M&A stoke

Spend money on experience not fucking gear. I thought we (smart, young, urban(ish) cosmopolitans) would be post-materialistic awesome dudes, but apparently that's not the case...

Uh, those are the exact type of people who are overly materialistic.

What I said isn't about that. I'm asking how many photogs use a non-macro 55mm lens in a studio? I get the appeal for high quality specialty glass for professionals.

I'm basing this on who I've met, and my own experience, but I don't know many studio shooters who use 50/55's unless it's all they've got. a 4500$ "captain insano" 85mm, macro 105mm or 135mm makes a lot more sense in my book, is what I'm saying.

SHUT THE FUCK UP

Finally got something out that I'm happy with, actually very excited about this one.

I understand what post-materialism is. My point is that it's bullshit.

I beg to differ. Most people that are really 'enlightened' (I'm talking 21st century I've-got-access-to-every-book-ever-written enlightened, not 18th century Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu, Descartes enlightened) aren't as absorbed by the materialistic world as others. I'm not saying I don't like my gear as much as the next person, but I would much rather get by with the minimum amount of gear and travel the world. For most people that's not the case.

No camera's today, but for a mere 50 eurocent I lugged this cardboard box complete with contents home:

It had some carbon dating on the inside:

Just you wait what I'm about to post... The motherload. I've got enough DoKa (Dutch contraction of the words Donkere [dark] Kamer [room]) stuff to last me a life time...

I'll go snap a pic if I can fit it all in one frame (unlikely).

Nope. Not gonna happen by a long shot.

7 different developing tanks. Paterson System 4 and another brand I don't know. Don't know what it is, but I already had a tank by them. Pretty nice stuff, but the opening to pour fluid in and out with is a little small.

Paterson tank sizes:

8-reel (fuck yeah!)

5-reel

2-reel (2x)

1-reel

And then a 2-reel and 1-reel of the other brand.

Rowi print dryer. Not much info out there on this item, but it's an infrared dryer, which supposedly gives much nicer blacks than you'd get when you left it to dry by air. These go for quite a lot of money.

Serial number is 10003, so I think it's only the third one ever made?

8 different kinds of accordeon bottles. All in good condition.

Not all that impressive, right?

Boom!

Grand fucking finale:

So, what are we looking at here? I'll start at top-right corner and work my way down to the bottom left corner:

- Ilford SL1 safe light 2x (these go for about 50$ second-hand)

- 3x 1 Liter chemical bottles

- 3x Paterson 3-reel Super system 4 tank

- 2-reel Paterson Super system 4 tank

- 4x 600ml Jobo bottle

- A box full of film clips. Probably around 50 clips in there. Most aluminum. These go for around 10$/pair when new

- Tongs. Lot's and lots of tongs.

- A lot of those twisty things you can stick down the center of a Paterson tank to turn your reels

- 31 film developing trays in all different kinds of size

- Dayroll daylight loader. These I think are by far the best daylight loaders out there, and I've used quite some. Now I have 4 of these...

Guess what's in there? Around 10 meters of Superia 1600... Fucking awesome. Probably expired quite some time, but who cares. That alone is probably worth what I paid in total.

- Agfa multigrade filters. Perfect condition.

- A couple rolls of film. Two rolls of Superia 1600 (exp. in 2013!), two rolls of Tmax 3200 in there too.

- 8x magnifying loop. Always handy.

- 2x 1 Liter graduate beaker

- A couple cylindrical measuring beakers

- 2x Mercury thermometer. Acurate little things (though I do like my digital thermometer better...)

- A lot of funnels in a lot of different size

- An empty Fp4 canister, which'll come in handy when I have to spool down the 90m/300ft roll of Polypan F I have into a more manageable size

- 2x washing hoses you can stick down the center column of a Paterson tank.

Grand total:

49 yuro's

Pretty fucking awesome deal if I may say so. I was about to dish out 50 euro for a 5 and 8 reel paterson tank. Now I have that. And a fuckton of other stuff.

I'm especially happy with the Super System tanks. I hate the System 4 tanks, because the ALWAYS leak. I have about 6 of the older tanks and none of them are water-tight. Now I can finally ditch the older tanks (apart from maybe the 5 and 8 reel I just acquired) and go with the much better Super System tanks. Halelujah.

The guy also had a Jobo CPA-2 (with lift) and two Nova Trimates (print processors) for sale for 200€. I should have immediately jumped on that, but was a little hesitant because I don't have room for a Jobo. I probably should've bought it anyway. I could've sold that Jobo for 300-400 and those Trimate's for another 150 euro a piece probably... Oh well, hopefully someone is enjoying it somewhere.

If you don't shoot leica yet, I'm sure you'll find this advert persuades you to by an M Monochrom.

Auctions don't count Balto, you know that.

I now also have to erase the image of that Leica about of whom we promised not to speak, even though we now have spoken of that Leica about which we do not talk.

Auctions deff count in the world of leica seeing as 4/5th of the gear is legacy. But fine if you want to play it that way how about the kyoto mp or gibson mm both of which anyone was able to buy assuming they were either at the store or placed an order with their rep in time.

I think the RED M looks better then the titanium m9 in some ways

Nor was I counting special editions, remember the Hermès set?

But I mostly just wanted to post that picture of the S I made over a year ago. Never got the change to utilize it....

What's so special about that black MP that went for 2.8mil?

It's one of the four Leica m3D's that was specially customized by Leitz for American photojournalist David Douglas Duncan, he shot many of his famous war photos on it that most people don't even know are his and probably spunked on it several times at least that's what I would have done because the brassing is delectable.

One of 3D's pictures:

Shooting at a festival tomorrow, super stoked.

Scambling for black/white film though, I currently have 10 shots of 35mm and no 120... In truth, I'm short on all film. I'm carrying a roll of provia, gonna try and cross process it in C41. Apparently it gives super-hipster results, which is appropriate for a super-hipster festival...

or you could not waste a perfectly good roll of lovely provia 100

Yeah, I'm on Thomas with this. Cross-processing is really fucking stupid. And such a waste of a 14$ roll of Provia, or however much it costs...

Don't worry, I got if free and it's long expired and not freezer stored.

Just scored one of these bad boys for 20 bucks:

Polaroid_Land_Camera_100_IMGP1930_WP.jpg

Just took it apart and lubed her all up. Still have to clean out the battery corrosion though. Anybody shoot with a land camera and have any tips? Is it worth converting it to AA batteries or should I order one of those 4.5v's online (I heard they take years to die). Stoke nonetheless.

if it's the 100 or 110 it's not really worth the time or effort, you could spend the same amount total on an sx70 and that has a nicer lens + is smaller.

Smaller prints with the sx70 though. Why aren't they worth it? I really doubt I'd be spending less on a sx70 when film is 30 bucks for 8 shots vs $8.50 for ten shots.

Because once fuji quit production of fp100 (WHICH THEY WILL SOONER THEN YOU THINK) then no film will even be available for the format unless impossible project starts it up and then the price will go up anyway. The only valid reason to use a land cam is to bleach and scan the neg which chances are you are not planning on doing, or if its a land 180/250/360(?) And you just really love polaroids. I own a 110 and di the conversation, it wasnt worth it compared to the 250 a girl I know has.
