MARY O'NEIL DOESNT SUPPORT GAY MARIAGE

Whether or not they mean to or realise it, they are limiting gay people's rights, and peoples personal religious beliefs shouldn't be pushed on other people. Refer to my last post.
 
People will argue that it will lead to more tolerance on things that society still doesn't accept such as pedophilia. If 2 men can get married why not an older man and a younger women. You may say that is to far fetched and too extreme but the same thing was said about gays.
 
this is half in response to your last post, and just to let you know, im not religious, and i do support gay marriage, im just defending people who do not support it.

anyways, i dont think the MLK argument relates very well to the gay marriage issue. Im all about equality and all that, but not to the point where it interferes with common sense. between races, yeah, we are all equal, and should all be treated equally. between men and women? well we arent equal, men and women are very different in a lot of ways, physically and mentally. men do certain things better than women, and women do certain things better than men, and i think a society should treat each sex in a way to reflect that, doesnt necessarily mean you have to treat one better or worse, just differently. and sure there are definitely the occasional man or woman who happens to be able to do the other sex's job just as well, and we should certainly be open to that.

so before i get off topic, i think the marriage issue is definitely pretty gender related, we have gender specific laws and rights, and gender specific cultural norms. and marriage is definitely all about what genders CAN get married. in our society, marriage has always been between a man and a woman, not only because religion plays a big part in our society, but because it makes sense, you need a relationship between a man and a woman to have babies, continue the family genes and name, and continue humanity. thats long been our reasoning in OUR culture for defining marriage as between a man and a woman, its a human nature, gender related practice. when you throw in two dudes, it doesnt really work/apply, its a different kind of union that only partly applies to what we have always considered marriage. even as a gay marriage supporter, i still dont really "get" gay marriage, i still view marriage as a man and woman thing, i just happen to be ok with it if two dudes get married.

anyway i understand cultural norms change, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. but cultural norms are definitely necessary, and important, they are part of what defines our rights and laws. and im glad that we have people on both sides to change them when they need to change, and stop them from changing just for the sake of keeping up with the times.

 
Grow up. She is just as entitled to her beliefs as you are to your own. The fact that you took something a very well loved mother said on Facebook and made a call out thread vehemently blasting her personal opinion is so ignorant. She is such a kind woman, don't disrespect her.
 
I have never understood the whole homosexual-pedophilia connection some people seem to draw. There is no logic at all in saying "so now what, because 2 men can legally marry each other, what will happen next? People being able to have sex with children???" Newsflash: homosexuals arent pedophiles. Pedophiles are pedophiles.

This thread sickens me, its so foreign to me to see people as their sexual orientation instead of an actual fellow human being. The heterosexual norm is ridiculous.
 
There also seems to be significantly more evidence to suggest my opinion is fact than evidence to suggest same-sex marriage will have a negative impact on, well...anybody. You ARE fucking stupid if you believe gay marriage is a bad thing.
 
I agree with her for a few reasons. First off I would like to state that I more conservative in my views, but I am also pretty open minded with most topics. So, to begin, I don't have a problem with gay people at all. However if the said gay person is flamboyant and really lets you know that they are gay, that is where I draw the line. This being said, If a man and another man want to get married, fine by me, unless it isn't because they actually love each other. If anyone has seen "I now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry", they weren't actually gay but claimed they were to get financial benefits. Now when people get married for those reasons, that is when I have a problem. I also think that marriage is to be between a man and a woman, as it is stated in the Bible. Honestly, I don't go to church more than 3 times a year, but going to a Catholic high school, forced to take religion class for 3 years has taught me something. I do not really think that gay marriage, if the two people are truly in love, is a problem, but when it is for financial benefits I must disagree.
 
Hugh Heffner? Has lived with at least 9 25- girls, all while hes been over 70. Id say society has accepted that very well, but we still can't accept that a man and a man can love each other.

What about straight people who throw the fact that they are straight in your face, whether it's a guy bragging about how many drunk girls he fucked last week or a girl talking about how many dicks she squeezed in her mouth at the frat party last night? I don't see you making objection to them getting married.

What about straight people who get married for financial benefits? Because, you know, that NEVER happens. EVER.

You don't go to church, but believe gay marriage is wrong because of the fucking bible? What about pre-marital sex, tattoos, or all the other shit you probably do that you don't consider "sinful?" You're a fucking hypocrite and a joke of a human being.
 
Yeah it's a weird connection but it's not completely unreasonable. If it was consensual and they were truly in love what's your argument against it?

A child hasn't fully developed the mental capacity to realize that it isn't love, it's a sick pedo taking advantage of them for his (or her) personal benefit. Every 13 year old girl thinks she's in love with her first crush. If a creepy old dude starts giving her presents and telling her he loves her, she might think she loves him too, without even understanding what's going on. Kids are fucking stupid. How do you not see the difference between this and two same-sex individuals who want the same rights as a married straight couple enjoy.
 
So again I'm for gay marriage arguing another's point. You don't understand that not all pedophiles are rapists and some are consensual. You still didn't provide an argument if they are truly in love and if it is consensual.
 
By that logic how can all the gay kids at my school actually no they are gay. They are too young to know what they want and can't actually determine that they are gay
 
The thing about the whole pedophile argument is pretty damn dumb. As it stands, straight people can get married if they are of a certain age. That is, they are of an age where they can enter the legally binding contract of marriage. Children can't enter this contract with straight people can they? So if gay marriage is legalized, they can marry because they are of an age to enter said legally binding contract. Children cannot enter such contracts, so there is no argument here. I've heard the argument with animals too, but animals cannot enter legally binding contracts!!!

Pedophilia is an age issue, its meant to protect children from predators. Until a certain age kids aren't really trusted to have enough of an education or enough of a sense of responsibility to make decisions like whether or not to have sex, whether or not to drink alcohol or to smoke cigarettes, watch pornography, go to nightclubs etc.

These are things that exist in the adult realm because adults have a level of world experience that they are able to draw on, as well as fully developed bodies and minds. Homosexuality is an issue of mutually consenting adults being allowed to do something that is not harming anyone else. Pedophilia is an issue of children being preyed upon by older, more experienced individuals who are both authority figures in the eyes of a child, and much more educated.

The difference is that age of consent exists to protect children, while gay marriage does not exist because it makes some people uncomfortable that two people of the same sex can have a healthy, long-lasting relationship.

Pedophilia is a primary or exclusive interest in pre-pubescent children. Its not like a 16 year old kid who has at least partially gone through puberty doesn't know what he/she is sexually attracted to. If a 16 year old girl and a 30 year old man decide to have a realtionship... Then its unusual, but its not pedophilia (although it is not necessarily healthy for both parties, or legal).How can you expect a pre-pubescent child to have a sexual attraction to someone though? Your comparisons are ridiculous and have nothing to do with each other.

While we're on this topic, my dads gay it's not like he's a flaming f****t like people perceive gays to be. This thread is bullshit.
