MARY O'NEIL DOESNT SUPPORT GAY MARIAGE

Okay I may have over-reacted/ reacted to quickly. I was practically asleep when I read an IM with the link to this thread. I read the OP post, and jumped to the conclusion it was going to be a "hate" thread towards me and my stand on marriage, when in fact it appears its just opened up an area of discussion amongst you

I'm going to TRY and stay out of this thread, as topics like this are highly sensitive. I don't want to come on NSers to add more conflict to my life.

Since I posted that comment on FB, and then deleted it a few hours ago, I've actually prayed on the subject of gay marriage and my attitude towards it. During our family dinner, me and my kids ( all teenagers, and a 21 yr old) talked about the subject. I've already become more accepting of it, or at least calmed down. I can't change the ruling, and holding resentment and anger towards the decision will only hurt myself and make me a mean person. So I've decided to try and Let go, and let live.

Okay I've settled down now. Going to bed. Peace.

"I like gay people I just don't want them to have the same rights I have."

separate but equal is never equal because the separation implies an inferiority.

I don't think it would be a good idea for me to frequent the non-ski gabber forum. As you can tell, I take things too personally, and often I'm hypersensitive to negative remarks made towards me. It's just my nature. I don't handle conflict well, and like to avoid topics that can turn ugle, like politics and religion. I'm definetaly in the minority here, and I'm not just talking about my age.

This. Thank you for taking into consideration the shitstorm of advice NS gave you. I understand that your religion obviously plays a part in your opinion on marriage, and I can respect that. At the same time, we must all remember that we live in an ever changing world and the new generations' opinions may be drastically different than that of their elders. Thanks for owning up MaryO, and I look forward to more videos from you next season!

Denying any sort of rights to any american citizen isn't conservative, its just fucking wrong. You can sit here and say OMG NS IS SO LIBERAL but really its just fucking common sense and giving everyone equal rights. Slavery used to be a conservative believe too.

*belief

Saying you are against gay marriage because your conservative means you just don't like gay people. christian republicans need to wake the fuck up, its not 1850 anymore, god doesn't run the country.

I can respect that opinion, However If you're saying gay people can't legally have a union Get tax benefits or put themselves on each other's insurance policies. I then start to get mad

Just remember it's not as slanted to one side as it seems. We conducted a poll during the election because people were saying that republicans on this site were outnumbered ten to one. Turns out the actual numbers were around 38% republican, 55% democrat, and 7% other.

But yes the majority is Liberal

Fair enough, by definition they are definitely liberal (but think about the states where the majority of skiers live, WA OR CA NY NH ME VT) but to say gay people cant get married and claim thats your political view is absolute horse shit.

Hardcore Jesus freak republicans refuse to deprecate church and state, hence all these "political views" based off nothing but what their bible and priest say.

It's not because you said something that wasn't liberal - it's because you said something stupid. Your argument was incredibly poorly reasoned, lacking in any sort of logical thought and based upon things that are demonstrably untrue. Because of that is was deservedly attacked and when it was you weren't able or willing to defend what you had said.

Homosexuality is naturally occurring in a certain proportion of the human population. Homosexual behaviours have been documented throughout the history of mankind. Homosexual behaviour has also been witnessed in a huge number of different animals. How the fuck is it not natural?

Yes but MLK was a republican as well as Lincoln. The parties have changed so vastly its bullshit to associate slavery with republicans

Wait what? This had nothing to do with what I said, I was backing up MaryO. As for the statement I made earlier, I already surrendered because I realized that the Internet beat me.

alright fine, ill take that back, you make a good point.

But still, you gotta admit that the separation of church and state has been pretty non existent since 1787.

Well yeah it's not nearly as signifigant as it used to be when it was written. The only thing i dislike about gay marriage is that its forcing churches to marry gays in a lot of ways which is not very cool in my eyes. But I mean whatever they have to adapt.

I don't think it forces any churches to marry anybody. It just lets gay couples attain the legal status of marriage and the benefits that come with it. None of that has to do with church.

I'm conflicted on this point (if it's true). I don't think the state should be able to tell a religious institution who it has to marry but I also don't agree that a church can turn away a couple wanting to get married based on sexual orientation.

is this actually happening?

I honestly have no clue. This issue is really insignifigant to me compared to all the other shit that is going down. I only know what i read which is very little on this topic.

I don't think it is. I haven't heard of any instances and I feel like that would be a major point of contention that would have been reported on many times

or after 10pm.

last year in college, the school called a snow day at like 11pm. Everyone was pissed because the liquor stores were already closed and they couldn't get their party juice.

I know the same sex marriage bill in Minnesota that just passed has protections for religious freedom so churches and synagogues etc are not obliged to marry same sex couples. I'm not sure if all same sex marriage legislation contains the same sort of protections but it would make sense if they did.

This. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who hates hearing this. Just because someone expresses themselves in a fashion that isn't the norm, which I don't find much different from how some of us may dress on the hill, doesn't meant they should be revered as any less of a person. Not to mention the double standard for girls, you don't see many people going around complaining about girls acting too butch to this extent. /rant

No one gives a fuck about your sacred covenant between a man and a women. Separation of church and state, marriage in this sense is about equal rights giving all men and women regardless of their sexual orientation the chance to share the same rights you and your husband have. Your church is free to do whatever they want, no one is trying to impeded on your close minded religious ideologies.

And yes learn to adapt... I can't believe you're so traditional and conservative that just using the word marriage in a legal sense is making you so butt hurt that you actually vote against the idea gay people shouldn't be allowed the same rights as you? Like it is that big of a deal, that sacred covenant is so sacred that you are willing for thousands of other people in this country to suffer and be treated as inferior citizens just so your damn word remains sacred?

I will admit I don't think you hate gay people, or are in anyway a bigot per say, but I just think you're an extremely close minded and selfish person.

no... they care about the privileges that the legal status of being married brings. The ceremonies do nothing in the eyes of the law... gay people can already have marriage ceremonies, they have them all the time. Its the legal recognition by the state that they care about.

and if you're trying to bring up the point that ceremonies are important to SOME gay people... well yeah OBVIOUSLY. but thats not what they're fighting for... don't be a nitpicky bitch

No. He's expressing his opinion - whether you agree with it or not is irrelevant. You can't just ban someone because you're offended by his opinion.

Honestly, I wouldn't expect much more from a likely uneducated, bible-banging, 50 something year old woman who desperately tries to hang out with the "young, hip skier kids," but it's still fucking pathetic. She should be ashamed of herself. Perhaps she should just stick to posts gargling Tommadoodoo Whimperdickle's testicles in hopes that she may avoid further embarrassment.
