Mega Beer Thread

Ratebeer is pretty cool, but I find it overly pretencious. I find a lot of the really good scoring beers are really tastey, but not something I could drink all the time. I don't think I've used it enough though!

I've had some of the Yard beers, the IPA and probably something else while travelling the Eastern United States 5 or so years ago. I can't recall them too well, except that it was the first real IPA I had, I liked it.

Yuengling is pretty good, I don't find it lived up to the hype, but that would have been impossible I think.

I get smithwick's sometimes on Draught at a place not far from my house. It was the first legal beer I've ever had.

I've had magic hat, definitely one of the best American beers I've had. I am not sure which one it was though.

How did you get La Fin Du Monde? I didn't think that would exist in your neck of the woods, its brewed in Quebec and we get it where I live, not far from there. Its pretty strong, and I'm not a huge fan of strong beers.... too sweet usually. Holstein makes a beer around 7 or 8% and that's the strongest beer I really like. The worst beer I've ever had is probably Bavaria 8.6, well, one of the worst anyway.

If you ever make it to Tremblant, they have a microbrew pub there, "L' Diablo". If you like Fin Du Monde, they make a beer called something like "L' Diablo" and it's similar to Fin Du Monde, I think you'd like that.

I forgot the following winners:

Stone Arrogant Bastard

Legacy Hedonism

Russian River (ANYTHING)

It's pretty clear that if the beer is loaded with

a.) hops

b.) alcohol

I'm going to fuckin love it.

I drive to the Yard's brewery basically every friday after classes. (Any 24 beers - $20) can't beat it.

I've been to the Victory brewery where I had a Hop Devil out of a CASK. Shit yeah.

I'm planning a trip to the Dogfish Head brewery as soon as classes end next week. Should be a good time.

Beer, beer, beer.

I can't remember how much I have had,

I drank a twelve pack with my dad, BURP!

That's my son the drunken manly stud,

I'm proud to be his bud,

Here have some pretzels,

No!

I'll call it quits,

Those things give me the Schlitz!

Drink with your family,

Drink it with your friends,

Drink till you're fat,

Stomach distends,

Beer is liquid bread it's good for you,

We like to drink till we spew,

EW

Who cares if we get fat,

I'll drink to that,

As we sing once more.

The most wonderful drink in the world.

Hooray.

My favourites are all ales, although there are a couple of lagers i like to have on a hot day. Favourite ales are Black Sheep, the locally brewed stuff (Kelham Island Brewery), and Fursty Ferret. Lagers are definatley Grolsch and Carlsberg Export.

beer is the only alcohol i drink. i love it more than i'll love my firstborn.

my favourite is kooteany pale ale. i keep it local, yo.

i cant llegally drink since im only 16 so the only beer i know is miller light budweiser and coors and out of those i like miller the best heiniken i drink on occasions

beer is the greatest. liquor has its advantages, like conveneince in that you can just drink a little bit and get fucked up. but when you dont have to worry about anything and you have time to chill and kill some brews its the best.

my favorite beer ever is kalik gold, i think you can only get it in the bahamas. even kalik light is bettert than any other beer ive ever had

for someone who claims they know so much about beer, you'd think you knew that Budweiser was actually originally brewed in Czech Republic...

its a different recipe, in Czech it is Budvar or Budwar depending on pronunciation or spelling, Bud in Europe is much better then American, at least in Germany, but that may be due to the Bavarian Purity Standards

Hey, someone already messaged me about this. I guess I should have picked a better example as there is some confusion with this issue. There doesn't seem to be one "right" answer but I'll post our message exchange. Hopefully this helps your understanding.

KingShit --> Maximumsushi

Bro how do you expect me to believe what you are saying about beers when you don't even know where the hell Budweiser originated from?

Maximumsushi --> KingShit

Budweiser original from Germany is a totally different beer recipe than the one currently brewed by Annheiser-Busch. They don't even have the same ingredients.

KingShit --> Maximumsushi

Germany? Bro come on, Czech Republic.

Maximumsushi --> KingShit

Nah, sorry, that's where a lot of confusion comes from. The word Budweiser is actually German meaning coming from Czech Republic. It was one of the first German pilsiners. At the time, Pilsiner's were a fairly new concept (as were top fermented beers) so it was a way for the Germans to say "New Style Beer" more or less. It basically meant pilsiner. The other Budweiser is currently brewed in the Czech Republic though, you are right about that, but the beer and word Budweiser both come from Germany.

I see what you are saying but to settle this confusion read the above link.

Maximumsushi --> KingShit

Yeah, I have been reading a couple things. I just pulled out a book I have regarding the history of beer. The very first times the "Budweiser" name was used, was by Germans making this new type of beer after it was discovered. There's more too it than that too.

The first beer to actually call its self "Budweiser" officially, no changes in the name or variations, was made by the Burgess Brewery which is Czech with ironically, a German brewer.

Then of course there is Budweiser Budvar as you mentioned too. The problem is that it was basically another name for Pilsiner for quite some time.

I think that clears everything up for both of us. I don't think it really matters.

The whole thing is pretty confusing, perhaps I shouldn't have used that as an example.

In my original post, I was talking about the American Budweiser. I realize that there have been several other Budweisers through-out the years but I figured most people would know I didn't mean Budweiser Budvar, because after all, I didn't type Budweiser Budvar.

i pay for it man and usauly its whatever my bro has from the night before...and maybe my tastebuds havent matured but i kinda like cheap beer

Ohh i'll weigh into the fray, I have been to several CAMRA beer festivals in my time in England and Scotland, which is a great way to try dozens of beers right from the kegs, with the company owners with them. That being said i lean towards a good bitter, something that i have never found here in Calgary.

My favourite Macro-brew bitter would be out of Edinburgh (where i spent last summer, and had many samples of)and it is Deuchars Caledonian 80-

I do also enjoy John Smiths and had the pleasure of drinking it at the brewery.

For micro-beers in England i enjoyed Grainstore bitter, out of the Grainstore micro-brewery in Rutland.

While at home here, i enjoy both big rock and sleamans if im feeling rich, but generally drink good old vitamin P (Pilsner the one with the bunnies) or Kokanee. I will admit to slumming it alot and drinking large quantities of Lucky Extra which i think is the best cheap strong beer.

TO anyone who is considering attending Oktoberfest in Munich i have to say do it!!! It was one of the coolest experiences of my life, if tempted i will post pics and expand on this later. I think that is enough for this post, i look forward to seeing opinions on my picks of beers.

Mate, how about Australian beers? Cascade, James Boags and Crown Lager lead the way, but we also have shitty beers like fosters, xxxx, and melbourne bitter, Tasmanian beer owns mainland Australian beer for sure

Oh man, post the pics! I am going to do that some day.

For the big rock and sleeman's, those are my two favourite Canadian brewers I think, well, large scale ones anyway. I didn't get to try everything from Bigrock but I was surprised by their Warthog ale. I drink sleemans quite a bit, but you get a lot more in Calgary than we get out here. We only get the cream, honey brown, clear, dark, and original draught. The original draught is tasteless swill, even more so than something like coors light. I have never bothered with the clear. How do you like the seasonal Sleeman's? I had the amber and found it pretty good.

Like I said before, I like John Smiths, its a good way to try an ale if they've never had it before. Do you like Tetly's Ale?

oh dude crown larger is the most amazing shit.

but yes tazzie beers rock, same with southwark premium (cant believe it comes from the same brewery as west end) and coopers pale on tap.

my favourite imported beer is hoegaarden - its yet another belgum beer packed full f freaky shit

i would SOOOO much rather slurp down a couple brews then spark a couple joints. i mean dont get me wrong i love my marijuana but alcohol and beer specifically is just so much better

This thread needs more sexy girls drinking beer.

my cousin went to oktoberfest and came home with bruises between her thump and index finger cuz the beers are so burley

its hard to say which beer is my favorite because some beers taste better in certain conditions (i.e. magic hat saint gootz would suck on a hot summer day)

but anyways my top 3 good beers:

1. magic hat humble patience

2. stella artois

3. dogfish head raison d'etre

my top 3 cheap/awesome beers:

1. pbr

2. icehouse

3. high life

Arrg i knew someone would make me post the pics, i will have to go find them, i need a site to host pics. Any suggestions ? Also as far as tetleys go that was a huge mistake my not including them, that was the beer i was weaned on in England, Tetley shandies (yeah its pussy but its all that was legal, i normally got away with pints but not always) I need to add that to my top macro-brew bitters!!!

I actually drove an hour to get a case of Bell's (only place in PA they sell it).

I've heard good things about their expedition stout as well.

Any Lager drinkers? If so, try Fort Collins Brewery. I'm not in the mood to wirte a novel, but every beer they make is a lager, even their wheat style beer (Pomegranite Wheat). I know it sounds weird, but I highly reccomend at least sampling all of their beers.

The usual beers I drink are Guiness, Tommyknocker Maple Nut, Tommyknocker Jackwhacker Wheat, PBR, 1554, Dillon Dam Brewery has some good beer but I never remember the names, Bass, Yuengling Black/Tan. So many more that I am forgetting. I guess you can see that I like flavorful ales.

I am in no way a beer expert(I=18 years young) but when i was in St. Martin for spring break this year, i loved a beer called Presedente. I was wondering if you have heard of it? it could have been a good beer, just a break from the millions of budwiser and bud light we had on our sailboat, or just a beer that i am attached too b/c it was the "beer of spring break". I was also wondering if you know anything about the Hofbrau House? we have one here in newport, KY and supposedly the only other one is in Germany. I dont know if this has changed in the past 5 - 6 years, but basically my question was if you have tried their brew and how does it compare to others(if you have tried it)?

When I'm legal-age I'll try some new stuff, but as of right now I'm really liking:

Cerveja da Brahma

I've only ever had:

- Cerveja da Brahma (delicious)

- Molson Canadian (good)

- Labatt Genuine (good)

- Budweiser (Ok)

- Samuel Adams Boston Lager (grossss)

and some others that I just don't feel like remembering.

Any one try Beer Lao?? So far i haven't found it outside of cambodia and laos. One of the best beers i've had no doubt.

Some of my other fav's:

-420

-wet coast

-AGD (cause it's so cheap)

-PBR (only american beer i've had that is good)

-Maudite (best strong beer)

I'm english so i guess i should like good beer.also i live about 20 minutes away from the bodingtons and thwaites' brewery but i am more of a carling drinker...i think i have blahsphemed.
