My ranking of the top 4 cities that produce good hip-hop

Dude whatever there is a ton of amazing pre 2003 hip hop. It came from NWA, Gangstarr, KRS-One, early JMT, early Bonethugz, Mob Depp, Non Phixion, groups like that. I don't particularly think it came from any of the rappers previously mentioned. And I'm not talking hip hop history anyway, I'm just saying these groups are a lot beter to listen to, producing more enjoyabe music. Can you really defend Kanye West, The Game, Lil Wayne, or Young Jeezy against any of these fine examples of hip hop?

Detroit Rappers:
Eminem
D12
Royce Da 5’9
Black Milk
Guilty Simpson
Elzhi
Slum Village
Obie Trice
Trick Trick
Phat Kat
One Be Lo
sure not that many legends but some good ones

ok dude go talk to bonethugz and mobb deep about who their influences are then shut your mouth.

you dont know what you are talking about. im sure you sound cool to your highschool friends but get some knowledge.

the bay cause we have asian rappers who are actually sick along with zion i, the grouch, living legends, too short, Andre Nicaktina,

Haha that guy so didn't look like a rapper. Living Legends are dope. I have some Nickatina albums, he's really popular in my town, all the bro guys with the pickup trucks and iron crosses and such are really into him, but I could never realy get down with it.

your an idiot, look at the rest of the list. he had a few off ones but for the most part it was a great list, stfu.

Hey you said it.

I don't know I thought it was pretty mediocre for the 16 greatest rappers to ever live to have lil wayne and not KRS-One.

I never said they were the best 16 rappers ever to live. Thats not what this whole thing started as. I just gave a few rappers a geographical region. If I wanted to I could have added Gang Starr, Celph, Krs One, Mos Def, Slick Rick, NWA, but I didnt. I put down newer hip hop artists that are making good music, be it main stream or not.

its funny to me how everyone on this website uses the argument of mainstream or not to say if rap is good or not. maybe i dont want to be forced into deep thought every time is listen to music, maybe im just tryna go hyphy. or maybe im feeling shitty and i want to listen to some atmosphere. or maybe im super blazed and some weezy sounds sick.

Bliss n Eso are from Sydney, Hoods are from Adelaide.... Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide all strong for hip hop in oz. preordered the new hoods album today :D

anyway as for America, i liked the idea there of dividing it into regions where everyone would have their own preferences.

Oakland! - Ya cant forget bout the Hieroglyphics crew
Canada - Has got Classified
So many places now and days I cant come close to naming them all

1)SF/ Oakland- People Under the Stairs, Souls of Mischief, Hyphy movement, ect.

2)NY-Biggie, Nas, Mobb Deep

Tupac's from Md so if you have LA as second back up your shit

Dude...the reanimation album (remixes of Linkin Park songs) has a few GOOD tracks on it. X-ecution style feat. Black Thought, Forgotten feat. Chali 2na and Zion I, High Voltage feat. Evidence and Alchemist...

A few more songs I probably forgot have some really good hip hop artists on it. The Numb/Encore mashup was a DAMN good song. One of my favs. Of course, this is all just personal opinion, but Linkin Park knows who to work with in the hip-hop world. Jay-Z is definitely not shit.

haha who from springfield have you heard that is all that great, i mean i grew up there and i haven't heard much in terms of good hip hop, there are a few really sick producers and recording studios around, but in terms of artists themselves, not really

what the fuck is with people and their love of the bay? who is there besides del? (and dont name e40, keak da sneak or any other hyphanators cause thats just a shitty excuse for a fad)

zion I, andre nickatina, heiroglyphics (semi-bay area)

quite a few good artists there I don't remember, I should have put them up on that list I made.

Hahaha dude yeah right.

1. Bay area (E-40, Turf talk, Too $hort, Traxxamillion, Mac Dre, so on)

2. NYC (Duh)

3. Los angeles

4. ATL

5. Miami (Rick Ross is THE man)

Might as well be, no offense. I go to school in Canada, so I'm not trying to hate, but the entire population of Canada is close to the population of NY or LA.

Its mind boggling how few people mentioned DETROIT

Eminem???

D12???

Killa Kaunn??

Slum Village???

Jay Dee???

Obie???

ICP??

...and kid rock

not a fan of most of the artists up there, which is why it's not in my list. I'm talking GOOD hip hop. Like stellar hip hop. Not anything that could be classified as ordinary or decent. Pretty slim pickings in Detroit.

get your shit straight. Wu is from Staten. well, most of them. Dirty, GZA, and Masta Killa are from BK. AZ is also from BK. and BK holds shit down so hard. QB is the home of a lot of good people. Tragedy Khadafi, Illah Ghee and that whole crew. they hold it down no doubt, but the brook has the best fsho. Manhattan got good shit too. MF Grimm holdin it down for the 9 4! bascically, the bridge is good, but the other boros produce a lot more shit.

I've heard some songs off it.

Jay Z might have had some tracks and been legit back in the day, but IMO he is not worth listening to at all anymore. Linkin Park were always terrible, Hybrid Theory came out when I was like 14 and my reaction was: WTF? This is not metal at all this is terrible, its like Korn with a DJ and a whiney singer. Worst idea for an album ever if you ask me. It would be hard to make a good rapXmetal mashup album anyway, its not a good idea really. Even rappers I really like, I usually skip their wierd metal mashup songs. The Celph Titled song with Fort Minor that has Sweet Chld of Mine as the beat for example, gets skipped every time. Ill Bill has some OK ones but I still don't really like it.

What is the debate here? Is it good hip-hop or hip-hop influence?

Seattle produces some damn good hip-hop, but it is hardly nationally

recognized for its hip hop influences.

I just really don't think you can put Seattle on the

same level as SF, NYC, Chicago, LA, Atlanta, or Detroit, and would

definitely require a debate against St. Louis, Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis, and Miami.

And whoever said Boulder, CO - 3oh!3 bitch.

One last thing - you said in your first post that Tupac = LA. He may have ended up in LA, but his roots were all in NYC. Not that there are not other sick LA based rappers....just saying that in some cases, it is not so cut and dry.

Jay-z had nothing to do with Reanimation. I agree that there are only a couple of songs on the mashup that are decent, but on Reanimation, the hip-hop songs are really hip-hop. Not some metal shit. I doubt you've heard it, otherwise you wouldn't mistake it for metal in any way.
