping millions into lobbyist in washington to get this bill pass, when it first came out people didn't even know what was going on, they got it rushed through congress by forking out more cash. Luckily, the public is fighting back and congress is starting to realize how bad it would be to enact sopa and pipa. If they pass, I will have lost all faith in humanity and can only hope that ways to get around it come quickly.

I'd like to hear Ron Paul's opinion on it, whether he'd view it as necessary to avoid rampant piracy and damage to corporations, or as a draconian measure. Of all the republican candidates he's the only one I could see viewing it as draconian.

Which is why politicians jump on this kind of shit. When they're getting money, they'll do whatever is necessary to keep getting said money. One, because they're greedy fucks, and two, because campaigns nowadays cost unseen amounts of money to successfully run

Which, thanks to citizens united, can be payed by corporations. Disgrace to democracy if you ask me.

Well this is true people need to say they dont want it to pass...unlike my friend who wont stop playing skyrim for the 2 minutes it takes to call your rep/senator

What scares me most about these bills is that there is so much money behind them. Politicians really don't give a fuck about votes because incumbents in Congress basically win again, so votes really aren't that valuable. However, the money that they can get from the lobbyists is incredible and that's what they want. If they were worried about votes Congress wouldn't be as shitty as it is.

My theory on how to never need to wipe:

Eat lots of nuts, lettuce and soy products like Cliff bars. Don't drink any alcohol. Don't eat any dairy. When you go to shit, elevate your feet up about 2 feet, if your toilet is across from a shower/tub combo this works perfect, elevate your feet on that. Once sitting in the correct position, push the shit out as hard and fast as you can, you are limited to 7 seconds of pushing, and when it comes out and you get that feeling that you clinched and some went back in, don't push it back out. You won't need to wipe, or wipe once and you will see no shit!

This is how you save the environment, one shit at a time.

and if every single person switched to e-bills we could save even more trees!

then if every person stopped eating wood fried pizza, delicious as it is, we could save more

so e-bills, anti-wood fried pizza and a new way to shit.......by 2009 we will have improved the air quality to the level it was during 1850 prolly

Actually do this, not gonna lie. It like lines up your colon in the exact position for speed-shitting

I know, he was just saying something about a Paul family member's stance on the bill and it got me thinking.

The beauty of this bullshit bill is that it is bringing to light how much lobbyist push for our government to restrict our rights. Our generation WILL hold the govt accountable. It will happen and i cant wait until those career politicians shiver at night in the hopes that they can find a way to make the PEOPLE happy and not big business.

I wasn't joking or making that shit up

literally

that's why in the old n days they used to have little stools people propped their feet up on when they shart
