LSS is the new TBC

nah.. TBC is way better.. LSS doesnt even compare.. if anything Ski porn is better because of the shots, the riders, and the tricks..

above all TBC flowed way better, bigger gaps..

rails in LSS get old after the first 2minutes... i cant stand that people think rails are soo much better than a 120ft back country booter..

no never TBC is THE film of all time..such a great movie...ostness is the shit  but LSS is great too i love watching it ..but like someone said we get bored to see all same handrail

it´s all about bigger higher..??

don´t get me wrong but look @pollard mahre or others.. do they really get bigger every year?? no they play with the mountain and use their creativity... and if you look at lss.... the outfits´colors harmonize with the background such sick shots.. even the lss trailer was hotter than whole tbc!

word. Thought hsi may sound spoiled and contrived, Outfits are a hugeeeeee part of overall impression and style. If your into the whole competition and filming scene, as bad as this sounds, you need to have a really appealing set up. (of course amazing skiing skills as well.) It doesnt nececarily need to be trendy, but a tight zellers coat and a itech hockey helmet wont get you as much recognition as if your wearing the "in" shwag. This is not my opinion, but more just an observation.

some people liked the matrix and some didnt. some people liekd Sin city, some didnt..

they are both crazy good movies they just dont please anyone.

AS for rails, I tought TBC rails segment was pretty much people doing the same tricks all the time on diferent handrails. It was just the same old thing we've been seeing for years.

Anyway, I liked TBC but to me it wasnt as appealing as shangai 6 last year. Still way ebtter then most of the movies made in the past 4 years.

im going to have to say that TBC is my favorite ski movie of all time. and im a fan of all the level 1 productions but i just dont think they appeal to me as much as TBC did...overall your going to like what movie appeals more to your taste in riding, we all have different tastes as Cedric said above me^

exactly my feelings. i cant stand how now we have entire segments of urban, i think there were three where there was not a single jump in it, that is just ridiculous.

TBC is 10 times better than LSS. not to say that LSS isn't good, but TBC is just fucking sick.

But I'd say that LSS is the best movie this year. OR at least its good, except for the thousands of urban rails. I mean it's winter, go do a real jump.

everyone loves tbc i personally enjoyed shanghai six and LSS better like tbc is good for sure i just in awe of it

I hated tbc, i thought there was way too much slo mo and i didnt really like the music. I thought LSS and S6 were much better.

No way, TBC had the perfect proportion of slowmo. Not overdone like MSP, but enough so you can see the smoothness of the trick. As for music, well, everyone has thier own taste. Personally, I think its the best soundtrack to a ski movie ever.

TBC is the shit, and its a shame that another one isnt coming out this year. if i see LSS and it is anywhere close I'll buy it. S6 was really good too; ski movies last year just ruled in general. my favorite soundtrack had to be PYB though. just kidding, it was ridiculous.

ditto, the way on esong flows into one another its like they're composed.

at first i didn't like the music. then i started to like it but realized that it was europop/techno and was self-concious that my non-ski friends woudl think me retarded.

now that soundtrack is like crack to my stoke.

best ski movie ever made.

did someone reference the matrix?

all im sayin is that its not about going bigger each year on skis.. its about going bigger as a production company.. taking it an extra step.. to me LSS lacked the creativity on the slope.. more time spent on the dominos than the editing of the skiing..

did not you see the epic backcountry... and the park throwdown... the japan pow pow... your opinion on urban is irrelevent (even though it shows real jib skill), lss is too good, i don't even think its in the same genre of all other ski flicks, level 1 brought everything up another step, next year... sweet jesus i don't even know, but lss is the best ski movie i have ever seen, and you're right it dosn't compare, but because its on a higher level

all hail level 1

Yeah, I feel like the whole editing budget was spent on the "machine" thing. More time should have gone into the actual movie or music.

And I feel lots of you arent distinguishing the movie from the riders. Yeah, the skiing is absolutely amazing, but I can put together a shit movie with a soundtrack my dog farted out and still have amazing shots. Its about the flow of the movie, the editing and the feeling the movie inspires in you. Honestly, LSS didnt get my vibe going like TBC. I cannot tell you how many times I've watch TBC, but its never gotten old. TBC just flows SOOOOO nicely. Perfectly. Every single little thing fits.

LSS... I dont know. Music was off, the machine thing took me all out of the great skiing... not on the same level. Ski Porn is a better matchup though if you want to try and deseat TBC off my favorites.

Am I the only one who thinks Level 1 movies suck? I mean, c'mon, I can only watch about 2 minutes of urbans before it becomes the most boring thing ever. And there was no slow mo! Im a big fan of the film look, but thats just me. I definately do not dig the whole digi filming.

I was dissapointed with all the movies this year. Show and Prove was a disgrace to sking, Ski Porn was a joke. I could just throw on some overplayed rock music and add some sick skiing and I'd have something equivalent. Anomoly was the same old boring TGR flick with excessive narration and powder. I think the best movie this year was [Photo]Play, because it had the sickest freestyle BC.

Like you said earlier, the music is all preference unless you are talking about it sinking up with the movie(in that case i need to watch the movie again more carefully and less high). But i thought the overall flow to the movie was pretty good, not excellent but pretty good. Im going to say it again too, there was slo mo that for me, took away from TBC. Again that is all preference, there is really no point to argue over this cause everything depends from person to person, so im gonna stop talking now.

In my humble opinion: I think SLOW-MO has been the most overused effect in action sports filming, to the point where it has become a standard with most film companies. I mean, it has its moments, but I find that it kills any life or energy that the action would normally have. Especially when it is milked out through an entire movie, shot after shot, and rairly even matches the music that accompanies it. It's impossible to connect with it at all. Basically, it is at the point now where slow motion has ruined movie viewing for me, and ruins the action that would normally be so entertaining to watch!

ALSO: If you dig backcountry freestyle- you might wanna take another look at Show&Prove again. Tanner and crew barely even built one jump in that movie, but throw tricks down on the best terrain you can find instead. Thats the real next level shit in my book.

My copy arrived today! Best film ever. I found the soundtrack excellent and fitting, gnarly skiing and very creative editing. I really liked the whole machine thing!

I don't understand people who say this years movies suck. So far I've seen skimatic, photoplay, skiporn and long story short. I really liked skimatic and photoplay, skiporn was ok. Super good skiing, but boring editing. And Long Story Short amazing. Still waiting to check out anomaly and show and prove.

finally someone with an intelligent response to my opinion. If you all paid attention, I didnt knock the skiing.. The skiing ability in LSS was great, the rails were great. definite skill.. But aside from that, as a spectator i enjoyed watching TBC more. it was consistant across the board, music, movie speed, sync the music to what type of skiing they were showing.

Kris took the time to make it perfect.. his segways included the riders in his timelapses so you never felt away from the skiing. The domino set up was clever and unique in LSS but it didnt fit for me.

MY top reasons TBC is better than LSS:

1. Quality of filming

2. Quality of editing

3. Music Choices (although i didnt like it at first, it fits perfect)

4. A lot of set up time and planning into each shot

5. Seemless transitions between segements.

now for those of you who actually scrolled to this spot and took the time to read this.. now know that i didnt bash LSS or hate it.. its a great movie.. but TBC is still in a league of its own and Kris needs to make another solo project next year.

I'm going to have to say that long story short is a pretty damn good movie. I'm happy just to have it in my hands and watch it all the time but that goes for skimatic too though.

my opinion is that LSS owns TBC. The music = no comparison. and idk the vibe to TBC doesnt get me pumped to ski. LSS is by far my favorite movie of the year.

High Five........

No slo mo is what makes LSS so raw and cool. A pity there is not much big mountain but you can always just buy an MSP or PBP film as well for that.

i still don't understand the TBC hype...maybe it's just me, but i'd rather see a movie with few riders all with full segments, rather than a clusterfuck of 3 shot segments mixed in with a few half segments. i enjoyed the LSS shared segments because the riders they put together worked so well, i mean the Travis Redd Steele Spence segment? so good. and maybe people would say it's "repetitive", but i gotta say i enjoy seeing what different people did on features and how their different styles are during their session together.

but i guess that's just my opinion...

so true. it's interessting to watch how different skiers perform on different rails or kickers. Especially interesting I found the rail colby west tried for a 107 times. incredible. and he almost got it on his first try. And travis got it on one of his first tries, too.

you're implicitly making the arguement that both movies had the same quality level of riders. vanular being an outlier (and in TBC), level 1 just doesn't have the same quality, except maybe for hitting urban, ergo why l1 focues so much on it.

you can argue "they don't have the same oppurtunites" as the riders in tbc, and thats true as well, but the quality level simply is not the same. this is not meant to inslut l1 riders, tbc hat the sbsolute top, and l1 is slightly below.

that being said pbp has access to better quality riders, but i enjoy l1 movies more.

the essential of a sick movie includes

-riders

-location

-editing (flow, creativity etc.)

-cinematography

-music

l1 lacks the riders, location, and argueably the music.

tbc soundtrack really grows on you, the actual content (europopy/techno) is a little wierd at first, but the way the tracks flow into one another (i'm pretty sure ostness never uses the whole track of the songs, but the best large percetentage), and how they mirror the spirit/feeling of the snots is bar none.

tbc (to be continued)

i didn't really understand the point of your response at all, except for that level 1's riders aren't as good as TBC's? well that could be argued i guess, but once again, most of these riders have a 3 shot segment, i mean the only person that has his own segment is Tanner! well you can take your movie of the biggest riders with only a few shots, but i'll just watch the movie that actually gives the riders a chance to show off everything they got in full segments.

Wasnt as good as up.1.2.1.

that is one of the best ski movies ever, it gets me so pumped. Pfffbt on larger budgeted ski movies.

i'm not hating on it just supporting tbc. are you saying the booters in lss were equal to those in tbc? because 75% of the booters in tbc were out of control.
