Moment Skis Discussion Thread

I’ve never recommend someone take the shorter ski, but for you I’d say 176 unless your a very heavy 5’7

I rode the moment wildcat 108 size 184(?) last season and I love how they feel. I’m looking at getting a pair of commander 98s for fast groomer days and chop. Should I lean 182 or 176? I’m 5’7ish advanced skier

I’d say 176 as your height is 170 cm that’s gonna be about 6cm over your head and should provide plenty of support for you in the intended conditions.

for comparison I’m 184cm,175lbs, really strong, like to think I’ve got excellent technique and ski 183-194, got the c98 in 188 (+4cm) on my height, I really only need the 190s for powder, or if there’s a short EE and I’m gonna be charging I’ll upsize, I absolutely cannot ski anything under 183 just feels short.

How did u like the 182s you rode? For comparison, the c98 is gonna ski and feel longer at the same length cause more EE, is more directional, and while it’s got an easy releasing tail, it’s no wildcat

I’m pretty sure the wildcats I rode last season came in at 184 and I like them a lot-probably because of the crazy forward pressure you can put on the boots with a ski that size. I’m 26 and I’ve been skiing 30+ days every year since I was 12 so I’d say I’m solid at this point. The wildcats are the first ski I’ve ridden over 180cm. I had Nordica helldorados which I think are more similar in construction to the commanders (both have stiff layers) and I think they were 174. They smashed but they were also like 114 under foot. Figured the extra length might help for mobbing. Thanks for the replies btw.

Hmmm… maybe get at hot pocket for his opinion, while I said the EE of the commander is longer, it’s barely longer, the c98 is heavier but not a lot, while 12cm over your head is a lot , you may prefer it for your style, I’d let ya demo mine but they’re 188 so might not compare well to the 182.

My final thought would be you may appreciate the 176 as it will still be quite stable , and supportive in softer snow but easier and quicker to change direction, you may appreciate that in terrain that requires last moment changes

Where do you ski?

176-- that's 6cm over your head, plenty regardless but especially for a ski like that that has balls

What’s up pals, back with another addition to the endless debate in size vs size. Adding some fatcats to the family this year but I’m torn between the 179’s and the 184’s.

If my posture is nice and I only had a couple beers the previous night then I’m 5’7” 145lbs.

Currently on some 174 wildcat 108’s which were my first introduction to moment, awesome size for a playful ski. Also on the 174 DW.

Obviously the fatcats will be the storm day skis, hence me sizing up from my go-to. They’ll also be mounted at +2 from the rec line as I prefer the air control and flick ability over the benefits of perfect footing on the sidecut apex.

So what do we think, 179 or 184. I rode a friends 186 governors and obviously it was too big and a directional ski, but it kicked my ass. So I still have some PTSD when I see ski lengths in the 180’s.

I am 5'9 and a little heavier than you and 184 is perfecto for me. I would take the 179 brother

I'm 5'2 (157cm) and 115lbs and happily ride thr 174cm Bibby (the OG wildcat). Go the longer lengths if you're a strong skier.

Sounds like these guys got you, but I'd recommend the 179. Should give you plenty of float without kicking your ass.

Also humble brag but I work at Fire On Thé Mountain in Dover, NH, and we are the newest Moment dealer and the only one east of the Mississippi I believe…. Anyway, anyone in NH MA or ME wanna come by and finger fuck these, please do! We have the Wildcat 101, Wildcat 108 Tour, Deathwish 104, Commander 98 and Sierra! These look even better in person than they do in stock photos.

If they do it I’ll buy one too, been kicking myself for not buying when it was in the reserve category, however I’m not worried, they’ll either do a short run of it in the reserve or build something similar and better

add me to that list ......

(Back)ordered the 174cm Wildcat 101. I'm only 5'2"/157cm. Hope it's not too much ski for me as an everyday ski. I previously had the PB&J 172cm and have some OG Bibby's in 174cm. Love(d) them both, so I'll probably be fine?

101 Wildcat 174 = direct replacement for PB&J 172

You'll be plenty fine.

Man I’ve been refreshing the page for the DWT in 184 waiting for new stock to show up.

I turned 30 and am ready for a dedicated touring ski, but like the years I let the preorder stock slip right by me like a chump.

If I email you will you tell me when I can buy a backup pair of meridians, thanks

good night, god bless x

I'd email myself if it meant I'd get a backup set.

Jokes aside, it will eventually return to the reserve collection, even if I have to build every damn part myself after hours.

Kev sent me pictures of the shiny new gear. Making my wait for the 179 restock painful too.

Gonna have a blast on those out west after skiing those other super east coast oriented skis.

Sounds like the Commander 108 is the ticket for you based on your description of your skiing style [absolute chargers, stable and fast - which caters to my style more than something surfy and playful]. You can certainly charge on the Deathwishes, I do from time to time and rarely feel like I'm holding on for dear life, but those of us who like to ski fast and straight, the Commander 108 is more aptly suited.

Could also consider the Deathwish 104, as it's a chunk stiffer than the Deathwish 112 and feels like a Deathwish with some Commander blood in it.

Just spent 2 days on the d104 in 190. From 8”-18” wet pow, chunder ,some wind blown hardpack, corduroy, trees, park, slopes, mtb trails the d104 hauls ass man, it’s rather stable, soooo easily to release, carves hard and is moderately easy to flick around, blows thru crap and slashes like a pow ski hands down my new fav

far as the new c98, I’d rather ski an mpro, the mpro is easier to ski, find myself reaching for them more sorry moment

Loving the new skis. But do you guys use a different edge material now? I've got 4-5 days on them, and without knowingly having hit anything bad, and have two weird jagged dents on the edges already.

On the flip side, was skiing some trees and landed quite firmly on a small tree stump, which resulted in absolutely zero damage to the bases

Same edge material as before, base was upgraded a season or two ago though.

How are the wildcats (or maybe the deathwish?) as a primarily east coast all mountain freestyle ski? I don’t want a really soft ski, I’m considering a wildcat 101 to complement my park ski when I’m doing a primarily all mountain freestyle day.

I’m curious, what did you do to the bases? Are they still 1.3mm 4001 durasurf or am I misremembering?

Went from 1.5mm 4001 Durasurf to 1.5mm 7500 series carbon infused UHMWPE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene). Tested it a few seasons ago and were very pleased with the speed, wax retention, durability and repairability of it over what we were previously using, so we made the switch.

Thanks for the info, definitely interesting to know! I believe J Skis is also using UHMWPE, but at 1.8mm.

Are the moment bases sintered as well?

Sintered. J does use 1.8mm base, but personally we feel 1.5mm is plenty durable for our applications and doesn't add unnecessary weight to the ski.

Yeah whatever Moment's old base material was was really bad. That stuff was about as durable as tissue paper. I don't know about your new material but I would be hesitant to take the chance.

The old base was the same base ON3P currently uses lol albeit a little bit less beefy by a few mm

No chance the durasuft 4001 is pretty damn good. That's the toughest base they made before this new 7500 series.

The 4001 might not be the fastest base out there, but it was definitely one of the toughest. You must weight like 200+ and be charging rock lines, because the 4001 durasurf is definitely nothing like tissue paper.

Curious to see this 7500 series carbon base though.

I guess. This is 2 seasons use. I've stopped putting money into them because they seem to be incurably base high. I've had similar issues with my old pbj's too. Meanwhile my 4frnt and k2's have no coreshots at all. I dunno maybe just bad luck when I ride my moments.
