Momentum or camp of champions?

I really want to go to a summer camp but i dan't know what one to chose.

momentum or camp of champs?

any suggestions

Hey Dude,
I'm Graeme from the Camp of Champions and we'd be stoked if you came up to shred with us this summer. If you're like the first guy that responded above and don't like snowboarders, then we're not the camp for you, but if you like having fun and skiing a sick park, then we'd be stoked to have you come to camp.
Also just to dispel any rumours, we're the only 100% private park on the glacier. All the other camps share a pipe with the public.

Sorry if I misinterpreted.
Our t-bar line is busier, but not because of snowboarders. It's from the public skiing in the afternoon on the weekends. Thats why we are only on snow one day on the weekends, Sun. Monday to Friday is not busy until everyoe is trying to leave the glacier from 2:30 to 3, including us. Otherwise it's pretty mellow.

Try South America Snow Sessions, You get to ski way more terrain, learn about snow, spanish and experience a different culture, plus its cheaper for a month vs two weeks on a crowded Glacier. I promise it will make you a better skier and Jibber!

Momentum has shorter t-bar line ups and is cheaper and all meals included

COC has a bigger park and more variety or coaches

Hey, I`m a staff member at the Dave Murray Whistler Summer Ski Camp. If you are thinking about a summer ski camp, you might want to check us out as well. We do have our own private pipe and we also have access to the public one as well, along with our private jumps, rails, boxes etc . The T-bar line up for us is usually only busy at the end of the day when everyone is trying to get back down from the glacier. If you want to check out our website, it`s www.skiandsnowboard.com

We also like to remind that we're the last ski-only camp out there! We're all for our snowboard brethren, but sometimes its nice to have features that have been tweaked 100% with skiers in mind.

We've made some serious moves to step up our game on the terrain this year, and are very open to suggestions. Our terrain may not be the biggest, but you'll definitely get a lot of laps in on that showcase T-bar. Anyone who's been up there knows that you can't beat the lap time of showcase!

Also right now if you mention "Newschoolers gear promo" in your camp signup, we'll buy you some fresh NS gear and have it shipped right to your house! You'll show up for camp all pimped out and ready to ski!

Being fortunate enough to ski in the summer is awesome in itself.

Anyone who has questions about one camp versus another should simply go to the camps websites and gather the information rather than soliciting one liner opinions.

For example to browse the CampofChampions website will take you nearly an hour to study every thing. Make educated decisions!

Start here for example - Use COC as a bench mark to gauge all the others by.

http://campofchampions.com/whistler/whatyouget/default.aspx

The only plus to going to momenthum is that there is less of a lift line.

But there is like 20 reasons why Coc is better. Just got to COC or otherwise you would regret it.

They are pretty much the same.

Momentum pros: smaller lift lines, skier only

Momentum cons:not as much terrain

COC pros: more terrain

COC cons: longer lift lines after lunch, maybe the missing atmosphere of skiers only.

Everyone is in an awesome atmosphere? Wow. If I am going to shell out that kind of money for a park then I want a awesome dope park first, not a bunch of awesome people in a dope atmosphere in an OK park.

This is Camp of Champions. Anyone got any comparable shots of Momentum to compare?

terrain_large.jpg

There's no denying that COC has awesome terrain. Petrie does a great job building that park, and we have the utmost respect for him!
We've made leaps and bounds of awesome improvements to our terrain as well though. Notice that we've taken over the old High North lane, and have brought back that legendary jump line.
Last year that first booter was massive and floaty, but we thought it a bit much. We're going to sneak it downhill, and focus on making two really nice jumps there. The first will be a throwback to the earlier days of when High North built that lane... nice smooth kick with a touch of stepdown. Second jump will be stepup style with a bunch of kick. Perfect place to take tricks to a big jump.
You can't forget the lift line. Anyone who has been to the glacier will attest to how wonderful the lineup is on our T-bar. We may not have as many jumps in a row, but you can hit each one of them many, many, many times with a short lift line.
Oh - and sign up now mentioning Newschoolers and you could get yourself one of their brand-new shirts. :)

Personally I would go to COC. Better jumps, and even though the line on the T bar gets longer, I wouldnt care, I would hike it and not only get in better shape, but you would get more laps in. And I wasnt a fan of the vibe over at Momentum. except from a few of the coachs such as TJ and Bibby.

yea only if you sing up in May....really frustrating when you have already singed up...dont get me wrong i LOVE momentum...but thats just a little frustrating....so anyone who has been debating signing up hurry up and jump on this awesome deal!

At momentum you get a different coach everyday, so you really get a chance to be taught by all the best guys and girls. Breakfast is right at the bottom of the lift and its buffet style so no one is waiting around. This means you don't have to come down from staff housing to the village....then wait to eat... then walk back to the bottom of Blackcomb all before you've even put your skis on. Momentum's hotel is also right in the Vil so easy access to everything, all your meals are included and its cheaper the COC... How can you go wrong?

Don't worry Meg, I'll make sure you get a shirt ;)

Bottom line is you can't wrong with either camp. You'll have the time of your life no matter which one you choose :)

Jeff is on point, you'll have an epic time with either one of us. There are differences between the two, Momentum stays in a hotel (nicer) we stay in a dorm (more fun), Momentum is half park/half moguls and all our space is dedicated to park features, but at the end of the day you'll have an epic summer at either.
So pick the camp you feel is right for you and have an epic summer.

I signed up for momentum already too! Sesh 2 this summer! shits gonna go offfffffffffffffffffffffffff

anyway to get the tshirt from NS even if ive already signed up?

do u get to ski the same amount of time between the two camps(how long each day for either camp), and which one has more/better rails?

I would say that you get equal ski time at either camp. For most of the camps on the glacier, you all get up to the glacier at the same time, and everyone pretty much leaves and starts to head down around the same times; with the exception of some of the race and mogul camps, I think they head down after eating lunch. As far as rails are concerned, Momentum is pretty sick! I think COC might have more of them, but that is only because of the size of the camp. Last summer I think we figured out a line that you could about 9 or so rails in a row at momentum? Either way, momentum has sick stuff and they always set up really creative rail features...the kickerbox to flat down last summer was so much fun

I went to momentum last summer and it was really sick. The food was awesome, the hotel was really nice, the coaches were super helpful, and the lines were short. The park was good, but from looking at camp of champs park looked perfect. I didn't envy that they had to walk down from base two to get into the village, or to get to breakfast, but their setup in staff housing looked legit too. The terrain at momentum is pretty steep, so you get the really bumpy steep runouts from rails and that can be kinda sketchy switch, but I bet that's more from it being summer than the area.
Basically I think it would be sick either way. I went to momentum for the coaching and all-skiers vibes, but if I went to camp again I'd definitely want to try out coc. God, that acronym can look awkward.

I personally find it busy all day any day...i would chose momentum over coc any day just because momentum is really sick and you can take about 5 laps to 1

Hey, you know better than that Loach....
Momentum has 5 lanes total, 4 of them are park (one lane on skiers right of showcase, and two lanes on skiers left, and the old HN lane), 1 lane is moguls. That's 80% park, 20% moguls, hardly half/half.....
Plus the moguls are a bonus anyways, those bumps get so slushy and fun in the summer. Riddle was doing switch cork 9 in the bump course last summer, and all of the coaches go hit that shit up.

if anyone new is going to momentum, say you were refered by zach miller, so that i get free stuff!!!!

sorry to sound like a spoiled bitch, but i want that hat

yea but you get 2x if not more to ski! i know its alot...i wish i had the money to go...i would in a heartbeat if i did!!

So wait, you signed up early at Momentum and didn't get any deal? Hmmmmmmm..

Frustrating you say? These threads on one camp versus another are frustrating.

Camp of Champions is plastered with early sign up deals. They gave something like $600 worth of swag and stuff for early sign ups. http://campofchampions.com/whistler/signuphookups/signuphookups.aspx At momentum if you sign up late you get a tee-shirt? Every Camper at Camp of Champions gets a shirt regardless of when they signed up. Did you get the $100 early sign-up bonus before Jan 15th? If you didn't, they should still give you a bunch of shirts for your loyalty..... If momentum doesn't ante up a shirt for you, I'll buy you an NS shirt from the store here. Deal?

I'm Sorry, It's early Sunday morning and I am feeling grumpy plus I just realized I missed the Trains event over at Sugar Bowl. I keep going back and forth from here to the camp websites. Meggers not to stereotype you, but Camp of Champions has their first week as ladies week and even allows you to trade a lift ticket for spa treatments, meanwhile Momentum has canceled their first session that includes adults, apparently due to low enrollment (aka economy?) http://momentumskicamps.com/2009/freeride.php?id=dates Isn't that going to put an addtional strain on their T-bar?

I wish I could do a graph of pros and cons. Camp of Champions does appear to be $25 a day more or about 10%. if you only eat the camp food, with an extra meal consider it more a difference. Plane fare combined with miscellanious spending expenses make the total cost even closer in a percentage difference. COC offers a ton more to offset the difference in cost. I found on the COC website that if you are Canadian that parents can get a $500 tax credit. That little tidbit of info says a lot to me

I could go on and on with what I found this morning. I haven't even touched on Trennon as Head coach at Momentum in relation to likely better skill development vs COC shear size and the amount of extras along with the interaction of with snowboarders.

Here is my read. If you are a skier and proud of it - take you and your attitude to Momentum. If you want the best including a good time coupled with the opportunity to learn new skills - Go to Camp of Champions.

Footnote. If my kid was old enough and he wanted to go to camp, I know which one I would choose.

Ahhhhh fuck it.

Momentum

TOP 10 REASONS TO CHOOSE MOMENTUM

VALUE FOR MONEY:

Our camp price includes everything you need from pick up to drop off at

airport. You do not need to bring extra money for activities, evening

meals or other things.

NINE DAYS: The

camp session consists of 9 days and 8 nights including 2 travel days, 6

days on snow and 1 day off in the middle to rest and enjoy some of

Whistler’s other activities.

BEST COACHING:

Our crew is made up of the most talented skiers in the world. Their

names and results speak for themselves. You get to ski with a different

coach each day to benefit from all of their knowledge and coaching

styles. The coaches work in small groups of 4 - 7 skiers of a similar

ability so you learn at the right pace.

FASTEST TURNAROUND:

Our location on the glacier dominates the Showcase T-bar. The T-bar

runs through the middle of the camp and has the smallest lift lines on

the glacier ensuring the fastest turnaround times and most runs per day

of any camp.

SKIING-ONLY CAMP: The

Momentum terrain park is for skiers only and offers 5 lanes of space,

including a full mogul course. With so much terrain our park can cater

to all levels of skiers and our volume of skiers per lane is lower than

most camps, therefore less crowded and safer.

SAFE PROGRESSION:

Our terrain park has a variety of jumps and rails from small to large

and we utilize the Water Ramps and 3 trampolines with certified

instructors to teach you how to learn to jump safely.

rippers you might not have heard of… yet, as your coaches. You’ll ride

so much better in your time with us it will boggle your mind. It's like

getting an extra summer of riding in just one week.
  • RIDE MORE - LEARN MORE® - Get An Extra Day Worth of Riding Per Week Compared To Other Camps

    You

come to camp to ride and ride hard. If you add up the hours you

actually are riding and being coached compared to other camps, you

actually get an extra day worth of riding and coaching per week. Other

camps get 6 hours total daily, divided between the Bike Park and the

Air Dome, COC does 6 hours a day in the park plus 3 private 2 hour Air

Dome sessions a week. That adds up to 6 extra hours of riding a week,

basically a day more riding per week than other camps. Add in our 1:3

coaching ratio compared to 1:6 for other camps you don't just get more

riding, you get more coaching too. If you want to ride more and learn

more, come to COC. It will be the best week of your life.
  • Best Coaching Ratio

    All

coaching is "One-on-One" in small groups with a ratio of 1 coach to

every 3 campers. The best the other camps offer is 1 coach for every 6

riders. Coaching is all day, every day from 10AM to 5:00PM and during

our Private Airdome Coaching Sessions from 6 PM to 8 PM three times a

week. After riding with you all day, our coaches hit the after riding

activities with you and chill at The Dorm as well. That is how you make

friends for life and learn the most.
  • Private Airdome Coaching Sessions.

The Airdome is a 10,000 square foot playground filled with a giant foam

pit for learning tricks safely and wooden ramps for learning transition

riding and taking the tricks you learn in the foam pit to the next

closest thing to the park, wood ramps. It’s awesome. We have private

sessions three times a week from 6-8PM. You will learn so much it will

    amaze you.

  • Lift Tickets

Lift tickets for the Whistler Bike Park for duration of stay.
  • Demo Bikes

    Free use of

brand new top of the line bikes supplied by our sponsors, Norco,

Transition and Banshee and safety equipment supplied by TSG. These are

not rental bikes like other camps use, they are private demo bikes for

COC campers that get a complete tune every night.
  • Bike Damage Insurance

    The

Whistler Bike Park eats bikes, it's why we have the Ride Along

Mechanic®. It's why this year we have added the Bike Damage Insurance

feature. It costs $120CDN per 8 day session and covers your bike for

any damage caused while riding the Bike Park. It doesn't cover theft.

With the price of parts, this one is a no brainer. Nothing better than

not having to worry about how much a part is after you crash and burn

    in the park.
  • Bring Your Own Bike Discount

    Save

$300 CDN per 8 day session if you bring your own DH bike (Conditions

apply). Beware, the Whistler Bike Park eats bikes that aren’t worthy

and you will spend more fixing your bike than you saved.
  • Ride Along Mechanic®

Part of learning to ride better is not missing runs due to a

mechanical. Our Ride Along Mechanic® is in the park with the campers,

changing tubes, fixing mechanicals etc. If he can't fix it on the spot,

he swaps bikes with you and you keep riding while he takes your bike

and fixes it. EPIC! RIde More Learn More® You didn't come to Whistler

to walk a broken bike down the mountain, you came to ride.
  • Tuned Bikes

    Factory Pro

Riders get a custom tuned bike and so do COC campers. Your bike is

tuned to your weight and the suspension, sag and fork rebound are

dialed in for you. A tuned bike means faster learning. After a day of

nicks, bumps and hard riding, our Ride Along Mechanic® goes over every

bike with a fine toothed comb, from front to back, top to bottom

bracket, tuning up your bike making sure that when you drop in for that

first run the next day, your bike is perfect.
  • Daily Pro Photo Shoots®.

Every day Pro Photographer Mike Crane

rides with all the campers shooting photos in different parts of the

park. Every night the photos are posted on the COC website and on PinkBike.com

for downloading. Campers go home with CD filled with every picture shot

during their week at camp. If riding the park with our coaches doesn’t

make you feel like a rock star, being part of your own pro photo shoot

with lights, flashes, video cameras and still cameras will.

  • Free Tubes.

The Whistler Bike Park eats tires. If you flat at camp our Ride

Along Mechanic® is there to fix the flat/hook you up with a new tube.
  • Breakfast

    All

You Can Eat Hot Breakfast. We changed where we eat breakfast after

campers said they wanted to eat with their friends in snowboard/ski

camp, at 21 Steps. Done. All you can eat hot breakfast at 21 Steps

^Solid info, but the reason for momentum canceling their first session is the same reason that a lot of other camps on the glacier are canceling their early sessions; i was told that it was Whistler-Blackcomb that is forcing the camps to start later this year. The mountain itself did not exactly have a good year financially, so in order to combat costs, they are pushing back the date that summer operations begin on blackcomb, its not momentum's choice, its whistler blackcomb's choice!

Can you explain anymore? What costs does WB have besides lift operation for the camps. Are you saying that Whistler is forcing all the camps into a 4 week stretch rather than 5 weeks or what ever it has been?

hi! so yea no i got the early bird sing up...im not saying that..all i was saying was that its a lil frustrating when you sign up early and then they start giving out deals. its not that big of a deal. everyone at momentum gets a momentum shirt when you get to camp...along with a bag of goodies!

Momentum canceled the first 2 sessions becuase of whistler/backcomb pushing back the start of the summer skiing/riding...not becuase they wanted to. if you look on the momentum website it says canceled by whistler and if you look on the whistler website is says summer skiing starts june 20th.

i didnt know that coc had a ladies week! thats really cool! good idea!!! and the spa treatment ting is cool too! do you know if that is just the ladies week or if it goes all summer???

if you are canadian you can get the $500 no matter which camp you go to...but i think you need to be under 15 or something...it is an exercise tax deduction thing....the US should have it...we have way too many fat people here!

and i love trennon! he has helped me to much! great guy! and i like snowboarders...but i ride with them all season...i dont have many friends who ski....its nice to be in an environment where im not constantly getting ragged on for being a skier. its nice to have features set up for skiers not snowboarders.

i think you make some very valid points! and i would love to try out coc someday! i think both camps are great!! i think no matter which one you go to you would have an awesome time! nothing beats skiing in the summer! for me...momentum is a great fit! for others it is coc!

my advice to anyone looking for a camp is to figure out what you want out of camp...and then call or email the camps and get your personal questions answered and see which one is the best fit for you!!

K. I think there is too much info going on here. It's really not that complicated. Momentum's park is not as good. They don't have as many rails, and the jumps aren't as good as COC's. It's still a sick park with some dank jumps and nice rails, but its just not as expansive and as well built as COC's. Momentum does have overall better coaching. There are coaches at COC who are really good (Turpin), but you will get more attention and coaching at Momentum. Also Momentum is smaller and much more close knit, so if you're looking for that tight knit nigs chilling vibe, Momentum has that going on. So it comes down to whether you want to ski the better park (some of the best jumps I've ever hit) but wait a little longer in lines, or ski a lesser park with fewer lines and more skiers(some of the most fun times I've ever had).

well iv been to COC and its really sick, great coaching and after skiing stuff, but iv wanted to try out momentum, but coc has better gift offerings so iduno. but COC is realy fun, and you get tons of goodies and stuff at the end. but COC's park goes way hard
