"An 18-year-old man and woman were killed in last night's shooting incident in Hyvinkää. Seven were injured, and one of the injured is a 23-year-old policewoman in critical condition.

The police caught the 18-year-old suspect early Saturday morning from the woods a few miles from the city center, clad in fatigues.

The incident began at about 2AM last night, when the shooter opened fire on the people grouped outside clubs Amarillo and Level 5 from the roof of the adjacent building. The shooter had a miniature rifle and a high-caliber rifle, both which he had no permits for and had acquired from people close to him.

His criminal record is "nearly clean" according to police.

All the victims are young adults. There is not known motive yet and the police are not sure if the shooter knew his victims. The incident is being investigated as murder and attempted murder."

The rifle found on the roof.

This is definitely a first for Finland, if I recall correctly. Pre-meditated shooting spree from a roof with a rifle, not good. As for the motive, my friend who lives in Hyvinkää has been hearing that the guy in question didn't get in to the club last night and shortly after this went down. Not sure of course, but plausible.

There's a reform coming up in Finnish Gun Laws soon enough and one of the amendments that has been touted to become stricter is the storage of permitted weapons, having mandatory-strength locks, cabinets etc. and even only allowed on the premises of gun clubs, shooting and hunting ranges. After something like this, it will probably be pushed through with flying colors.

Sad stuff.

Wow. That's really sad to hear. It's incredible how often shootings like this happen; shootings without an acutal 'motive' as far as you can call it that.

Guns only lead to misery, ban that shit altogether asap if you ask me.

There are a lot of Amarillo chain night clubs in Finland, owned by the S-Group commerce conglomerate.

It's a jazzy name, I guess.

The shooter has admitted knowing one of the victims beforehand, the 18-year-old guy who died this morning in the hospital.

Exactly lol! Some people are so clueless.......Americans are lucky as fuck to have a 2nd amendment. Why would you trust a pig to have guns but not yourself?

Well, he's right. If the weapons were stored in a single location under heavy/tough guard, such as in a hunting club or shooting range, he wouldn't have gotten his hands on weapons last night and maybe this would have never happened.

since every criminal ever has had a license to carry, been trained, and uses a licensed, registered weapon.

Guns will be used for illegal purposes no matter what. Maybe not as widespread which is a good thing, but they will be used.

The thing about this guy is that he has no affiliation with any extreme groups, no agendas, just yesterday was having fun celebrating in the park with his friends, a very social and accepted person in the community - no clear signs of the "normal" serial killers of Finland.

He was just pushed over the edge for some reason yesterday...

Really sad story the fact that he just snapped and wasn't affiliated with any extremist groups just proves there will always be crazy, evil people who will hurt or kill incocent people no matter what. Stricter gun laws won't prevent this stuff it will just hurt responsible gun owners while criminals and crazy people will either use different weapons or acquire guns illegally. Look at Britan they have reduced private access to weapons imensely over the past decade or two and now they have rampant criminal and gang knife crime and use of blunt objects, pit bulls etc they criminals still hurt and kill people no matter what

man, you seriously aught to take a break from these kinds of arguments... Some people's minds don't fall under the proper criteria for intelligent argument.

Pretty fucked up story, Crazy how people can just snap like that....

Here the gun laws are pretty good id say, You can have guns so long as they are licensed and are stored in a gun locker whenever they are at home. And ammo is to be stored seperatly from the weapon. As a child my dad would also take the firing pin from all his guns just incase we somehow got into the locker, but we were educated about gun safety from a young age.

Can't edit quotes, but I Lol'd at the Texas part. My Gramdma on my father's side lived there once upon a time.

Okay, try to understand the situation. The shooter was drunk, pissed off about something and acted out. New info says he was an avid hobbyist of airsoft, hence the forest fatigues he had with such short notice. Had he not been able to steal/take the weapons from his relative/close friend's gun cabinet (still under wraps) he wouldn't have been able to go through with this short mental collapse of deciding to kill people, or take vengeance for a very silly thing as has been rumoured here - not getting in the bar for being too drunk.

Buying guns illegally has no say in this whole matter, as many believe had he not had access to those rifles, this wouldn't have went down. There is no A-B-C steps around here for illegal weapons after midnight on a Friday, or even a large and easy market in the whole country for firearms outside biker gang activities, so that argument is completely illogical.

mental illness most likely. makes me sad for people like this. also, makes a strong case for stricter gun control laws.

by that, do you mean no civilian could have a gun? I couldn't disagree, i go to rifle ranges alot and shooting is so fun! especially when you see someone do it for the first time, it only brings them joy. if your responsible and theyre used as a tool for sport it's ok, but when people have them for "self protection" then i can see where your coming from

yeah agreed on that. I mean all murder is awful of coarse, the destruction of life. If they know the person theyre shooting, at least maybe something happened in their mind that made them want to shoot that person. But random people?! thats just illogical from every standpoint.

He's right, you are a bitch.

If a few people bust into your home with guns (yes people do that) how do you plan on protecting your family? Oh, when you have time you will go to the phone and call the police to come rescue you since you are afraid of guns. They shot your dog too.

If more then one person came into my house with guns is give them whatever they wanted. What you going to shoot all 3 of them billy the kid

Fear mongering much?

A lot of people are using this incident to boost their arguments every which way; the shooter dropped out of school, so create better safety nets for young outliers; the shooter was into airsoft and "war simulation", so let's see how much of an influence that is to fragile people; the shooter was able attain weapons from a cabinet easily, so maybe we should look into how to make this less of a possibility; the shooter took the guns and ammunition from an individual's home, so should there even be a need for having guns in the hands of private individuals?

Finland has been plagued with these random acts of shooting violence for the last five years, so it's obviously going to raise some heated discussion for the necessity of weapons.

shot gun could hit three people standing next to each other with a skeet choke in it.

the two easiest guns to get at in the safe of my house is a 12 ga. shotgun and a pistol. shotgun would be my first choice because as said earlier when you let that slide close and it pulls the bullet in the chamber it makes quite a loud and intimidating sound.

I don't even belive what some people in his tread are saying. I 3 people with guns just load it and cock it or get them all standing next to each other then shoot them in your own home what could go wrong.
