Maybe I just believe there are limits to what governments role is in society and you want to use it for personal interests.
14343676:vibe.crudo said:I don't know if this has been answered but I worked a short internship with a civil engineering firm and basically, every development I worked on had a phase dedicated to telling people what we were building. Post a huge sign in a lot saying "This land is going to be turned into a **STORAGE FACILITY** Public hearing will be december 9th, 2021" or some shit and if enough people went and voted against it, then we were forced to abandon the project. Problem is, nobody usually votes because they don't ever see the signs, or they just don't read them.
But yeah, locals could literally force a ski lodge to not be built. Weird to not want tourist money flowing through the local economy but if you and the homies don't vibe with it then you can totally shut down projects like that lmfao

This is why I said it would only work for smaller resorts, even a medium sized resort has a shit ton of expenses every year and lift tickets alone don't get anywhere close to covering those costs. Most large resorts don't make that much money from ticket sales.
That being said, large resorts generate a SHIT TON of money, so its desirable for investors, hence why we see so much money grabbing these days.
14344675:Wormracer said:Wait!? You are unaware!
Hyland Hills the most densely packed ski area in the world, and Elm Creek are two we can add to the list. They are Park City so I wouldn't expect you to know. What about Whiteface, Titus? Fairy sure they receive a good amount of money from NY state.
Can you please site figures for these claims of large ski areas make a shit ton of money? Perhaps why they differ from small resorts in how they generation revenue? Or just say random shit because you actually don't know what your talking about.
14344680:eheath said:lol andy you need to bother someone else, you're not triggering me.
14344684:Wormracer said:I'm going to live rent free in your head because the truth hurts.
Anyway can you please explain your comments? Or are you just posting to post? I'd love to see where you get your facts from. Or maybe those don't matter to you. Maybe something that doesn't have to do with Park City...
14344688:eheath said:haha okay dude... i asked which resorts were public and stated a pretty broad fact, didnt really say anything else relevant other than I thought these large resorts would never give up their profitability and that it would be very hard to switch resorts (regardless of size) from profit to non profit.
I recognized that small resorts operate different than large resorts and I will be the first to admit I don't know anything about any east coast resorts, which WOW you do! maybe be a helpful person instead of just trying to call me out for no reason.
14344713:Wormracer said:Yes, so you know nothing.
Noted.

14345596:bennwithtwons said:Sort of. I’m not sure what the context was in your original reference, though. It seemed like you brought it up as an example of something but I must have missed an earlier post cause it seemed out of place with the rest of your post. So my mention of DP being a net loser financially might be a total non sequitur haha
14345618:BradFiAusNzCoCa said:People were arguing about local government owned ski resorts and if it’s viable so I brought up DP as another example of a local resort. It was just like a tiny add on but then I went back and edited my post because I had another thought haha
A lot of government entities lose money in the interest of bettering the lives of the population. And yeah there was no way they were making money off me with my $229 pass back in the day ?
