For those who haven't seen it, the federal government is considering putting it up to the states to legalize, tax and regulate cannabis. What we can do is send our senators a letter encouraging them to support this idea. I've already emailed a CT senator and received a very warm message back.

Here is a link to a pre-written message that you just need to fill out personal information to send. I highly encourage anyone who supports this to do so.

word i just heard about this in the 420cult. Pretty smart move by the government imo.

treat it just like alcohol.

For those of you that don't know this was proposed by Representatives Ron Paul (R-Texas) and Barney Frank (D-Mass).

Chances are, this bill probably won't even make it out of committee. That said, it is a good sign of moving in the right direction.

I for one do not smoke anymore. My support for this, or any other like-minded bill, comes from the belief in freedom of choice and that adults don't need their hands held in making those choices.

This is a step in the right direction. Yes it should be legalized anyway but if the govt taxes it like alcohol it will bring a ton of new revenue. Billions.

I personally do. I would more than love to grow my own bud and would now if it weren't illegal. It is a lot of work but its worth it if you know what you're doing.

If there were to be companies inducing nicotine to our pot, I would absolutely avoid it. I don't think this will pass, I know it will eventually.

not to threadjack, but i often hear this but i have a hard time believing that it will be the norm. atleast i hope not! anyone have any facts showing that companies actually plan on doing this?

it makes a lot of sense to remove federal regulation of marijuana from our society. federal regulation of the ganja has been a total failure, and extremely expensive. It is about time that we start to take a serious look at the way we regulate marijuana; it is a waste of money, and an in-justice to all the smokers out there.

I take it like this:

Growers would make tremendously less money, but live without the fear of being busted, but will possibly able to start large scale grow ops and open the marijuana equivalent to a package store. Now they might take in a reasonable amount per year instead of 500k for no work.

wow guys stop with smoking, drinking, taking drugs. just live a normal life, have fun, spend your money on things that really worth it. drugs only gives you an illusion.

Not gonna do much.

Gotta stop voting for clowns. People gotta wake up and stop being fucking retarded, then demand real change. Really isn't that complicated. Only problem is the state of the american people as a whole

I'm under the firm impression that it's all fucked up at the moment...

those fucking dinosaurs are just going to be lobbied to death and let big business get their way with everything from now till the proletariat revolution... (It will probs happen.. since, it actually hasnt really happened the way marx ever envisioned it...)

Yup. Need the people as a whole to get their heads out of their asses, figure shit out, and stand up for it.

The system is so trashed, but nobody does anything about it. They bitch then continue voting into it. It's a damn shame. It's the peoples job to keep the gov in check, but people are fucking stupid, ignorant, lazy, straight dumb, noobish, and scarred

It's the peoples job to keep the government in check, but the government tells the people what to believe. We are at the stage where the people are discovering what the truth is and demand a change to reflect the truth. Now that world leaders have began to take some preliminary action, and some countries have taken appropriate or even extreme measures in the right direction and shown an overwhelming and unexpected success, more people are starting to see the light.

I wonder what the standard for intoxication while driving would be, and how they'd measure it

I would say it is pretty likely that CO and CA will be legal after 2012. I'm signed up to start volunteering with sensible Colorado and the people there seem like they have a decent plan.

the time has finally come. after making so many stupid fucking decisons the government is actually doing something smart. i heard that theyll start selling alot for cheap so they get it off the street its gunna be sweeet

Why not? If you're driving fine, why should they pull you over in the first place?

If you're driving like an idiot and swerving all over, and you're high they should.

Simple

the question is once they pull you over how do they determine if you're high or not? they can't just go by red eyes or goofy mumbling. thats not sufficient evidence

Meh I'm pretty sure it's sufficient, but there's (supposedly) no way to measure intoxication at any specific moment in time. The shitty thing is that, as of right now, they can just drug test you and charge you for it if you're positive, which fucking sucks seeing as the only thing that test indicates is that you've smoked in the last two or three weeks.

But I'm pretty sure there won't ever be a way to measure the level of intoxication when it comes to weed.

I do think a good idea would be u were forced to use a vaporizer or eatables so then u can save ur lungs more in the long run then there would be almost nothing bad with the use of Marijuana.

It would actually make it harder for kids to get it. You ever noticed how much easier to get weed than it is to get alcohol underage?
