So if I were to vote no on such a proposal, do I get a tax cut cause I don't support it? Cause if not I'd still be paying for something I didn't consent to. Maybe I just believe there are limits to what governments role is in society and you want to use it for personal interests.

I don't know if this has been answered but I worked a short internship with a civil engineering firm and basically, every development I worked on had a phase dedicated to telling people what we were building. Post a huge sign in a lot saying "This land is going to be turned into a **STORAGE FACILITY** Public hearing will be december 9th, 2021" or some shit and if enough people went and voted against it, then we were forced to abandon the project. Problem is, nobody usually votes because they don't ever see the signs, or they just don't read them.

But yeah, locals could literally force a ski lodge to not be built. Weird to not want tourist money flowing through the local economy but if you and the homies don't vibe with it then you can totally shut down projects like that lmfao

Or if the company is big enough, the pay everyone off by like fixing roads or mitigating wetlands or some other gesture... or just flat out giving citizens money to not go to the public hearing lol

Which resorts are owned by the public? I'm unaware of these, I'm guessing they're very small, low cost establishments.

Kicking Horse in BC was originally not-for-profit (essentially town owned). Shames Mountain in BC is a community owned not for profit co-op. La Grave in France is a town owned gondola.

Wait!? You are unaware!

Hyland Hills the most densely packed ski area in the world, and Elm Creek are two we can add to the list. They are Park City so I wouldn't expect you to know. What about Whiteface, Titus? Fairy sure they receive a good amount of money from NY state.

Can you please site figures for these claims of large ski areas make a shit ton of money? Perhaps why they differ from small resorts in how they generation revenue? Or just say random shit because you actually don't know what your talking about.

This is why I said it would only work for smaller resorts, even a medium sized resort has a shit ton of expenses every year and lift tickets alone don't get anywhere close to covering those costs. Most large resorts don't make that much money from ticket sales.

That being said, large resorts generate a SHIT TON of money, so its desirable for investors, hence why we see so much money grabbing these days.

lol andy you need to bother someone else, you're not triggering me.

I'm going to live rent free in your head because the truth hurts.

Anyway can you please explain your comments? Or are you just posting to post? I'd love to see where you get your facts from. Or maybe those don't matter to you. Maybe something that doesn't have to do with Park City...

haha okay dude... i asked which resorts were public and stated a pretty broad fact, didnt really say anything else relevant other than I thought these large resorts would never give up their profitability and that it would be very hard to switch resorts (regardless of size) from profit to non profit.

I recognized that small resorts operate different than large resorts and I will be the first to admit I don't know anything about any east coast resorts, which WOW you do! maybe be a helpful person instead of just trying to call me out for no reason.

I went on their instagram to talk some shit and comments are disabled lol.

Also Cannon is owned and operated by the State of New Hampshire - to contribute to the public/private operation convo.

Yes, so you know nothing.

Noted.

Wait wasn’t Boho embroiled in the scandal with backcountry.com for trademark as well? I remember them making a big stink about it. So ironic now they’re doing the same.

Also, Diamond Peak in Tahoe is owned by IVGID which is the local “gubment” so they’re public too.

Boho one time posted on their insta asking about a group trip to NZ and if anyone had advice. I responded saying I was literally there right now and willing to give them the inside scoop. The guy starts DMing me then asks for my cell. I said “dude I’m in NZ right now. You can’t text me”. The clown was like “oh I thought you were in usa” then just stopped writing.

I thought it was so silly. Didn’t even make sense. He was already writing me on insta!

If you wanted to go do some newschoolers activism and talk shit on insta but are sad that comments are disabled, fear no more! They will respond to your insta dm and the person running the insta makes shitty points so is very satisfying to argue with

90% chance that person is Lonie himself.

i am fairly certain that diamond peak only makes money about 10 days out of the entire year. if i am not mistaken, this is worked into the town budget and the ivgid feed paid by residents makes up the difference

Boho made the smartest PR decision in the past 15 years....

They finally turned off the comments for their social posts

Was this directed towards me?

Oh and they only filed for the Trademark last year after announcing their own general store to sell merch. They operated for 19 years without the Trademark.

Mount bohemia is a local business too lol.

They deserve trademark protection here imo.

Not sure if anyone addressed this but just because you don't have a registered trademark doesn't mean you can't claim trademark protection so in other words just because the local business didn't have a registered trademark, doesn't mean they can't claim their logos are their own- because they can claim that right if they've been operating that way. https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/what-good-unregistered-trademark.html

Also mount bohemia as the original post and the USGS clearly shows is the name of the mountain and rights to that name are not exclusive. That would be like the government suing folks for making I?NYC shirts. Now if the logo design or any slogans were used, then yeah you'd have a case. I don't see how this isn't a slam dunk for the defense. Anybody could self represent and win this ffs.

This guy sounds like a total chode. Like who says "I'll ban you from my resort" lol tf. My opinion of this operation went from high to the pits after reading this thread.

Also this side argument y'all are having about owners of ski resorts, I figured I'd throw this in there. A ski resort could easily be a non-profit and employ people and still have rich ceo's and what not. The only requirement is that any profits must go back into the company aka the resort. The size of the resort and amount of employees is irrelevant to nonprofit status. Nonprofit status probably would be beneficial to patrons of a ski area for various reasons.

Sort of. I’m not sure what the context was in your original reference, though. It seemed like you brought it up as an example of something but I must have missed an earlier post cause it seemed out of place with the rest of your post. So my mention of DP being a net loser financially might be a total non sequitur haha

Also what cuck downvoted this thread?

frat boy business majors who have to pull the “lmao do you know how a trademark works?” in the comments

People were arguing about local government owned ski resorts and if it’s viable so I brought up DP as another example of a local resort. It was just like a tiny add on but then I went back and edited my post because I had another thought haha

A lot of government entities lose money in the interest of bettering the lives of the population. And yeah there was no way they were making money off me with my $229 pass back in the day ?

Yeah it’s really considered an amenity. I’ve heard some talk of creating new DH trails for summer riding but not sure what will become of that. They crush is during the holiday period(s) though
