Moment Skis Discussion Thread

Definitely retract my prior statement on the DW. The TS looks way better actually on the ski than it did on the graphic papers. 112>104 though

We're trying a two year cycle on touring ski graphics this year, these will be the graphics for the entire 24/25 season.

Ahhh ok. So the new DWT stuffing I got in my box will be the 25/26 line up?

I know it's been leaked already but the new Countach 104 should be interesting. [tag=144811]@hot.pocket[/tag] what was the inspiration for making a narrower Countach?

You guys and max really knocked it out of the park with the new TS. Great job across the board. Love the x-29 on the franks. Taking me back to my childhood playing with micro machines.

We personally wanted pairs in our own fleet. The Countach 110 is awesome but can be a little much when it's low tide.

That, and like every person on TGR asking for a skinnier Countach.

the 40 year old man children with too much spare money n time are gonna go wild for this one

As an almost 40 yr old with kids, I can certainly relate (but we’d probably go with Meridians as theyd still match but we dont ski park anymore). A skier’s midlife crisis right there.

They need to drop the 95 brake on those pivots for the frank

i could just use pivot 95 brakes i have and swap em right? also i wasn’t even aware of this color way until yesterday, guessing it’s pretty fresh. only seeing them for $430 cheapest is tough, hopefully they become a bit more common and i can find a cheaper pair closer to season

Ya absolutely can swap the brakes since these aren’t the new 2.0 version with the updated parts.

its the new 105 brake version so ya its a new colorway and option completely which is why youre only seeing full price atm.

Hate to be that guy who’s always suggesting something new but I’d buy a Countach 100 in a heartbeat. My Tahoe 96’s were so fucking good and I miss that full wood, lively charger ski in my lineup. Shouldn’t have sold those.

Well, well, well… how the turn tables

Is this legally binding? Do I have to buy a Countach 104 now? I probably should, right?

100% should. I want one pretty bad to compliment my 110 just doesn’t make sense having the DW 104 as well. Going to pull the trigger on the Frank’s instead to add playful sub 100 to the quiver.

Anyone seen weight/radius for the 188?

Also, [tag=144811]@hot.pocket[/tag] what are the relative capabilities and limitations of the C104 vs the DW104. I’m on the fence for my next ski purchase. Big DW112 guy but am interested in something a bit chargier/more directional for low tide.

I can tell you the dw 104 charges harder than the 112 having both. The core is beech/poplar like the countach so the 104 dw has more back bone. I prefer my 104 over my 112.

the 104 ct has a similar core but more reward directional mount so should have more back bone that my dw 104. Should be faster edge to edge over the dw 104 as well and be more chargy too. Sounds like a super fun ski honestly.

I’m more debating the subjective right now. Would the C104 allow me to lean into it more than a Deathwish while still being easy (not Deathwish easy) to throw sideways to scrub speed/change direction in tight spots? My ski style fluctuates from pretty neutral in tight spots to very forward when terrain opens up. Deathwish is great when standing centered and more upright but I know a more rearward mount would do better when driving the tips. How much will a C104 punish a variable stance? Will the tips put me in the backseat if I try to ski upright?

I'll have production weights here in the next month or so, radii is listed on the website. The Countach 104 has a dual radius sidecut, so the front half is a little smaller, the back half a little bigger, averaging out to 19.5 meters in the 188 length.

So I am a very upright skier who knows how to drive when the time comes. Luke @ Moment is the opposite and is very forward, driving skier who knows how to ski upright. Both of us get along with the Countach 104 just fine, and it allows for that mix of maneuverability in the tighter stuff with the long tail rise, while giving you more ski in front of you (compared to the DW) to really drive it home when you get out into the open.

It's certainly not going to be as pivoty as your DW's, but that's not the point. If you're looking to venture into a more directional shape, without going full blown flat tail -10 mount with little to no tip rocker, the Countach is a great model to enter that category on. I've never been a 'directional' skier, but I'm very happy with a pair of Countach on my feet when I'm feeling extra spicy that day and want to charge a bit harder and with more confidence.

I can still slip and slash it around when we venture into tighter trees or bumps, or my legs are tired and I need to chill out. It's not going to be great if you want to ski neutrally all day long, but you've got the DW for that kind of skiing. In general, I'd say the DW112 + CT104 would make a good combo, as you have a more playful and neutral ski with a wider base for softer snow, and a slimmer, more directional and supportive ski for when you want to drive hard, ski through crud and chop with authority, and lay a cleaner edge on hardpack.

any intent of hitting rails with the franks? just curious. i have found them to be a very fun ski to just jib around the mountain on, especially in the spring

Forsure. Which top sheet do you have?

i’ve got the blue and red ones from 3(?) seasons back and then this past years red/green ish ones. have pretty much decided i don’t want to ever ride a different park ski

I want to get down there sometime. Living in Vancouver it's a relatively easy day trip. I'll have to keep an eye on conditions this spring.

I know that most moment offerings will do just fine as the snow isn't all that different from the Sierras, but want to know what frequent Baker skiers are using

I ride the deathwish 112 at Cypress and occasionally Whistler, I think the snow packs are pretty consistent between those places and Baker. Typically higher moisture content than Sierras but not a lot different. The skis rip in the fresh, slush, lumpy crud, mashed potatoes. They're fine on the firmer rain crust and refreeze hardpack type stuff but don't carve it up like a narrower more cambered ski could potentially.

Have you had to a chance to try the 104? The places where the 112 is just fine is where the 104 really shines.

A while ago some goon was ripping tele on the moment blades. He was passing through with the demo event where I tried some moments. Lowkey might get a tele setup for this season if I cant figure out my boot pain. Heel absolutely killing me so driving the front of the ski and buttering hurts. Will size down first and if that dosn't help I'm stuck to tele.

Tele on the blades is fucking wild.

Tele guys are crazy. So dedicated they will put tele bindings on absolutely anything.

Ya they are. Always hitting the craziest lines knees down. Just looks painful as fuck lol. Blades are wild in general so just couldn’t picture using tele on them
