M&A stoke

definitely a t2i and glidecam and tamron17-50 and a 50-800 for the longer shots and a 4mm for extra fishy fish eyes. but make sure you shoot in a super flat picture style and dont grade it at all so you can try and look like stept

Sidenote: an F2 will be minimally 33 years and 3 months old by now.

scratch that, its an FM2. either way, banger camera. she used it for horticultural photography for years. I am going to get film in a little bit cause its overcast and gorgeous today

There are videos of people sticking it in the freezer and taking video with it until the card runs out. It's straight up freeze proof.

yeah arena snow but it was a solid session and we'll hopefully get to do more between now and snowfall :D

Mmm, X-E1 or X-PRO1 now or wait a few months for the next batch and if they marginally improve snag a cheaper old one?

M8 is out of the window, M6 will come in time.

Also for the stoke part: finally managed to instal CHDK on my twelve year old compact Canon, so much fucking control, I can actually take decent macros with it now:

Got a yongnuo 560 for $25, really didn't need it in the slightest but at that price I really couldn't pass it up, really gotta stop buying things but there's so many phenomenal deals.

For the price, they make pretty rad stuff

I have 603 triggers, 622 triggers, i had 2 560's and one 568

I had one 603 died, but they are super cheap

the 622's are way legit, hss with my strobe? yes please

I had 1 560 die, but got a new one through amazon/who i bought it from through amazon

My 568 died, but that's because i dropped it

Anti-stoke I really wanted to take some shots of this girl today in the rainy weather we were having, and despite her bugging me to take pictures of her lately she wouldn't answer my texts.

I thought you were a Canon shooter?

I'm considering gettin a 1D mkIIn/mkIII for skiing too. Maybe even a 7D, because it has video capabilities.

I was, I had a t2i (along with some of NS's favorite lenses) and sold it. Thought of swapping to Nikon for a while now for a couple of reasons, no hate either way though.

I would grab a 7d over the 1d mkiii I think, especially if you're looking to shoot video. Price is gonna be about the same for the two (maybe a bit less for the 7d even). 7d shoots nearly as fast anyway and way more megapixels. Only other big debate on it is whether you'd prefer the 1.6 or 1.3 crop.

Sorry for post whoring. Stoked is to say the least. Forgot to add I've shot with a 7d (which I actually loved) and a 5d mkii (meh) and there wasn't a camera that fit my wants (FF, fast fps, enough MP) on Canon's side that was in my budget and the D3 fit all of the above. I have friends who have glass they'll let me borrow too until i acquire more of my own.

Get a 1D mk2 or a mk2N. They'll cost like 400-500 bucks, and give you a larger, brighter viewfinder than the 7D, as well as improved AF. the mk3 would be cool, but cost twice as much for nothing practical, like 10fps, an extra 1.9 mp, a larger screen, and it's a whole 1/2 lb lighter (ooh boy)

as for the 7D, would be cool, but would you even shoot video, Tijmen? :P

1d2n. 1d2's screen is really hard to work with, the upgraded one is better. I don't like the images produced by the 1d3

Why did you switch Julius?

I've only got two Canon lenses (35mm Rokinon and 85mm f/1.8) and I'm selling both (switching to zoom lenses) so switching to Nikon isn't out of the books, though I doubt it'll be worth it.

Wow. Doing a little research on earlier flagship Nikon camera's (and comparing them to Canon camera's); they absolutely SUCK. CCD sensors and 4MP while Canon was cranking out CMOS' with 8MP and higher FPS. I'm surprised Nikon didn't go bankrupt in the early 2000's.

Then the D3 comes around and BOOM, Nikon seems to be back. FX sensor with 9FPS... This is the first time I'm really taking a look at Nikon camera's - I never really liked the ergonomics (and the shutter sounds horrible imo), but I actually might have to take another look if I could like 'em. For the price (D3/D700) they seem MUCH better camera's than what you get for the Canon equivalent.

As far as 7D vs 1D mkIIn goes, the 7D wins for me there. About 200€ more than the 1D, but it works better for me: higher ISO, video, more resolution, 14-bit images and, probably the biggest advantage, it's much smaller.

I'm more on the fence whether I should look into Nikon's too...

Oh and if you want to change the aperture you can't be in live view, which means you can't zoom in live view without the exposure changing, depends on how you plan on videoing.

why would he check out a crop sensor when he specifically said he was already looking at the d3/d700 which are both FX

boom this. I didn't have any gear really other than some older film stuff and had access to both canon and nikon lenses. basically decided to hop on whatever better deal i could snag that fit my needs. both the d3 & d700(maybe d600) fit. d800 is fucking MP overkill IMO.

Oh, that's what I get for not reading it through, I was just giving an alternative to the 7d, also not a FF camera,

Honestly, if I wasn't already pretty satisfied with, and invested in my canon system (also, if I wasn't kinda poor at the moment with it being shoulder season and what-not) I would have picked up a D3 a long time ago, and completely switched to Nikon for stills. keeping some of my canon gear for video-use only.

Def most common issue with the d800 is the MP count. I gotta say that I was skeptical at first but am really loving it. To the issue of filming, the layout of the 800 is really easy to navigate (was sort of annoying on the D300) i'm not sure about the D700 but from what i've read it's not that different. The quality is pretty prime as well.

New toy, excited to use it this winter when I have to ski and take photos every day. The size rocks and I'm really liking the features so far!
