As people have pointed out, pedophilia is a completely different issue. Polygamy isn't as disconnected in that it would still be between consenting adults, but anybody who uses that as an argument is falling back on slippery slope and is thus an idiot who isn't actually making a logical point.

I understand why people follow a religion, and I think they have a "certain unalienable right" to worship in a way that doesn't take away anyone else's "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness". People like MarryO I'm sure would brag about being a loyal citizen, and being a follower of the ideals that the USA was founded on but still hates the idea of gays having, "Certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness".

Granted when this was wrote MarryO wouldn't be anything more then a servant with no rights what soever, and I'm sure Jefferson had slaves.

And by the way the bible isn't real... Its an allegory.





Anyone ever think of why we worship the cross? And no... Its not because thats what Jesus died on, but rather is a pagan symbol stolen from polytheistic religions much like all of Christianity.

i can see her view of marriage as a religiously tied word. Why can't gays have their own form of marriage that just has a different name and doesn't happen in a church. Or they could have their own type of church, as long as their "marriage" gets the same benefits as a normal one, I don't see why this wouldn't work.
 
Because the law would have to recognize both unions as the same term. No one has to get married in church or have religious ties in order for their marriage to be recognized by the state.

A lot of problem that opponents of gay marriage see is that both are being recognized under the same name, thereby somehow diminishing the meaning or "sanctity" of the term marriage from a heterosexual couple's viewpoint.

Also, some of the opponents just don't want to see homosexual couples receive the same benefits as heterosexual couples because, "That shit's just fucking gay and pisses me off....."
 
Well yes whatever term was chosen for gay marriage would have to technically be the same as marriage itself for it to be recognized, but as long as it is called something else wouldn't a decent amount of religious people be fine with it?
 
But the connection is irrelevant ..... The problem isn't the connection; the problem is the people who are 'offended' feel that they have the right to impose their beliefs upon other people.
 
i can't understand that people are arguing over a word, used by all religions when speaking english...a word that defines something that was around long, long before modern religion, if that is the best argument that anti gay-marriage people can come up I don't understand how there is any dispute at all, pathetic.
 
never said i was anti-gay marriage, but thousands of people are and nobody is convincing them that marriage isn't holy anytime soon, so that is why I threw my idea out there for both sides.
 
I van honestly say I don't mind gay people, they can do whatever the fuck they want. Though, what pisses me off is when someone is gay and they use that to make them popular and think they're better than everyone because of their sexuality. There is one kid from around where I live like that. Otherwise who gives a flying fuck and a half?

I think it's ridiculous when people claim that they're against it simply because they believe marriage is a sacred covenant. Most of these people have no problem with the state of marriage, which many times is damn far from anything sacred. Even for the people who don't agree with divorce, vegas weddings, and all of that, you don't see people crying on facebook, sending tons of money, and bitching nonstop to keep that from happening.

All of the sudden when it involves gay people THEN suddenly the sanctity of marriage becomes the most important issue in the world.

If I married a dude how would that hurt your life? You don't know me, why would it matter? Why should other people be oppressed because they don't fit into your personal beliefs?

The religious objections are so pick and choose. There are plenty of things in the bible that you probably don't practice. What makes gay marriage such a big issue that people with be fueled to crusade against it for generations to come?

I just don't get it.

So 2 gay people get married, they get government benefits, and shit, that's about it. They just go on living, and so will you. No alien space ships crashing into earth, nuclear explosions, and no vampires hiding in your basements. Simply, some people get married, just like other people get married, and those people go on living.

I just can't grasp why that's so hard to understand?

well, its not ONLY acheived through marriage but say, a pashtun person of islam is probably more inclined to perform namz (i forgot the exact term, but its a cerimony where a holy man kills a lamb and the meat is divided between the poor, friends, and family.) then some random atheist. not saying helping poor is not done by atheists, but religion certainly is an incentive.

Deuteronomy 22:13-21

So if you're going to use the bible as a way to hate on gay marriage why don't you look at your wife, or for the ladies, look at yourself, and think long and hard about if yourself or your marriage is "right" in the eyes of god.

I'm not even religious and I know this, but it seems that all you fucking homophobes aren't as religious and great that you make yourselves out to be.

If 2 women or 2 men want to be with each other and be happy just like all the straight people THEN WHY NOT? HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOUR LIFE?

Well there are rules and basic guidelines in religions that dictate how you should treat others and yourself that many peaceful religious people follow. I'm not saying everyone in a certain religion follows these guidelines but many do so that's at least one positive.
 
No gay marriage? No sex before marriage? and no fried clams and shrimp? Religion is derp.

Also it's funny how during lent when you're not supposed to eat meat on Fridays people eat seafood, and such. Just proves how fucking ignorant people are.
