Mahre getting back into racing...

I'd second that. Half my team spends just as much time in the park/BC as they do training gates. Why does it matter if its ripping down a DH course and getting 100ft of air from pro jumps or shredding back country and dropping 30 footers?

Downhillers are just crazy to start with... and skiing is skiing whatever way you want to look at it.

Im not so sure I think its good. Racing is sooo conservative. He says that its all the same so he goes off racing. Its his decision but in my opinion its a terrible one.

instead of going racing to try and get park to be less repetitive, y doesnt he invent new tricks and styles to progress the sport and make park intersting for him again

yeah i dont like racing much at all, i went to a racing camp and stuff, but not cause i like it, cause i wanted to be better at just plain skiing so i could get better at everything else. and it works. its cool that mahre is racing, i know he isnt doing it cause its his most favorite thing in the world, but cause it will make him better and i guess the competition part makes sense too.

i think its awesome seth was a racer, if he wasnt he probably wouldnt be where he is today. i could never be obsessed with racing though, there isnt enough progression or style or any of that stuff you get with freeskiing. its almost like another sport that helps with freeskiing, like how skateboarding would help with skiing or snowboarding.

id almost do ski jumping or aerials, i dont like either at all, but think what you could do if your comfortable jumping like 250 feet or doing 3flips and a 1080 in one jump, you could do some awesome stuff in the park or bc!

So just stop competing dude. I compete because I still have something to prove, to other people and to myself.

You don't have anything to prove

"A park contest is an opinion, not an actual event that gets timed."

possibly one of the smartest things anyone has ever said. I respect that hes doing something he loves so fuck all you haters you can eat his million dollars when he dominates the shit out of racing.

You're not on the FIS website... meaning your points are probably 999 in all diciplines. Probably USSA races until you can get under 100 or so to do Nor-Am circuit. Nor-Am speed series are at Lake Louise in Dec, then Pano, Apex and Big Mountain. Dunno about the tech series though, speed is where it's at.

That's awesome that SOMEONE finally has the courage to actually start doing something new. Usually threads are "fuck racers, they're so gay" but as soon as a well respect pro (his segment in Ski Porn is mindblowing, I couldn't believe it) steps up to the plate, the whole community begins to slow open up...

im doing ussa races.

first they tell me to use poles. once i use them for the reason skiers started to use them, (for turning) they tell me not to do that. HA. whatever.

and i dont compete anymore. i told you why i dont. I'm not the best park skier, so why waste my time proving that? i did the back9 and icer air, and i will do them both again.

and lacking variety....? i wish i could laugh in your face. you talk like im only going to be skiing race courses. i ski pipe, i slide rails, i hit park kickers, i hit bc kickers, i drop cliffs, i hit natural hits, i turn on groomers, i turn in pow, i turn around gates, i straight line, I SKI...if i feel, i'll do all those backwards. (and my favorite thing is pillows. but im yet to figure out how to make it through them backwards.) im sure thats more "variety" than most. oh...and yes, ive done urban.

but im over this. now you'll really want to hate me, but thats fine. if you were making money to do what you loved...would you not mix it up?

and one last thing. i dont want to progress park skiing. ive got much bigger slopes to deal with. THANKS and THANKS. goodbye...i will go do my thing, on my own.

Skiing is skiing no matter how you do it or where you do it. To each his own. Andy will only become a better skier from this. Bettering yourself in all aspects will make you the best skier you can be. Andy, i think that you getting into racing is fuckin rad! You will be better at the end of it all. Even if it is just one miniscule hint that changes your skiing it is totally worth it. Best of luck in racing, and just enjoy yourself! Thats for everyone to keep in mind.

Bow down babies. Andy is in town.

I'm going to start calling him Andy 'TF' Mahre....TF being THE FUTURE.

HA! I wish everyone could see things this way, but that would make everyone carbon copies, which would re-suck....but....it will never happen....so I can only be happy someone higher up in the sport is doing what a certain group of people, higher up athlete included, really, reallllly want to happen to our sport.

Thanks Andy, thank you.

thats what i do, just ski, park groomers, wherever cause i love to ski, and i like to do a lot of park too caus eof my location, but more power to ya mr mahre, plus your getting paid to do it which is even better, but i just like to ski, and have a good time with my friends and such

Good on ya Andy!

It's true, only one aspect of skiing can be boring. It's good to mix it up so that each day is just as much fun as the day before. Do what makes you happy and don't give a rats ass about what other people think! especially little 15-16 year olds on here!
