My city's police department just made...

ButteredToast.

A few fake facebook accounts.

How stupid is that? They've requested almost everyone at my school as a friend to try and dig up dirt on students. Is that not the dumbest thing you've ever heard?

The worse that happens in my tiny white suburban town is drinking, smoking, and fistfights.

I can't believe they've stooped this low.

Thoughts?

Shitty, but in no way surprising.

If you want to see something really bad check out the fusion centers in our country. Read the fbi handbooks. Now theres some profiling going on

you should have a rootbeer kegger and invite them to come. don't say anything about rotbeer though. make it out to be a normal kegger.

thats stupid.. my town has done that and my friends town did it and they busted him for grafitti that he did cuz he put a pic of it up .. thats how they screw up kids that do sports in school now too is if they see them at a party drinking under age they kick them off the team and they use facebook to do it.

^^^^ I've heard of those being pulled of successfully. Fucking awesome when a huge party gets busted by cops and nobody has anything illegal

can you even arrest someone based on pictures of them on facebook?

they have no way to prove that people in pictures aren't just posing with those beers, or drinking water out of them or something. and its just lawn clippings in that joint...

that happened at my school too. we all got friended by this weird guy with no picture, and no one knew who he was...turned out to be a cop.

Does that not infringe on all sorts of privacy and human rights laws?

If some dodgy dude can make up a profile to groom kids, then why can the police do it to groom.... er kids.... ha....

Kinda sounds very dodgy to me, and kinda stepping over the line of Police ethics surely...?

Are you sure it was a cop? this happened at my school and people thought it was the vice principal, but it turned out to be a kid beggin for attention, and by the way, its illegal to do that

its sad that taxpayer money goes towards this.

cops with nothing better to do but make facebooks to find "criminals" to catch.

For facebook, i never post any incriminating pics. and tell people not to post them of me or delete them. Especially don't put anything dumb as your default pic.

Facebook is sketch though. I hope somebody busts out a new site that's legit. There have been a few safe email alternatives popping up to.

one, dont be a dumbass and this wont matter. if your stupid enough to post pictures and shit of yourself breaking the law, you should not only get busted for doing what you did but it should be a more severe punishment based on the fact that your stupid enough to put it on facebook

Attempt to have them lie about their age or true existence if possible. Class A way to get someone for entrapment.

IT does but this is on the very tip. So much worse overstepping going on. It's not even just an internet thing. The books you take out from the library, clubs your affiliated with, phone calls, texts, everything is being used to profile people these days.

Good old fusion centers, keeping america safe fro "terrorists" yeah, sureeee

Sarah Palin also claimed that a moose shot down her heli with a RPG, so now imagine her as anyones principle. Slam that moose with a detention.

if you agree to put info out there on the internet, you pretty much loose any privacy rights. i am going to have to go through a clean-up of my friends and take out the creeps

a few classes ago i want to say the 05 - 06 classes in my town pulled that off and it worked to a T...the cops thought they had everyone just done for and ended up looking like fools.

My teachers back in highschool there were a couple that made fake accounts. It's pretty easy to not add anyone you don't know though so its not a big deal.

i dont know about other places around the country but the police in my home area have been doing this since myspace was popular. they were looking for graff writers, and just in general to see who associates with who. over reaching boundaries of privacy? maybe. but if you are really that worried about it you are probably doing something wrong in the first place and you would lose that arguement. bottom line - dont post stupid shit on your on line profile.

Well i'm 29, so most pics on facebook are of me doing stupid stuff.... but if i was young and at school, especially here in America.... then i wouldn't put pics of anything incriminating...

Posting pictures / videos / anything on the internet of you doing something illegal etc is pretty much the same as putting up a giant billboard of you doing it in the middle of town.... you wouldn't do that now would you...

But my point still stands.... one day there will be a big legal case about one of these so called invasions of privacy - and to be honest, the picture person will win because it is a human rights issue... by pretending to be someone you're not to simply spy on someone is hugely illegal and immoral..... and a HR's court would see it like that as well.

wanna know whats even worse? in my town there is a new law that if they see you in a facebook pic drinking or smoking, and then see you on the streets, they can search you without any probably cause.

for real? thats insane. the internet scares me.

my sister went to boarding school and there were pictures of her and her friends having a picnic, at home, and they tried to suspend her for drinking CRANBERRY JUICE.

how ridiculous is that?

All that is left to do is make a fake account yourself.
Play yourself off as the school's biggest drug dealer on facebook, i.e. find pictures off some random kid's facebook on the other side of the country (or another country altogether), give him a new name and then post up pictures of weed plants, lines of coke, and ecstacy pills. If you're a wiz at photoshop you could even put the kid in the pictures doing lines of coke. Befriend a bunch of kids from your high school then befriend the fake cops. Act like you deal drugs over facebook. Get in touch with the cops over their fake profiles and try to set up drug deals with them. State some bogus location that is way the fuck out of the way and just never show up. You could fuck with them for a while if you played it right.

yeah dude same exact thing happened in my little town! or at least we thinks its the po. some girl named lisa dunn friended everyone from our school and our school admins heard about it and said they were getting an investigation going to make sure it wasn't a rapist. they never told us the outcome so more than likely its the cops that have nothing better to do.

My dorms did the same thing. They had "confidential internet informants" friend people that live there in exchange for free housing. Whenever they saw something "illegal" pop up on facebook involving the dorms, they let security know and they tried to bust kids with ridiculous fines. Those faggots tried to catch me once, I told them fuck you, and deleted the pictures. Dumbasses didn't even save copies, so they had jack shit.

I'd like to keep hate out of my thread but...

You're 39? And hating on kids on the internet?

Cool life.

And you moved out of your parents house 4 years ago? You're about ten years too late. Most successful adults move out at 25. My parents had me at 35.

Once again, cool life.

Enjoi ur intarwebz, fag.

I've got a request from a few of these, usually it's a picture of a hot girl, that you have somehow never seen or heard about from your town. Usually with less than 50 friends.

That's pathetic. You'd think cops would have better things to do like catch murder suspects as apposed to catching a few kids with drinking and blazing.

Minor in possession. even if they didnt consume

my friend had a party but it got busted before it even started, so they cops didnt find anything except two beer cans in the woods, and they got in deep shit

if they see you smoking pot in a picture thats probable cause. they see from the picture youve done it before meaning you could be about to do it again or what ever.
