Musical Geniuses that made it

metallica is the laughing stock of metal huh? maby to the few people that actually like the stupid screaming shit that no one can understand.

Im gonna assume ur the guy that hates the kids that listen to pop cause you classify it as "shit music" and u say its not music,, even tho u listen to ur death metal that you cant understand when they say stuff and it hurts to listen to.

they are pretty flipping main stream. and face it. they have been reproducing the same album over and over again for 25 years.

bobby mcferrin.
he wrote "don't worry be happy" and became famous for it but has done so much with artists like yo-yo ma, chick corea, herbie hancock, joe zawinul, and many more.
i can name you countless extremely talented jazz musicians, but i can't say they have all made it into today's most popular music category.

I wasn't talking recently...new metal isn't super technical, it just sounds that way. I was talking about like Ronnie James Dio and shit, he changed the way people looked at a guitar.

Anthony Kedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante.

in short, the red hot chili peppers. All of them are incredibly talented, and they are hugely successful.

you're really cool man. why dont you sit behind a drumset and try and play decently if its sooo easy? im passionate about my drumming so for you to say shit like that isnt cool.
and to all those who say metallica has no talent? go do better. by the way, ever heard of the rock and roll hall of fame? yeah, they're in it.
and i know these are all opinions, but to say a band has no talent just because you don't like them and claim they "sold out," just shut up. i mean there are bands i dont like, but i know are talented. just dont like their style of music.

I think Dream Threatre is good set of musicials, they all write the songs and play their own intruments, i dont like the singer but the rest of the band is very talented without a doubt.

also MJ was talented in my opion

Elton John is good

Beattles set a precendent for most pop muscials to try and follow

I think neil pert is a great muscial also, well drummer but one of the best if not the best

pop music today is jsut bad for the most part in my opionion, with excepts of a few

lars ulrich one of the worst drummers?? woah woah thats fucked up.
hey charmander, when your not playing pokemon, fill us in on what kind of music you listen to thats so amazing. really im curious
dragonforce????

Protest the Hero maybe has not advanced modren metal pre-se but it defently has a great amount of potential too, i argue becuase they do not solely structure there music around breakdowns

*Mangum...

and hes hardly a musical genius when it comes to his chord progressions. G, C, D... maybe a Bm or an A in there and thats about it... although his songwriting abilities are incredible.

I'd say
Jeff Buckley (no one writes songs or plays guitar like him)
Stevie Wonder
Elizabeth Fraser (one of the greatest singers and experimentalists of all time)
BRIAN ENO????
Frank Zappa (those who know, I'm surprised no one said it)
Queen?
The Talking Heads?
Tim Buckley
The White Stripes? (to a much lesser extent than others).

Gee, you're SO FUCKING INDIE.
None of those guys has earned shit yet. Arcade Fire? Seriously? Go suck a dick.

Maybe not compared to your list but they're starting to. I noticed a few weeks ago Wake Up by Arcade Fire was up in the 30s on the Itunes top 100 downloaded songs list. Jesus Christ chill out.

Just because they're on the charts doesn't mean that's a sign that they're good, or that they're worth something. If you'll notice, by those standards, Miley Cyrus is a genius.
Arcade Fire are nothing special by switching instruments and incorporating tribal beats into pop. It's all been done before.

i like you
you cannot argue that last year mars volta had one of the most talented group of musicians all on the same page musically in recent memory. it was insane to watch them play together and when i saw them last year at hammerstein they played for 3 hours and jammed all of there songs into 20 minute epic ballads, but they just got rid of thomas prigden so we'll see where there new sound goes

the bedlam in goliath is one of the most intense records ive ever listened too. and its fucking awesome

im going to be an asshole and say weird al

haha

flash_video_placeholder.png

the song is written in rhyming palindromes(sentences spelt the same forward and backward) i just watched it and was shocked haha

but in all seriousness, there are so many:

beatles (song writing)

zeppelin

SRV

hendrix

pink Floyd

john mayer doesnt quite deserve to be here yet but he is so musically gifted :)

Everytime I see this thread it makes me turn on some streetlight manifesto...they are amazing

Trent Reznor anyone? NIN is amazing and he is pushing the free music and down with the RIAA movement.

Oh and to people saying metal is music...lawlz...it is screaming with fast guitaring behind it...It takes a lot of skill to scream?

Yah I can deal with some screaming with guitars behind it and I don't like others...not writing off someone's opinion just saying most metal sucks but some is alright at best...I dunno it just depends...It is mostly death metal were they just scream and don't even have lyrics.

Oh and the metal I am talking about that I think sucks..bands like this and Attack Attack.

and the NIN that I like..but that song you posted was not all screaming and you could understand what he saying.

as to metal, you cant deny that some of the musicianship is off the charts insane, and they obviously enjoy doing it. I have so much respect for the drummers especially in metal bands, getting to the level of jason bittner and chris adler takes years of practice. but we dont really regard metal bands as having "musical prodigies" do we.

oh, and as to mine:

Jeff Tweedy and Wilco, Isaac Brock and Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, The Avett Brothers, Bon Iver, At The Drive In and The Mars Volta, The Roots, Beck, Beirut, Built To Spill, The Gorillaz, John Butler, Matisyahu, The Postal Service but NOT Death Cab i dont think, Streetlight, and TV on the Radio.
