this is true. the beatles weren't a pop band. they defined pop music throughout their career, and still have a great influence on todays music. the beatles didnt sound like everyone else, everyone else wants to sound like them. difference

All the members of Metallica are so incredibly talented. If you listen to their older shit like justice and master it will blow your mind. Even the album Load from 96 is so fucking amazing. The musicianship and everything is just so on-point with Metallica whether you like them or not.

also frank ticheli
but really, Whitacre is a tonal genius. Imagine what it takes to hear this in your head and have the skill to arrange it so that others can play it too. This is some complicated music...check it

These are my opinions, and within the secrect underlying code of newschoolers i will still have my karama raped because some people think i have a shitty taste in music. I think these bands are the bees knees when it comes to musical art, but then again we all have different tastes and mine might be a little too laid back.

First for me The Arcade Fire....they only have 2 LPs (both are amazing) but great EPs. When i saw them live in concert they all switched instruments and alternated singing.

Next is sigur Ros, which is probably one of the most inspirational bands i have listened to. Check out the song Hoppiola....pure inspiration.

Now this is the one where i might get hated on a lot for, but i am sorry i think these guys are amazing. I have been listening to them since Here Comes the Indian. I think these guys are geniuses, but some people call what they make not music but sounds. Either way each of their new albums has just been ridiculous but amazing. Check out the song fireworks or grass if you have never heard of these guys.

Aight this next band for me always blows me away, i dont know if they are genius status...but when i met them i was amazed to hear they said they dont know how to read music. Explosions in the Sky

hate to say it but kanye. he helped produce the blueprint when he was in high school!

thom yorke

joel zimmerman aka deadmau5. he codes his own programs to make music.

Johnson's songs, vocal phrasing and guitar style have influenced a broad range of musicians, including Muddy Waters, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Winter, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton; Clapton has called Johnson "the most important blues singer that ever lived".[1][2] Johnson was among the first musicians to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "early influence" category in 1986.[3]He was ranked fifth in Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.[4]

once again, im not debating this guys guitar playing ability.... you seem to be missing my point so whatever.

Also gnna have to agree with whoever said explosions in the sky... most post-rock bands are really talented musically.

also mars volta maybe.

Talib Kweli. If he wanted to be on top of the charts he could. As it is his legacy is as the greatest lyricist of his time.

Daft Punk - goes without saying.

Kanye - As big a prick as he is, he has an unbelievable knack for putting together a beat.

no they arent.

im guessing you don't play an instrument?

metallica is the laughing stock of metal. theyre absolute garbage, musicianship? using the wah doesnt make you technical at all.

and justice doesnt fit into the "classic" metallica period.

You do realize just because you dont like the music doesnt make it bad. The Mars Volta are some of the best musicians around. If you knew what you were talking about you would know that they mix very odd time signatures and the modes they use in their songs are like no other. Not to mention that there tight as fuck. Go to youtube and watch some Thomas Pridgen.

yeah maybe not talented instrumentally, but in terms of raw creativity id say they are at the top. just in HOW they used those instruments, and introduced new ones (sitar etc.) into rock music

The Beatles take all of their influences from Chuck Berry, and Chuck Berry can pwn anyone.

Therefore, Chuck Berry is probably the greatest Western musician of the past 200 years.

i cant believe no one has said yet but Tupac/biggie- what they did for rap music is incredible.. along wiht being a great rapper tupac studied at art school learning about poetry among other things.. If you ever have a chance and find some of tupac's poetry it is actually really good

here is one... i know poetry isn't a lotta peoples shit especially on NSG but u can respect what he did as an artist..

The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac

Did

you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving

nature's law is wrong it learned to walk with out having feet. Funny it

seems, but by keeping it's dreams, it learned to breathe fresh air.

Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared.

HAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHA i see what u did there! cause i play lacrosse i am a bro holy shit that is fucking funny u should make a video on this! shut the fuck up and try not to be a huge faggot your whole life...

mark knopfler and eric clapton were no were near the best guitarists of their day, let alone all time.

the "that made it" in the title of this thread is key... i cant think of much better guitarists that had the level of fame and success that they did.

yes. one of the most talented bands out there in my oppinion. when i saw this thread they instantly popped into my head

DJ Premier and Dr Dre easily the top two producers in the industry

Talib Keweli and Guru for lyricism

Jay-Z for being on top of the rap industry while being true to what rap is.

dude you piss me off on a daily basis.

don't prick off at people when you are the one who wasn't clear in your comment.

they are talented musicians, who both reached a huge level of success.

but you said they were two of the best guitarists of all time. they are definitely sick, but in terms of tone, technicality. and other variables many other players, like you said, can top them.

also, LOL at metallica. the same dynamics for at least half of their songs, pentatonics, one dimentional drum beats, cliche lyrics, over used wah, it goes on and on..

i have played the drums for 9 years.
i dont know what would make you say that metallica is garbage and "the laughing stock of metal".
