After I posted about the intrepid camera i started doing my own research on 4x5 cameras. I realized that I could get a really nice used camera for quite a bit cheaper than the intrepid, and have it now. I just won a Graflex Graphic View monorail on eBay and I'm beyond stoked to join the large format club.

what i just bought:

Really, really excited for my Bessa R and Cv 35/2.5 to arrive. That being said, I'll have a Cv 50/2.5 for sale very shortly.

Visited the Leica Gallery and store in NYC today, and going to the International Center for Photography which is featuring Sebastiao Salgado's work tomorrow

Total Photoartz orgy.

What glass are you planning on with this new purchase?

i'm putting a roll through it with the 50 right now while i'm waiting for the 35 to get here. I don't know, I guess I've never been a fan of the 50mm focal length, but as far as the mechanics go it's an awesome lens. If anyone here is in the market for an LTM 50 it's going to be great. That being said, maybe in the future if I get into portraiture or something I'll look for a 75mm for it, i've never really shot that length and it could be something fun.

I'm really fucking pumped on the camera though, the only thing I'm a little scared of is the focus not being correct but I won't really know until this roll gets developed. It's too close to call right now though, because the prism only SEEMS to be off in close(r) situations, i.e. less than 6'. Everything over that it is spot on with the range on the lens. I love the ergonomics of it and honestly even though some of the reviews I read said the opposite, it feels like such a sturdy build. It feels just as hefty as my spotmatic f, and that thing has been a fucking tank over the past 3 years.

I've also done this! If only they didn't take 10 days to arrive...

That's a bummer I ordered mine from b&h with a bag and it'll be here tomorrow with free shipping.

Well, it may be expensive and inconvenient, but an IMAX film projector looks more dramatic than many IMAX films:

(admittedly that is interstellar, which is a very long film. It was also partly shot in 35mm, so is that a print of the 35mm onto the 70mm IMAX? Or is there some projector changing going on?)

That's the reel on a reel holder.

Fucking reels are massive.

The reel holder uses rollers to feed them to the projectors which are...

..also fucking massive.

I hate it when people say IMAX is expensive, there's clearly reasons for that.

Just purchased an Epson r3000 printer. Time to start selling my work and attempt to break even on the $800 I just tossed down

Just shot my first rail jam and my first ski photos of this season, didn't go as badly as I expected so I'm stoked!

Unstoke...

a few months after my 35-70 developed a major evil hazing issue and I dumped it for 100$... My 80-200 is now deciding that it's too cool for school and won't autofocus. The mechanism completely stripped out, so now turning the screw in the back won't do anything to actually focus the lens.

Still manually focuses, so It's absolutely great for video, but it's still frustrating to no end.

Saga featured my photo and a local add agency is looking to buy some of my photos!!!

First time actually making money off of photography and it feels awesome!

haha believe be i know. i received the camera a while ago and its actually in great condition, which is a nice surprise since i bought it on eBay. i bought some ilford FP4 the other day, and today i finally got out and took a shot. its definitely quite a process for only one picture but i already love it and i can't wait to see how it turns out.

and more stoke, i found a lab about an hour away from me that does developing for pretty cheap and they even scan 4x5

So, I'm stoked because the student newspaper that I write for decided to run a winter special issue. They know I'm a weird ski bum so they asked me to give them whatever content I wanted. I ended up with 12 photos and four articles in the latest issue. I know that it's not that big of a deal, our circulation is only about 6k but it always makes me happy to see my photos in print.

Also, that same student newspaper just won an award as 2nd best student newspaper in the nation, so I'm stoked about that too. /claim /stoke

Inb4 didn't close the lens before removing darkslide and it comes out blank.

Sounds like something you would do/have done....

Nah that never happened to me, the only issueI had starting out was loading holders, I'd sometimes not get it completely flat so the dark slide would catch, or I'd scratch the film getting it out.

Haha that would be my luck. I think I did everything right but we'll have to wait until it's developed!

I love the idea of the DF; however, the execution was not to its full potential.

No matter how digital cameras are updated, I'm always turned off by the fact that with every photo I take I'll be stuck sitting at a computer editing the bajeezus out of it just to make it look good. I love the idea of plugging a camera in and getting immediate results (scanners suck); but I just can't get over how you have to actively fight the sterility of the image.

"Man I want an X-Pro/D700/etc." => look at the highlight rolloff and vomit

>>Implying people don't edit the bajeezus out of their negative scans to make them look good, or spend time in the dark room perfecting their prints.
