M&A stoke

Is it weird that I usually agree with him?

The man has strong opinions, but frankly most of what he says I found to be true.

His credo is a thorn in the eye of gearfags:

It's not about your camera.

It's not about my camera.

It's all about you.

It's all about our ability to see.

It's all about our ability to new things, and to see old things in new ways.

It's all about our vision. It's never about your camera.

It's unsurprising that he is universally hated on camera forums. Those same people are the reason why I don't really bother participating anymore (aside from the occasional snide remark among my fellow celluloid aficionados).

It's funny; when I got my GH2 I completely stopped caring about whatever new cameras came out. I stopped following blogs. I finally had the (digital) camera I had always wanted (flaws and all). The only thing to make me turn my head since then is the GH4, but I don't shoot anymore so meh.

Pentax 110 to Fuji X adapter arrived today. This tiny lens manages to cover the entire frame with minimal vig. Got a 24mm and 50mm f/2.8 and with the adapter the grand total was $55, not bad. Only downside is that there's no aperture control.

Just re-bought the tokina 11-16 MK II version this time-- for those considering selling the lens, just don't do it you'll regret it.

Also bought a LED light for light traveling + a tamrac pro camera bag!

Did you have the mk1 before? Id like to know if there is actually a difference.

Ill play tho, got to work with Democracy Now! for the past week broadcasting from our studio in park city, pretty sweet to work with a super legit tv crew.

yeah, had the mk I version. Don't think there's any difference but found a decent deal on the MK II and figured it wouldn't hurt to get the new one. I read up a bit and it doesn't seem like much changed, but will report back once I get it and play with it

Two of my best friends are getting married that weekend, and I'm the best man in one of the weddings. So, I still really want to get out and shoot and shred (unless I get a job or something) I'm thinking about trying to get a possy of media people and athletes and building some really cool, photogenic stuff either right before or after the comp, so if anyone wants too...

No idea where I'll be around then, but it sounds fun

I love Ken. I think he's the man. Never known why he's so hated.

Yeah, I don't hate Ken Rockwell's reviews at all.. sometimes they can be great sources for gear research and you'll learn a thing or two as well.. or discover a camera or a lens that you feel you might really want to pick up. I love how he still pushes film gear too.

What I DO hate are the guys who jump full on his respective dick and take everything the reviews have to say like it's the fucking Bible and shit... "But Ken Rockwell said that lens is shit.." Yeah, well look at the photos people have taken with it maybe?

...or the flipside, the idiots who have a Leica logo impregnated in their nucleic acid, and talk shit on Ken Rockwell because he says Leica is commonly just for rich gear jagaloons who want to show off their jewelry rather than actually taking photos with it, and it goes against their fanboy geargeek nature. All meanwhile, Ken Rockwell actually praises the shit out of Leica, he just hates the culture behind it - as do so many of us.

I'm not a huge fan of Huff, though. Steve has a penchant for TYPING IN ALL CAPS TO REALLY, REALLY HAMMER HOME THAT THIS IS ONLY HIS OWN OPINION BUT ALSO THAT HIS OPINION COMES FROM YEARS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AND SO THEREFORE ANY DISSENTING OPINION IS INCORRECT AND OH MY GOD LEICA GIVE ME YOUR BALLS SO I CAN GARGLE MORE.

Speaking of Ken's stuff, um.. wat.. lol

50 megapixels. Sensor crop mode. 1080p60. Probably 4k/24 if Canon's smart. 7fps burst.

Neat.

It won't be 4K, also 4K is overrated at this point in time.

Also he tells the most useful information, this is why I love Kenny and his growing family:

I measured a sample from 1964 and its 43mm thread pitch is the finer 0.5mm pitch.

Newer 43mm non-LEICA filters have a coarser 0.75mm pitch.

I see different LEICA catalogs list some lenses as 0.75mm, and others as 0.5mm. I don't trust that these listings are true.

Since there are two thread pitches running around for 43mm lens accessories, regardless of the pitch of your lens, there is a very good chance that whatever non-LEICA item you attempt to screw into your SUMMILUX won't have the correct pitch.

Be very careful when attaching screw-in accessories. If something gets stiff, don't force it. If you do, you could destroy both your SUMMILUX and your accessory.

Camera bag finally arrived in the mail so I finally have a way of lugging my shit to school for projects! This thing is a monster and built like a tank.

^ dope

also stoked on finally buying a new camera bag. I plan on using it to keep 2 dslr's plus gear, and I've found that a backpack isn't big enough when you're trying to pack cables, etc.

Since this is pretty much M&A general and I hate superfluous threads let me briefly talk about the World Press photo 2015.

The winner is this:

01_Mads-Nissen-980x653.jpg

And you know what, it's shit, it only won because it's anti-Russian, fuck me documenting reality is also press but it just looks like staged bait, there's way better shots in the competition. It has went downhill for the last few years but right now it's just purely a political contest, it has essentially become the Eurovision songfestival.

This is what a WPP should be:

Finally ordered a tokina 11-16. I've been thinking about getting this lens for two years and finally pulled the trigger. Stoked to test it out for timelapses of the stars while camping this summer. Should be sick for follow cams too.

Sometimes I don't agree with you but man do I ever agree with this post. WPP has been absolute crap recently, so staged and fake, So many look like something off a movie set.

If we all had the same opinion, life would be one monotonous dull and tedious affair. The Pulitzer also went to the proverbial fecal matter.

I looked on the site and found this one winning the nature category, and it's so much better then the overall winner.

Anti stoke right now.

2 weeks ago, my entire bag was stolen from me. No luck through the police, stolencamerafinder .com, craigslist, or anything else. Literally lost everything..

Even more anti stoke.

Going to China in a month and I have no money and can't get money for even just a new body and 35mm prime. FUCK

Agreed. Take this an opportunity: find a no-frills film camera and spend the vacation without your nose buried in screens as you preview shots and offload cards.

Just make sure it works....

Ask your parents if they have an old film camera kicking around.

Going to film for the day. I've had half an edit worth of shots on my laptop from a filming day 3 weeks ago. Until today I haven't had any time or riders to film. I'm absolutely stoked to be going out and able to finish this edit soon. So frustrating seeing all these shots just sitting on a hard drive knowing you don't have enough for a full edit.

stoke: mint condition olympus xa just came in the mail.

Also a question, does anyone have experience with ilford hp5? I've been told it's a comparable to tri x and it's 5.50 a roll here instead of 6.99 for tri x and even cheaper in bulk.

Top, great little cam.

Tri-X vs HP5 has been the debate of the ages, both very versatile, flexible, coarse grain, harsh contrast films.

What matters most is the developer, they can be made to look indistinguishable from one another or worlds apart. You can't really go wrong with either, I usually shoot HP5 if i'm out of Tri-X, read in that what you like, if money is a concern get HP5.

You will get less likes on Tumblr though, but just say it was Tri-X, no-one will notice.

Yeah I've just heard so much hype for tri x and I really like the high contrast of both films...Thank you very much! But the cost of hp5 will help in the long run I think

Just get whichever's cheaper, as Lawrence said it's developing that makes the biggest difference. Some say HP5+ is like old tri-x.

Ive shot so much of both, just get HP5 you wont see any difference. Tri-x has sharper grain with more contrast, but as stated filters and developing can make it indifferent.

thank you everyone! the deeper blacks are appealing especially because I can't use filters on an xa which would make the hp5 comparable. But the price of hp5 is much more reasonable for me right now.

13335593:zbphoto said:
The *GENERAL* difference is that Tri-x has deeper blacks, HP5 has more mid-tones.

I feel like TMax400 and HP5 are sometimes basically the same film... I feel like it has more midtone range as well, while Tri-X is ultra contrasty (and therefore epic)

Nah T-MAX has a much finer and a different kind of grain (tabular) then HP5/TRi-X, HP5 is indeed 'flatter' then Tri-X, T-MAX is again flatter with more highlight contrast and more detail. Less forgiving though.

Also Ilford needs some support, it's already a miracle that company has existed for so long.
