Hey NS

I need a logo for a tee shirt company, NGI or NG. Whoever can come up with the illist logo will get a free tall tee of their choice. May to best logo win, god speed.

ps. The logo can be either:

NG /or/NGI, whatever looks cooler

GO!!!

Yeah most people will kinda need a slightly more directed take otherwise you'll get a bunch that are completely different from each other. Unless that's what you want and you don't really have a direction thought out yet!

Honestly, I could go either way. I've been drawing up some more modern ones, but whatever people throw out, doesn't matter to me.

You need to give more info other than NG or NGI if you want anything that can even somewhat relate to your company. Otherwise youll just get the standard deviant art floating world.

It is a ski/snowboard/bike/skate related brand from the West Coast. We want to bring the Next Generation of clothing style, for as cheap as we could sell it to you guys.

How about you offer an actual amount of money for a prize. As someone who is looking for work, and who does free lance design on the side, it would be awesome for people to start actually paying for design work rather than getting people to do free work for them.
Just so the collective knows, standard work on a logo design is somewhere around $40-50 an hour. Shit, I price out freelance design at $25 an hour.
So just as a suggestion, it would be awesome of you to pay out the winner of your "contest" an amount consistant with the hours they spent on the logo.

As a future digital/graphic designer, I have to back this statement. No flamesuit needed.

As a fellow skier, lets be real, this kid probably couldn't even pay minimum wage for a design. Im all for protecting designers right, but with so many 'companies' pulling this shit, pick your battles wisely.

I'm not trying to battle anyone. Now if were talking a big time clothing "company", than maybe it would be a little different situation as far as what the designer's would be receiving as far as "payment". I specifically said that the winner would win a tee of their choosing. Therefore, I don't think I should be accused of trying to pull shit. Unless I misunderstood your post, then ignore this.

trust me, you're getting into a battle here

i'm not a professional designer, but i get where they are coming from, they put in work and they want to be compensated justly

But I specifically said that the winner would get a free tee-shirt. Any designer who would want to be paid for their work would either specify that they are looking to be paid, or not post their work at all.

You are doing an exceptional job at starting a battle by your misguided assumption that a free tshirt is enough compensation for design work.

thats what i was getting at

and japollner talked about fair pay

not trying to hate though, sorry for feeding the flame war

I'll play...
...Here is my logo. I was bored tonight. Take your pick. You can have any of them (and even some changes made if you want) for $50.

And if you like the tree one, I have an actual version not done with a shitty tree or root...I just didn't feel like exporting and uploading 2 canvas's for free.

I'm pretty bogged down with school right now, may try and get something going for you at some point. If not, best of luck!

Thank you! And if not, no worries. A few of these other guys explained to me how graphic designers should be paid for their work, so no worries if you don't have the time. Thank you for your input.

yea i'm agreed with the others in here, a t-shirt is not even close to the amount of work put into designing a logo...

Don't forget he's not asking for professional help, just someone to help out with a logo. If your not interested in helping him out for a free T-shirt don't bother posting.

But he is asking for professional help, since he wants someone to design him a logo.
Like I mentioned above, I whipped up those 3 designs real quick, as I think they embody the style and vibe of his brand (from the extremely limited info he gave). I spent about an hour and a half on the design, and offered unlimited changes, for $50.
Anyone who has ever had a logo designed, knows that's a deal.
Anyone who had started a clothing company (like me) also knows that a tee shirt only cost's $4.50 to manufacture.
In summation, asking anyone to design a logo (that will take longer than 45 minutes to do) is paying the designer less than minimum wage. So professional or not, THE PERSON DOING THE DESIGN IS GETTING SCREWED AND CHOPPING DOWN THE VALUE OF PROFESSIONAL DESIGNERS!

Thank you!

I am not asking for specifically for professional help. People who are not professional graphic designers can make a logo with a bit of computer/program knowledge. If you want to whip something up, great. If not, I'm not asking for some graphic designer to spend hours making me a logo when I specifically said that they would get a free tee. If the want to make one, it's their choice, not mine.

I think a lot of you may have seen me around in threads like this, and as an amateur graphic designer I know exactly where a lot of you are coming from.

However that being said, I think we also have to think about where we fight our battles, cause in all honesty this guy's doing a lot better than some other people. He's giving the designer something in return, and by the sounds of it he's not looking for a "professional" logo either. It's more of a barter system, and I know I know a t-shirt isn't worth the time we all put into our designs but he's not looking for people like us to be spending time on this.

It'll just be something maybe on the back of my mind when I'm in class doodling or something, and if something turns out I'll maybe scan it and give him a vector.

If someone can help him out then fine, let that be. If you think it's unfair, that's fine too. to each his own, and I've heard (and used) the argument that it degrades the profession, but I don't think this is exactly the place to pull out that card.

I don't know, maybe I'm just being more naiive than usual, but that's my two cents.

Well now we are talking. Check out the above samples. Let me know what you are thinking. What you would like to see changed.

I like to tree/root one! Let me think about it... I'll pm you if I think of something to add/change!

And to shred, that's a sick logo. Do you think you could make it more ski/board related?

:)

Oh, I did think of one thing. It's kind of hard to make out the "N" in the tree/root logo. When we talk again, it would be sick if we could talk about changing that a little bit.
