And god why don't I never inherit a large collection of camera's.
It seems to be such a common thing on NS these days.

The back door's paint looks a little scuffed, but other than that the camera seems to be in good condition. Wow... I've wanted an M2 for quite a while now and sometimes I look if they're put up for sale locally, but I didn't expect to actually own one. Exciting stuff... My favorite M! Too bad it isn't a no self-timer/button rewind. That would make it complete. Stupid self-timer lever...

12949895:Balto said:You should deff have someone look over that first. ..
12949939:TijmenDal said:Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, but I don't know who could. I've got minimal experience with Leica's (apart from shooting them). The seller has bought it second-hand too and says he hasn't had any problems with it. When the last CLA was done he doesn't know.
What would be reasonable to ask the seller? If I can have it checked by a skileld repair man? And if it doesn't meet standards if I can return it?
12949958:Balto said:Yes if you can have a reputable repair man give it a look over. For all you know the shutter could be on its last leg, half the gears could be rusted, the clutch might be ready to fail, etc etc. You don't know what the camera has been through and its clearly not a show piece for that price.

12954363:omnidata said:That's the reason why the manual says to not fornicate with the camera despite that gloriously alluring FF sensor, you probably got a stray pube on there In the process.

I just finally ordered an 11-16 some tri-X and some ektar. Let the artsy-ness begin. If I don't get a Pulitzer I am blaming Laurence.

12955852:Ethan.G said:Just saw rumors about a Zeiss announcement for an Otus 85mm 1,4 at Photokina. My Zeiss 85 is already such an incredible lens I can't even imagine how sweet that Otus would be for shooting panos/portraits.
Would be sick to get one or perhaps a Schneider 50 depending on the price point of the Otus.
12955902:RileySnyderPhoto said:Word on the street is that the new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art is supposed to be the same if not better quality and under $1000.
12956008:Ethan.G said:Nothing against Sigma they make great glass but there's just a way Zeiss glass renders colours in images that makes them special, as douchy as that may sound. You can tell the difference imo. Oh and build quality too.
12956087:DingoSean said:I honestly don't understand the appeal of the otus. I mean look at this behemoth.

I get the no expense spared shit on trying to make a lens optically insane, but I don't understand how it would sell particularly well.
I mean, my 1986 Nikkor 50 f1.8 is as distortion free and sharp as almost anybody's going to need. the Otus is just overkill imo

12956118:omnidata said:And anyway, sharpness is a bourgeois concept.
12956452:Balto said:I don't know what you guys are complaining about, the otis is probably the single best choice for an slr professional prime at this point, it's not built like shit like any of the canikons, and it is capable of resolving enough data for this 36+ mpx world we will soon be going into. It's not a lens for someone who does this as a hobby, a serious working pro can cover that cost of one in a single day.
12956517:RileySnyderPhoto said:I don't know about a single day but agreed!
12956385:TijmenDal said:Spend money on experience not fucking gear.
12957319:DingoSean said:This. I mean, I know that I've been on a spending spree as of late, but only because I just switched systems entirely.
As for the Otus, imo, a 50mm is supposed to be a small, light, extremely portable and fully practical, general purpose lens. Something you use for street and travel photography.
When it gets as large as the Otus, It's not useable in the same light. I'd invest in ultra high-quality glass if it's going towards a portrait lens where you're going for perfection, but for something like a 50, it's just not something that makes sense to me. I'd rather put that money towards a high end portrait lens and a few good strobes if I'm getting something for use in studio (which is about the only thing I can see the Otus being really for)
I don't know. That's just me. Not knocking anyone who has it, I just don't honestly understand the appeal myself.
12957578:DingoSean said:seeing a monster 50mm seems funny to me in thinking from a consumer's point of view - especially when the difference in price doesn't even remotely match the difference in performance as far as I'm concerned. Like I said, my 50$ Nikkor is so good already Really how much better am I getting for 4500$?
12957703:TijmenDal said:Just picked up the M2.
It's in ok condition. Finder is clear and aligned. All shutter speeds to as low as 1/4 work great. 1/2 and 1 are a little hesitant and are a little slow. Not that I'd use those anyway, so it doesn't really matter.
Cosmetically it's not in very good condition, but who gives a rat's ass.
Now, to find out if it will go with me everywhere and become an extension of myself, or will only sit at home because I'm too scared to bring it with me everywhere.
12957719:Balto said:can just post the in l&a

12957612:Walter.1337 said:Dude, it's NOT A CONSUMER LENS. It is NOT made for people like you, or I, or anyone that needs to justify the $4500 price difference. There are professionals, in studios, that DGAF about price and need it. Thomas made this point perfectly clear.
