Heh...resident lotr fan...good to have another 1. Yeah, I'm a little more strict than u with the movies' problems, I agree on Faramir, but in the 2nd one alone, they did the following things which annoyed me:
-Made Theoden look wrong to go to Helm's Deep.
In a bunch of scenes afterwards Gandalf and Aragorn are going on about how this is a bad idea, suggesting that Theoden doesn't know what he's doing. Totally messed up Theoden for me in the movie.
-Elves showing up at Helm's Deep
I like watching elves fight too, but 200 elves in a fortress against 10,000 orcs is practically a fair fight by themselves! In the Silmarillion the Elves slaughter the Orcs from the minute they're created, even when hugely outnumbered.
-Why were they in Osgiliath?
Sure, let's just take a major detour for no reason. This is Peter Jackson saying 'I could've told it better than Tolkein'.
-Aragorn's supposed death
Ciffhangers, cliffhangers. Tolkein had enough of them with Gandalf's rebirth, PJ has to throw in a bunch of other ones; Aragorn falling off the cliff, and Arwen supposedly going to the grey havens. I think this sort of thing cheapens the story.
Those are a few of the big ones...there were a couple more, and dozens of minor things that didn't really bother me. remember I'm not saying I didn't like the movie, hell I own it and I'm buying the collector's ed., but they could've not done some of this stuff and it would've been better. By the way Gollum was perfect.
One more thing, about Arwen: I'll never forgive Liv Tyler for the line 'If you want him, come and claim him'. Almost threw up right there...and the close up at the same time...o god im gagging. I won't get into the first movie's screw ups which were fewer in number. Save that for later.
