Oh, I get what you're talking about billy bomba.
I will probably do that for the next ski. For this first one I used poplar for the wood. It was about $8 for the piece, where as maple was about $30. The poplar seems ok, not as hard as maple, but I made it very thick so its very stiff.
For the next one I might do maple and poplar strips, just like you said.
For now, I won't be having any for sale. If I really get everything nailed down by the last pair (I've only got enough material from K2 to make 3 more skis) and the whole process becomes much more streamlined, I will think about producing a number of pairs. Not sure what the cost would be, I'd have to think about that some more. Much MUCH cheaper than any other equivalent ski on the market, but I couldn't garuntee them at all... afterall, they are homemade!
